OT: US Swimmers removed from airplane by Brazilian authorities
Per USOC, USA swimmers Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were removed from their flight back to the US by Brazilian authorities this evening. Obviously limited information at this point and I know another thread addresses this issue but figured it would get buried. Will update the OP as more info comes out.

When you potentially commit a crime (evidence strongly suggests they lied about their accusations) in a foreign country, this is what happens. They especially aren't going to let it slide when it is done by a well known Olympian, during the Olympics, and being broadcast worldwide while they are desperately trying to show the world a positive image (including spending a shit load of money trying to protect said athletes).

False police reports are at most misdemeanors and are almost never prosecuted. This is an absurd overreach by the Brazilian authorities.

Lochte went on TV and lied, perhaps prompted by earler lies that caused the situation to go from a story told to a few friends and relatives to a worldwide media circus.

In addition, there seems to be considerable confusion regading the whereabouts of Jimmy Feigen, who according to the San Antonio Express-News is still in Brazil but the USOC will not confirm his location, Brazil or otherwise, if it is otherwise. The whole thing is incredibly weird and there are now a few people out there saying that this a botched attempt to get some action, if you will. No confirmation that I could see yet.

yet Ryan Lochte has found (manufactured) a way to escape from his shadow.
Not in a good way, however .......

The theory is they were doing something embarrassing. I.e. hookers and blow. And in their altered state made up the story as a cover.

Because when you start your phone call home with "Mom, my pants got stolen and I need you to cancel all my credit cards" things can go to hell in a hurry.

they are political appointees, frequently monied and corrupt. their 'judges' are more like a rogue prosecutor looking for fame and headlines. and whoever keeps saying our guy(s) lied, put up or shut up. i have worked the border, it is thunderdome down there and no different than brazil. have had friends robbed there. bad ju-ju.

worked the Mexican border so that means you know how everything works in Brazil...ok I don't need proof to know Lochte lied, it's obvious to most people. You would rather believe Brazil is arresting people without any evidence in some revenge conspiracy against American Olympians. "MERIICA!!

No one is deneying that Brazil has massive corruption problems. The point is, don't go about blatantly false accusations in corrupt foreign countries or you may have to deal with their corrupt courts.

Brazil is an embarrassment.
50K murders in 2014 and they are worried about their image being tainted by an armed robbery? Hmm, maybe try to solve a murder or two. Don't be naive about what is going in Brazil.

"a successful athlete and representative of The United States of America" What does that have to do with anything. Their stories were obvious bullshit to loads of people. If Brazil wants to run them through their legal system that is their perogative. People should know better then to go to foreign countries and stir up shit.

Not only without evidence, but without even the allegation of a crime. Not even in Brazil is it a crime to tell an untruth to some reporters. Way to go, Mr. 'Murica!

Thunderdome isn't nam, by the way. It has rules.
--Two men enter, one man leaves.
--Bust the deal, face the wheel.
--Management not responsible for items left unattended.
