Week 1: Best thing you saw...
While I watch a lot of games each week, I don't see it all and thought it'd be interesting to hear what was the one thing that you saw that reminded you that nothing beats college football.
Since it's first time effort I'll offer two:
1) Nebraska's missing man punt formation;
2) Texas players lifing Charlie Strong after beating ND in 2OT.
NOTE: This could be a fun weekly thing, but neg away if it's not an interesting item to post each week. Have a great week all.

Nothing feels greater except getting the next win the next week.

Exactly half after Ole Miss. TN and AR barely escaped as well.

Esss Eeee Seee went 7-7!
You didn't mention A&M, which won in OT (albeit to a ranked UCLA). With some bad luck they'd have been 4-10!
That doesn't even include FL's awful performance against UMass, Vandy and SC playing a game someone had to win, and several nail-biters, most against terrible teams.
Watching those good 'ol boys struggle was the non-Michigan highlight of my weekend.

Seeing ND get bitch slapped at the end of a game never gets old. I have never seen a team that loses more often on the last play or series than ND.

I feel a certain kinship with Texas fans. I have absolutely zero connection to their program, have never even been to Texas, but the last decade or so for them has been similar to ours in many ways. The Dave Brandon/Steve Patterson similarites are particularly striking. Very much looking forward to our trip to Austin in 2027(!).

David Beaty getting emotional after getting his first win at Kansas.
Also pleased to see all these new freshman QBs who don't look like freshman at all.

I thought Chryst was getting a little choked up post-game too.

Yeah, interesting call to go for 2 then even more interesting to call a play that could do exactly that... Give the opponent a chance to return it.
Some of you may not know, but Claeys did the exact same thing against IL last year and they got the conversion to go up 9. He was praised for it then. Guess that's his norm. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When I watched I was thinking WTF? Then I heard his explination and it was actually interesting. His degree is in math so he is big into odds and percentages. He said, if you score a TD to go up seven late, it is better to go for two and make it a two score game because the most likely scenario is that you win or go to OT. The alternative is to go up 8 where the same result applies, but the likelyhood the other team converts a two point conversion is higher than a team scoring twice. So by the numbers, he is actually playing the better bet to win. Most coaches will not move to this philosophy.

Yep. I know it makes mathematical sense. But in this situation, with a team who has nothing to lose, if they're down 7, they score a TD, they're going for 2. If they get it, you lose, if they don't you win. If you kick the extra point, worst you do is go to OT. HOWEVER, in normal situations, the team would kick the EP to tie and go to OT. Don't think that would have been the case here. But no one knows as it never came to be.

Are we complaining about how enormous that hole is?

That was a giant hole, but it closed quickly. It wouldn't have been such a big hole if Evans hadn't run through it so fast.

It's a great solution by Texas to the problem spread teams often have in the red zone. Rich Rod could have really used this.

Harbaugh only plays those that have earned playing time, and it's not just cliche coach speak with him. You work, you're a good teammate and add value in practice...you earn the right to play. Awesome.

September 6th, 2016 at 8:15 AM ^
109 yards, 2 feet, and 11 and a half inches. (And probably a touch farther than that - you'd need a precise micrometer to measure how far back he was as he pushed off after his catch.)
Anyway, a fantastic play on a weekend with a lot of great football. Putting a fork in Hawai'i early certainly made watching the rest of the weekend more relaxing.
