What Would the PSU and Wisconsin Players Say Comparing UM to OSU?

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

It occured to me that it would be incredibly instructive to hear what the PSU and Wisconsin players had to say about what they thought of the two teams, of course referring to ourselves and ohio.  I would love to hear their candid thoughts about things like offensive and defensive game plans, team speed, hitting, special teams, etc.   Anyone have a pipeline into those parts of the social media world that might shed some light on those thoughts?

Great day yesterday.    Whose going to EL?   Ticket prices must have fallen through the floor last night.

If I were a wisky fan I'd also say my team should've won that game. OSU got away with holding virtually every single play on offense and they got called for it maybe once. That's one of my biggest fears playing OSU, it's tough to beat them at the line if the refs aren't calling the obvious holds.

They would say that Michigan is a complete, dominant team while Ohio State = Barrett.

If you can take away Barrett (or make him take away himself), you will win.  The rest of Ohio State is good, but not phenomenal.

If anything happens to Barrett or his head goes south, they are toast.

My wet blanket moment and then I'll go back to celebrating their loss.

Both Wisconsin and PSU had bye weeks before playing OSU at home in a night game...in back to back weeks. You had to figure they would both play much better. Still picked OSU to win both, but I'm glad they lost last night...but still fuck Penn State. God, I'm all over the place.

Bye weeks and night games don't make up a 42 point differential to PSU. OSU has glaring holes on the o-line, QB play is spotty, and the play calling on the offensive side is atrocious. I believe that they generated negative total yards in the third quarter. I'm not guaranteeing a win, but we are a far superior team at this juncture.

Bye week helped. Announcers thought OSU would make adjustments against PSU like they did against Wisconsin, but PSU played tough.  I've been to 7 of the 14 stadiums in the B1G and I think the white out is the hardest place to play.  The crowd is equal to the UTL or Braylonfest at Michigan.  They are that into it the whole time.  I can see OSU's young players getting rattled.

Michigan hasn't played on the road yet this year.  (Rutgers doesn't count.)  EL will be a test, but  MSU is such a tire fire and their fans have already jumped ship, so it won't count either.  We'll really only have Iowa as a solid road test before going into the horseshoe which is probably the second or third hardest stadium to play in for a visiting team.

I've said it before - if OSU's offense consists of Barrett getting his yards on scrambles and broken plays, I'm okay with that.  That's no way to win a 4-quarter game.  I really think that Brown needs to sell out to stop the running game while watching the underneath, quick hitting passes.  Keep the short stuff and hand-offs under control, and you've contained OSU.  Their WRs won't beat Lewis and Stribling very often.  And I'll play the numbers game that Barrett won't hit them when (if) they do...

Looking ahead, I see a repeat with Wisconsin in the B1G Championship game.  That won't be any easier...

We must beat both msu and osu's ass this year. I'm tired of their shit. OSU fans already saying, "it's okay, we'll just curb stop little Michigan at the end of the year anyways." Screw them, let's start by kicking states ass next week!

Hard to say really....OSU seems to fall apart with bad weather. First MSU last year and now PSU this year. I hope it's freezing rain in Ohio when we play them.

Better weather and I think they roll PSU. Hard to draw too many conclusions from last night.

What's notable to me
Is that like so many other coaches, as Urbz lost his top assistants he's lost key developers of their talent. Happened to Stoops, Urbz at FL, Bowden, Dantonio. Feeling pretty lucky we have Harbaugh. He just goes out and gets himself a Don Brown.

OSU was willing to put Barrett in more harm's way (i.e. running Qback carries) against Wisc.  Against this team he seemed to be a lot more in "preservation mode".

That doesn't specifically address the content of this thread though.

...was interviewed on BTN last week after he went off on Maryland, and was asked about his performance and the team's improving performance. His first comment was, "We'll, we played a REALLY good Michigan team a few weeks ago and have improved since then."

Both are spread-to-run offenses that utilize the QB as a runner to gain a numerical advantage over defenses. But the similarities pretty much stop there. Rich Rod's offense is based on outside zone; he recruits lighter, more athletic OL who can step around defenders and reach block them. He tries to outflank defenses and attack the edges with speed. Meyer's offense is based on inside (or "tight") zone, and thus relies on more physical OL and double-teams to open running lanes. Both schemes require a dual-threat QB but otherwise the personnel you'd want for RR's scheme (which emphasizes speed) is pretty different from what you'd want for Meyer's (which emphasizes power).
