I have a sneaking suspicion that this is nothing - the moment, if it should happen yet this season, that we find our way into the teens, I have a feeling that it might take the better part of an hour to clean up redundant threads regarding the AP Poll. That might be the case with the Coaches Poll as well, if it happens on that one as well.

After what Utah did to Oregon, am I the only one thinking we are at least a pick 'em or even slight favorite if we played Sparty Saturday?

If we take care of Maryland and Northwestern and MSU continues to look overrated, maybe. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Highest I saw Michigan ranked on any ballot was No. 11

I think we need to give respect where respect is due. MSU is a great team with, while dick, a great coach. They steadily improve over the course of the year and are going to be a great test for us. They deserve their ranking

...my friend, it pains me to say this, but you have it all wrong, all mixed-up, completely upside down. Off to the re-education camp with you!

I just don't see the logic of MSU #2 vs Utah #10
Utah beat: Michigan (currently #22), Utah State, Fresno State, Oregon
MSU beat: Air Force, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Oregon
Utah 62-20 Oregon at Oregon
Oregon 28-31 MSU at MSU
Unless we are evaluating best team/talent vs best performance/records, there's no explanation of #2 vs #10 rankings in the AP poll this week.
If we go by the talent/name recognition logic, does that mean the 2011 Philadelphia eagles dream team should've been crowned superbowl champs?
MSU deserves to be ranked somewhere in the top 10-20 range.
Can certainly rise to #2 over the season if they keep winning.
But definitely not #2 four weeks into the season based on the games they've played, and their performances in those games.

No, just no. This is speaking as someone who went to the MSU-Oregon game and saw exactly what happened. Neither one of those teams looked like a Top 10 team and Oregon just showed that with their loss in that fashion to Utah. That game also showed how Utah is better than many expected as well, but MSU hasn't shown anything that they are a great team this year. They have underperfromed in almost every game this year and the only reason they're undefeated is that Oregon played just bad enough for them to lose. MSU played well enough to win if the other team made mistakes, but hasn't proven anythnig yet and likely won't until they play us.

Happy to be ranked #22, but annoyed as hell that we're behind Mississippi State.
When are people going to accept that beating Auburn isn't impressive?

I said in the Liveblog yesterday that I didn't think we would make it in. I'm happy to be wrong.
September 27th, 2015 at 2:34 PM ^
#22. Someone called it during the live game. MSU is not #2. OSU is not #1. Not based on what they have done so far. May be based on what they will do in the future. (However, M will have something to say about that...)
Wisconsin got pasted by AL. So, they shouldn't be above us. UTAH is a top 5 team. Both UTAH and UCLA beat their teams comfortably on the road. In the mean time, the #1 and #2 teams looked shaky for two weeks in a row at home.

Ole Miss beat the shit out of Bama in Tuscaloosa. To me that's the best team in the nation right now.
September 27th, 2015 at 2:54 PM ^
Maybe 'Bama is way over rated like Oregon was.

Do the AP voters actually watch football or do they just take last week's rankings were and then move people up or down based on whether they won or lost? CFP comittee would probably say:
#1 Ole Miss
#2 Utah
#3 UCLA
#4 Notre Dame
First two out:
#5 MSU
#6 LSU
Ohio is maybe #7 but they haven't played anyone good and they've looked shaky against some very mediocre teams.
September 27th, 2015 at 2:48 PM ^
Mostly they do the latter. Otherwise Michigan would be significantly higher
September 27th, 2015 at 2:52 PM ^
ass whoopin' of Maryland to avenge last year's bullshit.
Then after that shut down N'Western in a nice defensive battle and get ready to crush Sparty fans hopes of a CFP Season.
After that, we can take it one week at a time before we crush Buckeye hopes, that would probably put us in a good spot.

MSU comes to town ranked #1 after OSU continues to look sloppy. Harbaugh grinds out the upset, and Cook's Heisman campaign is derailed. He tosses three picks and is sacked three times. Harbaugh gives Dantonio "the handshake" and Dantonio is fuming throughout his entire post game presser about how disrespectful Harbaugh is, and that "this will never be over."
OSU rounds to form throughout the season, and comes to town ranked #1, just as Michigan is rounding to form as well. Michigan is ranked #8 after going undefeated up to that point in conference play. With MSU having lost to OSU the week before, they're fully out of the playoff picture. In a back and forth game, as it always tends to be, it ends with Peppers stonewalling Ezekiel Elliott on 4th down with less than a minute to go, in an epic goal line stand for the ages to preserve a 41-35 victory. Meyer and Harbaugh shake hands, and they both exchange looks with each other, and without saying anything, they both know "it's on." Columbus burns to the ground by Sunday morning.
Michigan takes down two #1 teams in one season, both of whom were their chief rivals. OSU is knocked out of the conference title game and, by proxy, the playoff picture. Ultimate catharsis is achieved, and Michigan cruises past a weak Western Division Champion in Wisconsin, and sneaks into the playoff at the #4 spot.
From there, it's anyone's guess. Long shot: absolutely. But it's one man's dream.
