Stickers are a sign of achievement and respect awarded within the team. Rankings are a sign of achievement and respect awarded by bloviating writers all over the nation and/or coaches (or their assistants) that have hardly even seen the team play. No contradiction in caring only about the former.
In the long run sure, national respect matters, but that will take care of itself. If we win out, we'll be in the playoff. Book it.

to break it to you, but in college football rankings matter. They don't determine outcomes but they matter, just ask TCU and Baylor. This team deserves to be ranked.
September 26th, 2015 at 5:47 PM ^
Not really in our case. IF (and that is a massive if) this team wins out, there is no way they don't make the playoffs. 12-1 with wins over #1 and #2 is an absolute lock.
September 26th, 2015 at 6:01 PM ^
just said rankings don't matter but only because if we win out we will have beaten the #1 and #2 ranked teams...
September 26th, 2015 at 6:20 PM ^
I'm saying we don't need to worry about building an impressive resume like TCU and Baylor might because of our strength of schedule.

Dare I say this, but brands matter. A Michigan team with Harbaugh has WAY more national cred than TCU or Baylor. Maybe in 5 years that won't be true, but it's true now.
September 26th, 2015 at 11:25 PM ^
In 5 years I suspect it will be more true.

by a committee they really don't. One only has to look at the basketball committee's seedings to see they trust their own judgment over the voters.

I would imagine 24-25. Until today we had no quality wins and a quality loss. Going up 31-0 and coasting vs a team that stood head to head with a top 10 team at their place last week is going to raise eyebrows.
Likewise, Boise State's demolishment of VA and West Virginia's of MD will have them moving into the to 25 - both had a good # of votes last week. BYU will fall out and I think Utah will do if Oregon wins by 2 TDs or so. TN might move into top 25 if they beat FL.
Frankly the schedule is looking easier by the week esp if 1st half rudock can stick around the program and not turn into 2nd half rudock. Minn and NW have good defenses but really bad offenses. Our defenses should hold both to mid teens so all the offense has to do is get to 20. MD and rutgers are awful. PSU is improving - Hack looks alive today finally and they have found a run game. So things are being restored to natural order.
MD on road and NW at home both very manageable and a 5-1 UM should be top 20. Then the next real test awaits.

but not higher than Utah unless they get absolutely throttled by Oregon.

RT @KyleBogie: Anae also asked if he agrees with Bronco Mendenhall that Michigan is the best team they've faced thus far: "Totally agree.""

As I was leaving the stadium I heard some BYU fans talking and they said that the teams they've played up until now were on a lower tier than Michigan. I was like, "Okay. Sure. I'll take it."

I heard B1G Live before the game talk about M getting ranked good for #1, #2 teams. However, I don't see us not ranked after this week. We are going to be ranked... How high. I don't know. If I take a guess, it will be 24.
