OT: Best new music you have discovered in the last year
Judgement free zone here. Just curious what new music everyone here has been listening to, and what about that band do you enjoy.
The only new band ive had any real interest in has been Silversun Pickups. Mostly because i have always had a thing for rock bands that use alot of distortion to create an emotional layer to their music. They arent ground breaking artists or anything, just remind me of listening to older Smashing Pumpkins a little bit.
Now your turn, give me some of your personal new favorites. Hopefully we can all broaden our musical horizons a little bit.

Chance the Rapper
"Hamilton" soundtrack
Ditto on Hamilton soundtrack. Got tickets for Chicago in February, woohoo!
I must be the only person who saw Hamilton and wasn't completely blown away. It was great - but man, not as amazing as everybody told me it was going to be. I felt the same way about Book of Mormon too. Maybe I should've waited to see Hamilton a few mores days after breaking my arm - instead of less than 48 hours after leaving the hospital.
Com Truise is awesome and anyone who hasn't listened to him should.

Ha - the sound guy at the club I was at the other night was blasting some Com Truise after the show. I hadn't even heard his name since I saw him at SXSW a few years back. Good stuff to listen to, not the most exciting live artist.
Tegan and Sara, BORNS, The Naked and Famous, Radical Face, Hudson and Troop.
during the first album tour. Really good show. Reminded me of a softer NIN.
Royce Da 5'9"- Layers
from Em's first album but it seemed like he was always great with Em but his albums were never as good as I thought they could be. But this new one seems like he finally figured it out.

The White Buffalo
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
Houndmouth

Houndmouth is and will be just fine without Katie. I just saw them for the 10th time a week and a half ago and they were better than ever. I'm actually pretty excited to hear what they come out with next. They've been touring with some guest keyboard players and two fellas playing saxaphone, and it sounds amazing.
As for other "newish" bands:
The Districts
Dawes
J Roddy Walston & The Business
Deer Tick
Delta Spirit
Matthew Logan Vasquez (solo artist who is also the lead singer of Delta Spirit)
Rayland Baxter
Langhorne Slim
Oil Boom
The Black Cadillacs
Good to see Nathaniel getting all this pub lately - totally deserves it. Just saw the Strumbellas a few weeks back. I wasn't blown away like I heard I would be, but they were very enjoyable live. Great indie picks here.
Chance the Rapper has been a huge breath of Fresh Air for rap too

Flatbush Zombies is another group to look at if you're into the more lyricist type

I'm not real big on Gambino, really, not sure why. I do like Meek Mill, he has some pretty sick freestyle skills.

I've been listening to the most Spraynard album a ton lately.

Roadkill Ghost Choir
Portugal. The Man
I've listened to Silversun Pickups off and on for a couple years now, but their newest album has me playing them every day now.

Trumbone Shorty
St. Paul and the Broken Bones
Love Trombone Shorty. Like most other New Orleans musicians, he is proudly carrying on the NO music traditions. They are all such good ambassadors for the city.
ZZ Ward and Halsey. The older I get, the more I enjoy female vocalists.
Late 20s, but I like female vocals as well.
Been into AlunaGeorge, Wolf Alice, Banks, VERITE, Zella Day, Sinead Harnett to name a few.
I like Wolf Alice and really like Banks
Yeah, good call. Kaleo is really good stuff.
out here in October, right around the time the football team will be dominating on their way to an NCAA Championship.
They're one of my buds favorite bands, I like their music, really good, driving RnR style.
I like to listen to mostly acid jazz or chill music, I can't stand a lot of the formulaic written pop music you hear anymore, fucking boring ass music.
Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains. They do punk folk and have a really cool sound.
