RCMB: Ask a REAL Wolverine Anything about Michigan
October 27th, 2016 at 1:03 AM ^
doesn't fucking matter, his point still stands. The largest alumni base is stil under 1m living people..you aren't on national tv if that is all your viewership. Nike is not paying you, no network money.. UM would have roughly the benefits a D2 school does. You sure as hell don't have their money for Harbaugh without the non alumns. Without the non alumns this website doesn't generate enough traffic for Brian to have the staff he does.

a-holes that are the first to be so wrapped up in their identity as an M grad that they attempt to denigrate fellow fans for no other reason than to puff themselves up.
October 26th, 2016 at 12:41 PM ^
Crazy that we're arguing who has the right to call themselves Michigan fans during HATE WEEK. I understand that a Michigan degree means a lot, and alums have a deep sense of pride for their university. I don't understand why they would look down on others who support the university as well. The whole "you're not a true fan if you didn't attend Michigan" argument is dumb, unless those using that argument have never rooted for a team outside of the city limits in which they reside. Since you can't be a real fan if you've never even lived in that city/state.
October 26th, 2016 at 1:22 PM ^
Show me where anyone has said "you're not a true fan if you didn't go to Michigan."
October 26th, 2016 at 3:37 PM ^
but some jackass was ranting about deep, meaningful connections that basically boil down to how some people are on high horses, & how some other rat bastards have to dig ditches just so they can eat. Losers!

I think you pulled off a quintuple negative in that third sentence. I couldn't tell ya exactly what you meant but i support the sentiment.
October 25th, 2016 at 7:08 PM ^
I thought it was hilarious that they would try to take a swipe at mgoblog when they often complain about their mods not banning people during game threads for being generally terrible people. They throw around a lot of personal insults and a shocking amount of rape references.

would a true Michigan Man snort?
I vote yes.

Fragmented sentences are bad.
(Actually I have no idea what I'm talking about. I am an engineer, and have no idea what if a fragmented sentence is even a thing, or if this is one and what a preposition is, and how I keep ending sentences on them.)

With a lot of random punctuation marks scattered around.
Well done!

Dizzo is a member of Wolverine 247 and posts on the board their quite a bit. It says he has been around 65 months, so I would figure he is a Michigan fan. Just about all of us would have different answers to selected questions so it doesn't seem to do any good to postulated on him not being much of a fan.
Thank you for taking the time to do this.
October 26th, 2016 at 10:18 AM ^
There, not their.
October 26th, 2016 at 12:52 PM ^
Also - I don't think it is odd for a M fan to believe that the Peppers Heisman talk is premature or overblown. He is the type of player that is capable of doing things that could win the award but has not yet done enough (IMO) to be seriously considered.
He is a great story for the media to break up the monotony of QB/RB in Heisman discussions and is the best (or best suited) player on the #2 team in the country, which is why he is getting so much run. With a few splashy plays against OSU, Iowa etc. he could easily make the ceremony in NY. There are not any clear finalists outside of Fournette and the two QBs but Pep would have to win the OSU game single-handed to have any real shot at the award IMO.

But we can just say 'Harbaugh' and everyone knows exactly who it is, what he coaches and where.

It serves as a perpetual reminder to me that J. Ira and Nicki Harris are probably not the sort of people I would like. One bit.
They paid good money to come off seeming like self-impressed pinheads. Well done, J. Ira and Nicki Harris. Well done.
October 26th, 2016 at 11:45 AM ^
Completely misplaced scorn...
I would think the person responsible for this is Brandon. He made the title of head coach a sponsorship opportunity. There's only so many things on campus which can be named... and his revenue streams must keep flowing.
By the way, using your logic, is Ross a self-impressed pinhead too? Perhaps, but he did give $300MM to the University and if you, I, or anyone else had that kind of scratch and were feeling generous toward the institution we all love, we wouldn't balk for a second at having our name on the wall
October 26th, 2016 at 11:54 AM ^
likely, it was their well-intentioned children who endowed the coach's position with the unfortunate moniker as a tribute to their parents.
I like to think of J. Ira Harris as Eugene Levy's character in the American Pie movies.
EDIT: Yeah, this is total bullshit. I just googled J. Ira Harris, it looks like he got Brandoned into doing this.
October 26th, 2016 at 12:52 PM ^
J. Ira and Nicki Harris also have their name slapped on the Hosteling International hostel in downtown Chicago. So apparently it's not just a Brandon thing with them.

so that J. Ira Harris is the "James Joseph and Sarah Harbaugh Family Football Benefactor."
October 25th, 2016 at 9:36 PM ^
I am also a premium member at 247 and Dizzo is indeed a real Michigan fan who is pretty active on our board. A member of RCMB named SpartanRocky, who is one of the few levelheaded folks at RCMB (and, as you can imagine, gets killed for it), came on the Wolverine247 board to politely answer our questions prior to the game. Dizzo attempted to return the favor by doing a similar feature for them. It went as you'd expect. Just a little background for you guys.
October 26th, 2016 at 10:34 AM ^
I noticed that as well, I thought it was a chance to exchange some real info or insight...not so much.
October 25th, 2016 at 9:41 PM ^
So if we're the board that critiques grammar, can we tear apart these stupid questions the MSU folk asked?
October 25th, 2016 at 9:48 PM ^
It should also be clarified that the General Studies major is not just a liberal arts degree without the major--it's a liberal arts degree without the LS&A language requirement. That's the reason a lot of students, particularly (but not just) athletes, go for that option.
Athletes have surprisingly small windows to take classes, particularly during their respective seasons. General Studies, for all its faults, frees them up from having to take classes that eat up TONS of class time during a good chunk of the week.
Back in the 90s, there was that oft-quoted tale that athletes that did need to take a language were the ones filling up the Ojibway courses...
October 26th, 2016 at 10:09 PM ^
Bottom line to me is that it's definitely not worse that many of your standard LSA degrees.

Sure it's a real program. Never said it wasn't. But at the same time, it seems the majority of the time it's used to "create a degree program" for athletes, or for people who are stuck in between majors or requirements and need to cobble something together to graduate, or for people who don't want to take a language. No one comes to Michigan because they're itching to major in General Studies.

+1. For instance, I don't know any UM grads who would answer, "Did you go to Michigan?" with their graduation year and major.
Sincerely,
LBSS, Political Science '08.
October 26th, 2016 at 4:47 AM ^
Yeah, that was a bizarre claim. I don't know of anyone who runs around stating their bonafides like Name, Rank, Serial Number.
I only rarely mention that I did my undergrad at UM since my professional degree (at a different university) is much more relevant to my career.
~
I read Dizzo's thread in realish time and thought it was fine. Not sure why Gameboy has a bone to pick here
October 26th, 2016 at 10:18 AM ^
But I disagree with you on one point. My professional degree is more relevant to my career. But, when people ask me where I went to school, I always say Michigan. And if they really want to know where I went to grad school, I'll tell them.
Go Blue.
October 26th, 2016 at 11:27 AM ^
Ditto... did my MS at CU but don't have an iota of loyalty there. It wasn't even a question to have any rooting interest for the Buffs earlier this year. I tell people I went to Michigan.
October 26th, 2016 at 1:10 PM ^
Maybe it's a recency thing. As decades pass my identity is much less tied to UM than it once was.
When people ask me where I went to school, it is almost always code for "where did you get your doctrate", and prelude to by what degrees we are separated. No one would particularly care that I got my undergrad 25 years previously at UM.

Dizzy diagnosed the mgoblog community correctly. I approve of good MgoGrammar but there are some pretty damn nitpicky and smug comments and threads. This thread proves him right.
