Josh Newberg, who reported the original interest just tweeted that Pruitt is no longer considering Michigan and will not meet tomorrow due to "family ties in the south"

My impression from Sam Webb is that he'll be a DC at some point.

He's being strongly considered for the BYU head coaching job and was Harbaugh's first choice last year (over Durkin). Everyone talks about Pruitt being a great recruiter, but Anderson is no slouch either. He was named "National Recruiter of the Year" by Scout in 2012. Plus he's been recruiting with Stanford's academic restrictions, something Pruitt would have no clue about.
Anderson's work as a recruiter is amazing. The Stanford program has turned around in the record books without compromising the extreme importance they place on not only being the most academically stringent FBS team, but also leading the nation in graduation rate. Stanford football graduated 99 percent of its recruits. Anderson's efforts as recruiting coordinator have led to seven players named as 1st team All-Americans, and 30 players in the National Football League during his nine-year Stanford tenure. Stanford's recruiting classes have been ranked since 2008 at 16, 24, 23, 7, 57, 16, 25. They are currently ranked as having the 10th best class of 2016.
His recruiting prowess is so legendary there is even a 2014 Salt Lake Tribute article with the headline "Stanford's Lance Anderson a bane to Utah's in-state recruiting." The article details how the University of Utah doesn't like when they recruit against Lance Anderson. In particular, the recruits in the state of Utah because they will lose more than they win. In 2012, Scout named Lance Anderson "National Recruiter of the Year."
Furthermore, Anderson was subsequently appointed as the admissions liaison for the football team. A position that requires Anderson to work with the Stanford admissions office to provide help and understanding concerning the academic standards and needs of recruits. When it comes to academic excellence at Stanford, there is no compromise. Even if it means certain top recruits won't be able to qualify. This is the mission of Stanford University. Anderson has been tasked with upholding this mission and has done so with excellence. Since being named admissions liaison, Anderson and Stanford have been honored every season with the Academic Achievement Award from the American Football Coaches Association after posting a 100 percent graduation rate.

It's easier to have an elite defense when you're coaching at Alabama and Georgia. You also have to consider the conference. Style of play is more wide open in the Pac-12 than the SEC, teams like Oregon and Arizona are tougher to stop than Florida and Arkansas.

graduate some key defensive players? How much was the change in DCs and how much the graduation of star players?
December 10th, 2015 at 9:12 PM ^
you would see that he wanted someone who had at least been on the staff of an elite defense. Clearly Anderson has been. I never claimed he was the DC then

And it was coordinated by the current HC at vandy and not Lance Anderson.

Winning recruiting battles with a staff that can actually develop players is pretty important.

This is like the eventual Rhodes Scholar Myron Rolle choosing FSU over Michigan because of academics. Spectacular.

That's because this situation isn't remotely like Myron Rolle.
Michigan recruited Rolle for months, and there was extensive contact between the two parties. There wasn't even one meeting between Michigan and Pruitt, and even if there was, one meeting is hardly the same as recuiting an 18-year old for as long as we did Rolle.
Anybody who is truly disappointed because they thought there was a real chance Pruitt would come here was fooling themselves.
My money's still on Jackson, with Anderson as the next likely choice.

I hate when rumors sound like the inner dialog of the person involved.
"Hmm Michigan could be interesting..."
STOP THE PRESSES. PRUITT IS PLANNING A TRIP TO MICHIGAN
*5 seconds later*
"...nah, my family is all here. Hey cool, Dukes of Hazzard is on."
PRUITT NO LONGER INTERESTED IN MICHIGAN. HAS FAMILY. MORE AT 11

I kinda want to see Alabama go with someone else and all the other top jobs fill, leaving him to spend time with his family.

I was always skeptical that he would end up at Michigan, and insiders at his last 2 employers had some mixed reviews on him as a person despite the results on the field. There was that incident at the end of this year where supposedly UGA administration or Richt wanted him out. At FSU, there were rumors that he had off-the-field issues that led to him making a lateral move to UGA in 2014. May have been sour grapes, who knows.
This will be his 4th different school in 5 years though, and the last 3 are all going to be lateral moves. A little bit of a red flag especially considering the 3 previous employers (Alabama, FSU, & Georgia) all are without DCs right now, and it does not seem like any of them are trying that hard to get him back. Could be some gamesmanship between Pruitt and Georgia as he has no buyout and is owed $2.6 million over the next two years, but something just doesn't smell right here either way.

No Shannon. Sigh.
December 10th, 2015 at 8:03 PM ^
Not surprised that he didn't end up at Michigan, but I am surprised he hasn't taken a job somewhere else given the number of good DC jobs available right now. He is technically the associate HC and co-DC at Florida, but he is not the one calling the shots on defense. Hard to see how staying there will help him get back to another HC position. I would think the other DC, Geoff Collins, would be the hot name if Florida has a lot of success, but I guess we'll see. His position right now seems analogous to Luke Fickell at OSU except Shannon is actually in demand.
