Yeah, his speed checks out. So he has the size and athleticism you want at safety to go along with the brains and the bloodline. This is one one of those PWO who doesn't surprise you when he sees the field. Especially since we may have a need at the position.

...for being the first to mention that Tyler Cochran is the son of Brad Cochran, one of the greatest DB's of the Schembechler Era.   I had read the first 25-30 replies, didn't see if they were related to each other, and Googled his name to find out whether Brad was his dad   When I returned to post it I saw that BlueSky already did.  Thanks,  BlueSky---you the Man!

With PWOs, are these kids who are accepted to Michigan or does the PWO offer someone who probably wouldn't get (or are on the wait list for) admission into Michigan. If it's the latter, I can see why kids might take it academically over scholarship offers to lesser schools.

Thanks to you and the other poster above and below (waggle) for the answers. I think the PWO is a nice chance to give some kids a chance to attend Michigan or maybe incentivize them to come if they're already admitted. Getting a chance to be on the football team at Michigan seems like it would be a huge incentive to kids with talent who wouldn't otherwise get that opportunity.

This is correct - a PWO is not a player who needs to gain admission on his own. Like you said, they're typically not far off, and many of them get into Michigan on their own accord, but one of the benefits of taking a PWO spot is that it gets you guaranteed admission when you may not have otherwise earned it. So yeah, you take a 3.6 GPA kid who had a scholarship to CMU or GVSU, he has some academic incentive to accept the PWO walk on spot.

Say what you want. I think they are likely building a top notch practice squad with these pedigree/ high character kids at PWO. Of course some might be real players too. But you need these guys.

Great young man. This is one competitive dude with a ton of talent. Had the pleasure to help coach him at CYO level way back when. Look forward to seeing him on the squad. Congrats to Tyler and his family. Welcome and Go Blue!

Son of Brad who was a teammate of Harbaugh and Jokisch whose son also committed as a preffered walkon.  Dave Dever was another teammate and his son Bo and Tony Gant's son Allen were also teammates of JH.

I am very pleased to see all of these preferred walk-ons join the team. Hopefully some of them pan out, but either way, they are making a great decision to go to a fantastic school. This is clearly indicative that Harbaugh is building something special, and people want to be a part of the magic to come.
