Swim Lanes - The Final Episode 2016

Submitted by alum96 on

Last go around before we begin the 2017 swim lanes Wednesday evening.

Michigan got counter struck for Fuller, Hamilton was snake oiled away in the cover of darkness Indy Colts style.  I am assuming Onwenu is staying in the class and is just trying to build some buzz.

Based on crystall ballz incl our own Acian ballz it seems Murphy to USC and Simmons to Clemson.  Boss is up in air but as of this moment it seems like a toss up and other than a tentative ballz by Acian and a UM basketball writer none of the usuals want to put their ballz out for him to UM so I am not counting him in.  So do the 2 Cal guys split up after talking of being together for months on end?

This looks like the projected close:

25 Rashan Gary UM / Clemson
26 Victor Viramontes Silently
27 Lavert Hill UM / MSU
28 Quinn Nordin UM
29 Alaric Jackson Snake Oiled late
30 Devin Asiasi Left Coast v UM

This would eliminate any need for grayshirts as spot 31 would remain open and instead of going to another recruit would give everyone a scholarship.  Unless of course we flip Greg Little.

If any of the above in chart are misses maybe UM tries to find a lower rated guy from the state of Michigan to flip at last moment.  I don't see Harbaugh as a "bank a scholarship" type of guy.

This would still be a great close even as it puts immense emphasis on DT and OT in the 2017 class.  Get the #1 player in country, land 2 other top 125 players in Hill/Asiasi, get a developmental but good ceiling OT a year ahead of hopefully 2 very high level 2017 OTs, get a "Harbaugh player" in Vic, and get your local high ranked kicker.   Done and done.

My guess, and it's probably a poor one, is that the hiccup was Tagaloa wanting to stay west.  Theorizing that they originally both settled on Michigan, Boss backed away, and Asiasi still wanted to come.  Decoupling what seemed to be a real package deal was the hiccup.

these guys are the three that push this class from very good to great. Too many naysayers around here... I for one trust that Harbaugh can close. All will be known tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy the ride. It's not something to get worked up about, seriously.

If there is no silent commitment, Brandon C Justice is going suffer the same fate as Garrett Fishaw (MGoFish). Ann Arbor Torch & Pitchfork restocked last night and is ready to go.

People have speculated that it is Viramontes, and there really aren't any other candidates based on the info he dropped at the time unless it is someone completely off our radar.

I just hate when people hype stuff up unnecessarily the way these two have. Viramontes still hasn't committed yet, and if he somehow doesn't end up at Michigan, this is going to blow up in his face like MGoFish.

Questioning a strangers credibility and calling names on a message board. I have read this blog for years and never learned a thing from you. Please think these thing in your head from now on. Every post of yours wastes seconds of my life which turns to minutes etc. All time wasted. Do us a favor and do not post or at least try to add something other than disrepecting other posters k thanks. End rant

Odd, for I totally see Harbaugh bank a scholarship until spring, rather than take a player that won't cut it.  The late panic fill-in player like that OL Samsuelson was, when we missed on our options.

For then he can use it on a Grad Transfer.

Sam Webb recruiting round-up:

Clemson a real threat for Gary, lots of things on their side.  But no one he's talked to has been willing to say Clemson is going to be the pick.  No gut feel, but still Michigan.

Nothing he has heard on Onwenu would convince him he's going anywhere but Michigan.  "There would be a lot of people" very surprised if it was anything but Michigan.  That probably means he talked to Wilcher.  Never know how it can shake out (rememebr Weber... actually no don't), but still feels Michigan.

Hill is the same.  MSU is a real threat, PSU has even come back on.  But based on what he's heard he still feels it will be Michigan.

Rivals indicated that all the things that make Michigan the obvious choice (longtime leader, friends and former coach there) could actually be working against the maize and blue.  Their pick is still Michigan but it is far from a sure thing.

I would be SHOCKED if we don't end up with Gary tomorrow. Yuge disappointment if we don't get his signature. Hopefully we can lock up Big Zay Wilson and McCaffrey for 2017 in the next month or so as well, to keep the momentum rolling into 2017.

Totally agree. We've put so much effort into recruiting Gary and all signs have always pointed to Michigan. If one visit to Clemson changes his mind, then there's something seriously wrong with our recruiting. I read at TTB that Wilson is back at Michigan this weekend so I'm hoping that's enough to convince him to commit.

Should we really be saying that Michigan used Snake Oil when we snatch a recruit from another team?

Snake oil is an expression that originally referred to fraudulent health products or unproven medicine but has come to refer to any product with questionable or unverifiable quality or benefit.

The quality of the University of Michigan is well established.  If MSU steals a Michigan commit, then ok, snake oil makes sense.

Purdue coach Joe Tiller had spent more than a year wooing Roundtree, a perfect fit for his spread offense. Livid at the last-minute switch, he fired a verbal salvo that still has legs nearly three years later. “If we had an early-signing date, you wouldn’t have another outfit with a guy in a wizard hat selling snake oil get a guy at the last minute, but that’s what happened,” Tiller said.

But I agree that it kinda sounds like tricked and we do not need to trick anyone to come here. The program and it's history do that. Example would be imo you are at the checkout buying a new tshirt and all the sudden the guy at the register pulls out a Tommy Bahama and says here take this one instead same price. Are you snake oiled to take the Bahama or just smart and know it's quality is superior?

So allegedly Viramontes is undecided, and openly says he has no idea who he's going to pick. Some insiders still feel he's going to Cal. Now he could be just drumming up controversy, but if that's true then that pretty much rules him out as the silent.

It's very possible that there is no silent and Justice is either wrong or something has changed since he said that. It's also possible that Viramontes is the silent and just trying to make for an exciting announcement. It's also possible that he was never the silent and there's someone not on our radar who's going to commit.

Basically, we know nothing.
