Soooo many job openings. And we aren't even at the point where people wait until after the season to fire. I'm guessing you can throw Texas' name into the mess as they aren't beating Baylor and will at best finish 5-7.

This is some shit. The only problem is I don't think there are enough good coaches to fill these spots. I laugh at Georgia for keeping Richt and expecting different results every year but I think they're better off waiting a year now.

The Georgia situation is the one I am most interested in, just because of Nauta, Hardman, et al. I think the best case scenario is that Georgia keeps Richt, but in a way that makes it perfectly clear that the only reason they kept him is because better options weren't available. For instance, there could be some UGa official caught negotiating with some other coach--and then the other coach gets a huge pay raise at his current school the next day and stays put. If Georgia fires Richt and makes a good hire, a gloomy and uncertain situation turns into a new and exciting one.

They are only middle of the pack because they choke every year. Georgia recruits as well as anybody and Athens is a great college town--not a bullshit antebellum backwater like most SEC locations. Any good coach would have to like his chances there.

The man has his FIRST three game losing streak. I work with many LSU fans and they are delusional. Have absolutely no memory of what it was like pre-Saban. Hope they get rid of Les and suffer for years to come.

LSU getting rid of Miles in this market would be the dumbest move ever. They would be competing for candidates with at least Miami, USC, Missouri, and Virginia Tech. The LSU job would arguably be the best opening of all, but is Miles really that bad that you wouldn't want to give him one more year and reevaluate when the jobs-to-candidates ratio might be a little more favorable to employers?

If he wants it.  Unless he's been incredibly stupid with his money, he's set for life financially. His dream job is in his past.  I'm close in age to him (he's 57), and if I were in a position like his, I'd have a house on a lake, do a bit of consulting and media work part time, travel, and enjoy time with my wife and family. A stressful 60-80 hour / week job is not what I would be looking for.

I'll never understand how the Alabamas and LSUs don't get a high calibre QB, like ever.  The Lines are always outstanding, the RBs usually pretty good but the QB position lacks.

recruits to a system where QBs are game managers.  Saban does not trust 1 player to determine the outcome of games, hence he builds his teams around great lines and power running backs.

I think elite QBs see this and are probably more turned on about playing in a pass happy spread or pro-style west coast offense that actually throws the ball.  I think Saban has tried to ramp it up a bit on offense with the Kiffen hire and opening things some, but he is simply too much of a control freak to let go and rely on 1 guy (a 20 year old kid) to control a great deal of his team's fate. His strategy obviously seems to be working for him, albeit Alabama probably won't become Quarterback U anytime in the the near future. That is of course reserved for UM under Harbaugh.

Miles' teams don't win like Nick Saban's do, but that goes for just about everybody outside of Alabama. They're more fun, and so is Miles himself. Please don't deprive everyone of a head coach who explains out of nowhere that he roots with all his power for Costa Rica's soccer team, LSU.

It's worth keeping Miles for reasons like this alone, never mind the record for a moment. If nothing else, you can walk away from the pressers and interviews entertained and even knowing things you might ot have wanted to know.

I'm sure he would have done better than RR or Hoke, but I really doubt he'd have won a national title.  He's never lost fewer than two games in any regular season and that's with an absolutely loaded home recruiting base, easier admissions standards and the right to oversign.

Miles at Michigan probably would have delivered a lot of 9-3/8-4 years that would have left us not terribly happy but not ready to revolt, either.
