Fabricating on an international stage. Not good. Say bye, bye for life to your reputations swimmers.

Backs up many views that too many " amateurs" are pampered brats. Out all night partying? Wow, why are they there??

Really tarnishes USA team rep as well.

Four olympic swimmers go to a party and get wasted. On the way back in the cab, they get the cab to pull over so they can take a piss or blow chunks. The bathroom is locked (makes sense in Rio) and rather than get the key one genius decides to bust the door down. Security is called and the same aggressive drunk genius decides to fight the security guard and try to make a run for it. Security pulls a gun and gets them all to sit down and takes their wallets.

In this scenario - these guys were all blowed and could have thought they were being robbed, and recalled it that way.

The question I have is why did security / the gas station not report their side days ago and turn over the confiscated wallets and watch? Or the cabby? If they did, why wasn't it reported?

I'll buy The Hangover craziness - but there are still missing links in this story on the Brazilian side.

The moral of the story: Rio is a stupid place to go out and get f'ed up. Taking cabs and stopping at gas stations in Brazilian cities is a dumb thing to do.

In re the cabbie and the people at the gas station...who's to say that they haven't been talking to Brazilian authorities? Also, given what we think we know about Brazil's justice system, this could be a case where the cabbie in particular was afraid of what might happen to HIM for even being involved in any way/he may have more mistrust of the Brazilian government than any of us do, and maybe thought that just hiding out was/is the way to go. They obviously got to the gas station somehow, so I assume there was/is a cabbie out there with something to say. I also have sincere belief that the Brazilian government is going to coerce witnesses, do whatever they have to, to try to make Lochte and everyone look like liars. The Brazilians have dug in on this, and there's no way they're backing down...and, importantly, they have the power to shape the outcome and control the narrative, more or less.

Between all the he said, they said, she said, the douchebag said, the police said, local and non local reporters said, every character and bystander said this is a complete shit show. I find it interesting too with the posters who won't budge on their belief that the US swimmers did nothing wrong and are being set up by Brazilian authorities. And on the other side, the posters who believe everything the police are saying. If I knew how to put up a popcorn gif I would.

LOL who cares? Everybody already thought Lochte was a douche. The Rio Olympics are a mess and they've done a terrible job hosting.

Nobody looks good in this but, honestly, why people get so worked up about the Olympics, I'll never know

The video is out. This happened in broad daylight at a busy gas station. They damaged a bathroom door, paid for the same. Police were called. No gun to head. No robbery, unless payment for the damage counts. The only crime was the damage to the bathroom door, urinating in public and false police reports.

an ugly American tale of bad behavior gone bizarrely wrong but will soon be forgotten after getting the usual wash n' dry treatment through the end of the Olympics.

Let's put it this way, Lochte, who trained for the games in Charlotte, is beyond the reach of Brazilian authorities.

But  he has put his fellow swimmers  in jeopardy by his actions. Depending how this turns out, there will be lots of explaining to do by both sides.

Going platinum did nothing to improve Lochte's disposition in this case. He just looks the part of an entitled American on holiday who didn't realize the impact of his behavior on Rio current events. But he was smart enough to leave town before the authorities closed in.

Can someone explain why Lochte is headlining everything and if 3 other swimmers lied about it as well, that no one bats an eye at them? Seems like people only care that he lied and the three others are ok.

That's more of an issue of fame. Ryan Lochte, for better or worse, is fairly well-known, while the others, like most US Olympic athletes, are fairly anonymous. A story centered around Ryan Lochte will draw more attention than one just centered around "four US swimmers." Additionally, if we're being perfectly honest, it's also just loads of fun to laugh at Ryan Lochte.

Only two of the swimmers have actually made official statements to police. That's why they pulled those 2 off of the plane, they wanted their statements on record before they left. If they tell the truth I think they could be in the clear. Lotche and the other guy who have made statements already are in trouble, but only the other guy is still in Brazil. He wisely didn't show up for his flight. Hopefully he is hiking through the rainforest trying to cross the border. :-)

I had a resume come across my desk two years ago and the guy had worked for a friend of mine at a different firm.

I inquired about his resume and found out he was currently under investigation for armed robbery ...something like six Denver metro banks that he had apparently robbed while on his LUNCH BREAK while working for my friend.

And ..one of the banks was in my neighborhood!  All it took was a Google search and there he was - mugshot and all!!

Matt Lauer was for some reason adamant that Lochte surely couldn't have done such a thing. Another guy working the story (no idea who the heck it was) even suggested that there's no way Lochte could have come up with such an elaborately detailed story (which was a not-so-subtle dig at his intelligence level), and that the stories "weren't that different". They suggested Lochte was just exaggerating events. But then they talked about the changing versions of events and all i could think was What do you mean "they're not that different"???

Lochte is a dickhead and always has been.  From his 'grill' to hairdos and stupid stunts, is anyone really that surprised??

And while I empathize with the Brazilian people and understand why they'd be pissed, the levels of crime and corruption in Brazil are staggering.  The amount of embezzling and sweetheart deals for government officials and developers to the crooked politicians and cops ..

It's not that surprising that SOME are saying to just let it go.  You can only imagine what a full blown investigation might bring to light.  And FWIW, with friends that have been in Rio the whole time, there really is quite a bit of crime taking place that is not being reported and it is the IOC that is censoring the media on it.

Lol ...Lochte, what a DoucheCraftCarrier
