Week 8: Best thing you saw...

Submitted by mi93 on

Well...

I LOVE SPORTSBALL!

More pretenders eliminated this week.  Fleck's Broncos keep rolling.  Big win for the fighting Durkins.

So, if you'd asked me at 7pm, I would have said Darboh's catch in traffic, and the throw into traffic by Speight.  Or the INT by Thomas.  Or being incredibly focused in a should-win game the week before a must-win rivalry game.  Probably the latter.

Mike Legg's Score-O goal from Friday (saw it today) is also a legit contestant this week.

A half hour ago, I would have said either Leonard Fournette (presently 254 yards on 12 carries through 3 quarters - 12 CARRIES) or the Cubs winning the pennant for the first time in 71 years (wasn't sure I'd ever see it happen and it deserves being the best thing).

But...there's a reason I didn't start typing this until zeros in Happy Valley.  It needed to be the best thing I saw before I could say I saw it.  Seeing a 20-point dog beat the #2 team was the best thing I saw.

As an added bonus, now we've seen how the Buckeye O can be slowed/stopped, we've seen how their D can be beat, and we've seen that special teams can be beat.  And we have Harbaugh and staff to exploit it all even more in November. Until then, win and advance.

What you got?

  • SMU 38, Houston 16

That's a hell of a day.

Did I miss anybody? Indiana State and Colorado Mines won, at least.

True enough--if you're interested in mining I can't think of a better place to get your engineering degree.

Until I put that list together I had no idea that's where Gregg Brandon wound up. (Brandon's the assistant that took over at BGSU after Urban left for Utah.)

Utah--I forgot Whittingham. So Urbz and his assistants were 1-8 on the day (not counting the lower divisions).

I've never seen OSU get so throttled by the college football Gods that throttle everyone else. A blocked punt, a blocked kick for a td, a missed PI call. That NEVER happens to OSU anymore. No fan base deserved that more than those douches

I spent all morning chugging coffee and teaching my son how to do a proper tune up on his new car. Spent all afternoon watching football with my brother in law (who was one of my best friends 20 years ago when we were dating sisters, who we ended up marrying, those ladies are good stock) and nephew. Spent all evening with wife and kids enjoying a brilliantly gorgeous Michigan fall day.

Gonna hop in the hot tub and finish these beers and drink my 3 fingers of scotch.

The best part was when my local ABC station switched away from a riveting OSU-PSU game to show the post-game celebration following the Cubs win that every other fucking local station was airing.  Who needs to see two storied football programs fight it out to regain or preserve prominence in a thrilling competition when local sportscasters can interview drunk fans out on the street.  So newsworthy!  Thanks, local ABC.  Fuckers.

Leading all of FBS with 6 first half shutouts this year. It amazed me so I went back through the games, and sure enough, except for the Colorado game, Michigan is out scoring opponents 178-0 before halftime this season.

4. Robert Porcher up close
3. Half of the Sklar Bros
2. One of the players gave my boys his game worn gloves.
1. Harbaugh's new Shawshank warden specs.

Seeing the little guy Larry who has battled through so much (I think they said he's had over 90 surgeries) getting introduced in the Big House. He was so excited, jumping around and flashing his M gloves! I can only imagine how special of a moment that was for him and his family!

I loved the Larry Larry Larry chants! Awesome moment.

Sparty commentary:

"This game is going to make 2014 Michigan-MSU look like a decent matchup.

I held out hope on this game longer than some. Rivalry games in college football are funny things. But seeing Maryland of all teams run for 250 on MSU was the last nail. Michigan is going to lay waste to MSU and the most damning indictment will be the Michigan twos and true freshman facefucking MSU's somewhat veteran starters once it's already 31-3.

I hope these seniors will be proud of the legacy they are going to leave this last month- non-competitive performances against Michigan and Ohio State and scuffling with Rutgers."
