Ironically, Houston's QB depth is leading the UM practice squad.

They aren't looking at guys like Herman that they could get for $4M/year. l bet they offer a bigger contract than any current CFB coach has.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:18 PM ^
I'd bet seriously good money that they end up with someone like Larry Fedora or Dan Mullen instead of any pie in the sky huge name candidate

Which means it is only a better time to fire if you know who your next coach is. Top candidates will most likely wait to see the field at this point so you lose a first actor advantage.

Special team meeting or special teams meeting?

All anti-Les Miles posts will be negged appropriately.
Christ I wish we would have hired him when Lloyd retired. I might not have this ulcer. Or be an alcoholic.

You would of quit drinking if we'd of hired Miles?
(repeated inappropriate use of "of" used for emphasis!)

But I might have switched to beer. Or something else a little weaker than pure grain alcohol and rain water.

I was reading a recruiting artilce where the people writing it were projecting something like five to six uncommitted five stars projecting to go to Georgia. I don't understand the appeal there at all. Why go to be a middle of the pack SEC East team.

One reason it's such a good job. The coaching uncertainty would be a bigger issue with out of state recruits. Local kids are likely to wait and see before eliminating UGA.
The best thing for Michigan is that Nauta wants to enroll early.

knows if it is just LSU though? Miles could be done there as well on his own initiative. He has been in the same division as Bama as a head coach going on 15 years. That has to get old after a while.
November 23rd, 2015 at 12:20 PM ^
Saban's been at Alabama since 07. So head to head against Nick for 9 seasons. But yes, point stands. Probably feels like 15 to Miles
November 23rd, 2015 at 9:27 PM ^
I'd give Miles the year, for sure. But I'd also be worried that next year you'd have whatever shitshow was going on at Texas to compete with

keep track of MAC or Sun Belt job openings, so I have no predictions on Hoke.
November 23rd, 2015 at 10:54 AM ^
13 openings (for now): Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami, Mizzou, North Texas, South Carolina, Syracuse, UCF, ULM, USC, Va. Tech
According to Brett McMurphy's twitter

will get a shot as HC somewhere this year will all of those openings (and presumably more to come)

If he wants it. Unless he's been incredibly stupid with his money, he's set for life financially. His dream job is in his past. I'm close in age to him (he's 57), and if I were in a position like his, I'd have a house on a lake, do a bit of consulting and media work part time, travel, and enjoy time with my wife and family. A stressful 60-80 hour / week job is not what I would be looking for.

I'll never understand how the Alabamas and LSUs don't get a high calibre QB, like ever. The Lines are always outstanding, the RBs usually pretty good but the QB position lacks.

I think Alabama has done OK at the QB spot but LSU has clearly been terrible there for a while. AJ McCarron was good, and Sims and Coker have been decent though you'd think Alabama could do better given the highly rated recruits.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:29 AM ^
was a very efficient qb on the championship team.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
recruits to a system where QBs are game managers. Saban does not trust 1 player to determine the outcome of games, hence he builds his teams around great lines and power running backs.
I think elite QBs see this and are probably more turned on about playing in a pass happy spread or pro-style west coast offense that actually throws the ball. I think Saban has tried to ramp it up a bit on offense with the Kiffen hire and opening things some, but he is simply too much of a control freak to let go and rely on 1 guy (a 20 year old kid) to control a great deal of his team's fate. His strategy obviously seems to be working for him, albeit Alabama probably won't become Quarterback U anytime in the the near future. That is of course reserved for UM under Harbaugh.

Maybe Les Miles is sick of it and wants out. Sometimes you just need a change.

LSU fans are getting greedy. I know many fan bases that will pull hard to land Miles if he wants to continue coaching.

Also this brilliant piece from SBNation
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:11 AM ^
Miles' teams don't win like Nick Saban's do, but that goes for just about everybody outside of Alabama. They're more fun, and so is Miles himself. Please don't deprive everyone of a head coach who explains out of nowhere that he roots with all his power for Costa Rica's soccer team, LSU.
It's worth keeping Miles for reasons like this alone, never mind the record for a moment. If nothing else, you can walk away from the pressers and interviews entertained and even knowing things you might ot have wanted to know.

anyone that thinks otherwise is a fucking idiot. Les sure as shit would have won more than 3 games in 08. In fact, he wouldn't have had a losing season. Ever. And we'd have at least one more NC by now.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:41 AM ^
So it's clear that Michigan would have at LEAST one more NC by now, huh? I guess you think more highly of his coaching ability than most.
November 23rd, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
I'm sure he would have done better than RR or Hoke, but I really doubt he'd have won a national title. He's never lost fewer than two games in any regular season and that's with an absolutely loaded home recruiting base, easier admissions standards and the right to oversign.
Miles at Michigan probably would have delivered a lot of 9-3/8-4 years that would have left us not terribly happy but not ready to revolt, either.
November 23rd, 2015 at 12:20 PM ^
And he would have been able to recruit great players at Michigan, albeit different ones than at LSU.
All things being equal, he's a much better coach than the previous two we hired. I just don't understand people that wouldn't have preferred Les over the past 7 years of misery.
