I really hope that was the third team. I saw the guard in front of Onwenu pull the tackle blocks the guy on Onwenu left side the center blocks the RT T leaving Onwenu free to bang into the pulling guard and knock him down too easily as he gets a free shot at the RB. Nobody blocked him. There was film there that said something about him having a fun summer where he blocks player after player on one on ones. They were trying everything and anything to get around him to the tackling dummy behind him to no avail. Personally his (Onwenu) offensive foot work was just plain phenominal no one got by him he just stood them all up or pushed them into tomorrow. The clip I believe everyone is raving about was called my first solo tackle.

WTF kind of offensive play was that???
August 15th, 2016 at 9:57 AM ^
that clip. I hope that is not our 1st OL getting beat by a freshman OL man playing D that badly. If so they need a lot of work.
August 14th, 2016 at 1:25 PM ^
Happy for Onwenu. Who is that pulling OL guy who just crumples down? It was like he was nothing. It will be a long year for our running backs if that's what we can expect.

It's very clearly not first team. Probably not even the second. Looked like Shane was the QB and Boss was the mike

Lots of three's on the field.
This looks to be our 3rd string out there:
- QB #7 Shane Morris (Did NOT take a snap in the live session Friday)
- FB #37 Bobby Hendersen (walk-on)
- RB #27 Joe Hewlett (walk-on)
- RT #72 Stephen Spanellis
- RG #55 David Dawson
- C #68 Andrew Vastardis (walk-on)
- LG #75 Jon Runyan
- TE #84 Sean McKeon
- NT #55 Garret Miller (walk-on)
- DT #50 Mike Onwenu
- SDE #2 Carlo Kemp
- SAM #10 Josh Uche
- MIKE #1 Elysee Mbem-Bosse
August 14th, 2016 at 1:53 PM ^
Hard not to dissect every bit of it, and yeah what is Mbem-Bosse doing? Snap, sees someone releasing to block him from his left, stares that way and doesn't look back to the backfield at all. Was just reading TTBs review on him, given mgofish had predicted him as an early contributor. Said he was raw and didn't always read plays that well. Yep. But true freshman.
Bush is also 3rd team? And he gets blown out of the play.
But yeah Onwenu looks great on that play.

Bush wasn't in the video, the #10 in the video is Uche.
August 14th, 2016 at 2:27 PM ^
That makes more sense. I saw 3 #10's on mgoblue, didn't imagine there was a 4th

Looked like it was Dawson getting tossed aside, which is not a good sign for OL depth. Not sure how accurate this is, but below is a link to some notes from a recruits father that indicates that Onwenu is a straight up beast who should be a physical force for UM.

It's ONE play...even guys like Jake Long lose one once in awhile...
August 14th, 2016 at 3:07 PM ^
Yes it's only 1 play. But it's not a good sign when that one play you lose is to a true freshman in his first week of fall camp.

I really hope he still ends up at guard, but the coaches know best and will put him in a position to succeed.

I'm curretly enjoying the thought of Gary and Onwenu lined up side by side, wrecking offensive lines for the next few years.
August 14th, 2016 at 2:08 PM ^
I think this is good news if he sticks there. A couple of the guys coming in at DT (Paea and Hudson) supposedly have good upside at OL and it would be nice to have the luxury of playing those guys wherever they fit best, rather than having to put them at DT due to a lack of bodies.
August 14th, 2016 at 3:44 PM ^
the prospect of Onwenu switching to DT. We're going to need good players next year when much of the OL leaves. But if we could move someone else better suited for OL from the D-line, that would keep the depth chart from getting worse.

Goal line defense featuring Onwenu, Mone, Glasgow, and Gary?
August 14th, 2016 at 2:43 PM ^
Whilst cackling with knowing glee
August 14th, 2016 at 2:22 PM ^
That is going to be one beefy goal line defense.
August 14th, 2016 at 2:22 PM ^
On one side of the ball you get to be coached by Drevno, if that doesn't work out you´ll be coached by Mattison. Who´s got it better than this team´s big guys???
August 14th, 2016 at 2:42 PM ^
Which is better, Onwenu pulling as a guard and tossing a LB into the defender behind him, or Onwenu cratering the middle of the opponents OL and smothering the QB?
August 14th, 2016 at 2:45 PM ^
How many times have we seen pulling guards not find their intended target...give me a space eating NT every day of the week
