Hoke a candidate for Oregon DC
January 7th, 2016 at 3:08 PM ^
So Helfrich should disqualify Hoke because of a comment he made five years ago?
January 7th, 2016 at 6:51 PM ^
...about a phase of the game he would have no responsibility for?
To be honest, I think it should be a plus. Oregon could use somebody on staff that comes from a different football philosophy. We've seen how that goes--when everybody on staff is thinking nothing but spread, how to run it, how to stop it, and then you get ripped to shreds by Tressel or Bielema.

I think that was Gene Keady's comb over talking.

Speaking of RR, Jeff Casteel (sp?) is now available.
January 7th, 2016 at 5:25 PM ^
Maybe Durkin can hire him as a consultant to learn how to run the 3-3-5 against OSU.
January 10th, 2016 at 1:13 AM ^
I do think Hoke can do a good job -- great, even -- in the right place, given a good fit & some confidence in him.
January 7th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
All the best...would hope all true UM fans would concur with that sentiment.
January 7th, 2016 at 11:45 AM ^
But, he's never been a DC at the collegiate level.
January 7th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
Doesn't that position require one to wear a headset?
January 7th, 2016 at 11:42 AM ^
January 7th, 2016 at 12:45 PM ^
you've posted 21 times, and I honestly think you should ease up on that pace a bit.

January 7th, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
He's never been a DC, correct?
January 7th, 2016 at 11:50 AM ^
Incorrect, his first stop was as a high school defensive coordinator
January 7th, 2016 at 12:02 PM ^
Oh, well then argument settled!
January 7th, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
Hoke only did a couple things well. First & foremeost was turning any large, bipedal human with a pulse into a competent defensive lineman.
January 7th, 2016 at 11:48 AM ^
recruit
January 7th, 2016 at 12:14 PM ^
Oregon always recruits well but never seemingly at the level of a national title contender. Per rivals:
2013: #22
2014: #26
2015: #17
2016: #18
Hoke might be able to sway enough CA and AZ kids to get Oregon into the top 10 - which I believe has been pretty standard amongst national champions lately
January 7th, 2016 at 1:00 PM ^
best wishes to the dude when he moved on and i really dont want to trash hoke but hes not the missing piece for oregon. hoke will not instantly elevate oregon to "the level of a national tltle contender" (though sure, hes a solid DL coach, recruiter, and nice guy).
and others have asked if hoke has coordinated in the past - never at this level. hoke unfortunately does not have the chops of a major D1 coordinator, just a fact
January 7th, 2016 at 11:38 AM ^
Good luck to him!
January 7th, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
lololol hiring a position coach with no coordinating experience and a strong history of delegation to be the coordinator at a high stakes program
Good luck, Ducks.

Damn autocorrect...

Smug much?
January 7th, 2016 at 5:05 PM ^
"Almost every coordinator starts as a position coach"
Sure - but that really isn't THAT relevant.
What percentage of top 25 level programs hire a former position coach who has never been a college DC as DC is the relevant statistic.
January 7th, 2016 at 1:09 PM ^
I don't think Oregon knows how to play defense! He'll do fine there.

This sounds like his agent pumping hot air. Oregon just had a major failure at the DC spot, and they're gonna go out and hire a guy who has never drawn up plays or schemed himself? Sure.

Because Dave Brandond did that all himself?

We all know who did all of the "scheming" on and off the field during Hoke's tenure...
January 7th, 2016 at 11:41 AM ^
I feel like this would be a much higher caliber landing place than many on this site were expecting for Hoke.
January 7th, 2016 at 11:42 AM ^
Which is why it's probably not true.
January 7th, 2016 at 11:41 AM ^
The tweet says assistant - is there more info that says DC?
January 7th, 2016 at 11:41 AM ^
That makes almost no sense. I could see him coaching the defensive line at a lot of places. I could also see him as a head coach at a lower-level school (where he could improve the culture a la San Diego State). Defensive coordinator at a high-profile school? Not really.
January 7th, 2016 at 11:42 AM ^
January 7th, 2016 at 11:50 AM ^
Would take attention off of his rolls.
January 7th, 2016 at 12:09 PM ^
Are you always a jerk?
January 7th, 2016 at 12:17 PM ^
It's why he's on his 10th account here
January 7th, 2016 at 12:36 PM ^
Why does Olaf still have an MGoAccount? Can we Bolivia him already so he can go back to jerking off strangers for bus fare and crack money?

Wonder how many days it will take him to resurface with a different account? Over/under line is 3.

What?
January 7th, 2016 at 2:35 PM ^
You are fucking pleasant, man. Keep up the good work, bro.

The same jokes come up every time Hoke is mentioned. "Hurr hurr he fat and he clap"
He also recruited basically the whole team we just saw go 10-3 and trained the D-line we so loved to watch wreck people this year. He also loved Michigan and tried his hardest. It didn't work out but let's not treat him like shit every time his name comes up
