O'Korn or Speight: who ya got?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Stunned we haven't had this thread yet.

I say O'Korn. The mobility is what gives him the edge for me. Rudock had mobility last year, but O'Korn is even quicker.

Would it be out there to think that we could TRY a little read option stuff with Peppers at RB?

beats OSU and MSU so we can start talking about everything else!!!

Platoon until the B1G schedule starts....I would bet more money on O'Korn to start the B1G schedule.

I believe it hasn't been brought up yet due to Michigan hiring the Ultimate QB Whisperer, Jim Harbaugh.  He can improve whoever is given to him, so nobody is worried about who will be QB.

I think Harbaugh will have a preference for grad transfers over guys brought in by other coaches. I also can't see O'Korn or anyone else coming in for their 1 year unless as a starter. Said the same thing last year with Ruddock Having said that, whoever is the backup will be more capable than what i thought our options were a year ago. I figured if Morris is #2, Ruddock will win hands down and hope to god he doesn't get injured. This year, i am less certain who will be starter and also less concerned

i say speight... i think people are overlooking the fact that okorn is at michigan becuse he got benched for  playing  erratically.. i like how speight is cool in the pocket..all that running around is fun to watch but a quaterback does his best work in the pocket.plus i trust speight more than okorn.plus speight looks the part.

I still got O'Korn due to his mobility and experience. On Offense QB spot is my least concern more worried about the LT I really hope we don't have to move Cole back and start Kugler

Speight all the way, and I don't think it's as close as everyone says.

O'Korn has the mobility and overall upside but something tells me he's gonna be too prone to 'gunsling' it and try to make the big play instead of the safe play. I did think O'Korn would be the obvious choice given his starting experience but after the spring game I wasn't convinced he was who we thought he was.

That said, regardless who starts I think OSU is the only team we'll lose to.

It'd be absolutely heartbreaking but it's better than what we've seen in the recent past where we haven't even been competitive with them.

I don't think our offense is up to par with them yet. The D is gonna be lights out for sure but until we get an elite RB and a consistent 5 across the OL I just can't pick us over OSU, at least not in Columbus.

was extremely hot or cold.  He had some games at the beginning of the season with an 85% completion rate.  Then had some real klunkers.

In his last 5 games against better competition, he went 1-4 with 3 games at 45% and the other loss at 52%.

Coming out of high school he was the n° 38 ranked QB and a 3 star.

2 1/2 years later we'll see how much he has progressed.

In the spring game, it looked like he didn't have his timing down with his receivers and his feet looked better than his arm.

I was really impressed with Peter's touch/accuracy in HS, but he is probably a year away.

It all comes down to, "In Harbaugh, we Trust".

PS  I wonder how much Chesson's injury will impact his timing with the QB's.  It took Rudock more than a half season to get it down.

Right now I doubt Peters is even in the convo. Since there is depth, better to RS him.

O'Korn sure is a hit or miss. I agree 100% with that point. I guess my argument would be that do we know the other two aren't?

We've seen Shane in limited action (although never under Harbaugh). We've seen Speight again in very limited action. Neither blew me away with moxy. Check down specialists that were limited physically and seemed incapable at the time to make the big play.

There are a whole list of reasons that could be the case but at least we know what to expect from O'Korn. He takes risks. He's up and down. He takes chances. With a D as good as ours is pegged this would be the year to experiment if we so choose. Should have that ability given the quality of the D.

who ever Harbaugh picks as the starter.  I could see O'Korn, Speight, Morris and Peters could all play. But if O'korn or Speight can lock down the starting job they may handle most of the plays. Harbaugh will have all of his QBs ready to start. There will be no more Boo Boo excuses!

I honestly want to see all three (O'Korn, Speight and Morris) get some meaningful snaps throughout September, so that late in the season, no matter who the eventual starter is, we know that we have a reliable backup or two in there who can handle the pressure.

Don't want to have the whole season depending on the health of a single guy.

O'Korn for reasons I'm sure previously mentioned - he's more mobile. I still think that will be needed to a certain extent in our O.

I was a believer that Speight was going to be a very solid QB here. He had the height and seemed to have an okay (although limited) arm. To a certain extent he seemed to get the Shane treatment a bit. Seemingly minor development for a year or so there.

I would feel confident with either. Speight would likely take less risks but O'Korn will make the bigger plays. Edge - O'Korn.

I have no idea who it will be, but I'm pulling for Speight.  I still remember how hard he worked to help recruit his class, and I want to see him succeed on the field.
