Kyle Flood has been suspended three games as Rutgers football coach and fined $50,000 following a university-led investigation into rules violations and amid a recent string of off-field transgressions involving players on his team.

Rutgers has so far dismissed 3 of their starting 4 DBs, including BOTH starting CBs as well as suspending the only player of any note on their team in Leonte Caroo.

If Penn St continues to not impress will James Franklin be let go? Will Schiano be courted by both Penn St (his reputed dream job) and Rutgers (return to GLORY!, i.e. 7-5 back to back years)? Ralph Friedgen is on the staff at Rutgers as the OC and could be a viable candidate-- if he wasn't already tied to Flood's coaching staff (think Tom Bradley at Penn St after Joe Pa's ouster).

I hope Michigan beats them, badly, every single time we play until they're kicked out of the conference.

Isn't there another school that could have given us the NY media market?  UConn?

Rutgers didn't give us the NY media market. The Big Ten network was already on Time Warner's big basic package (equivalent visibility there as on Chicago's cable providers) and was an option on Vios, the main NY fiber-optic carrier. None of that changed after Rutgers joined the conference. In addition, NY has a much bigger Michigan fan base than a Rutgers fan base. In Manhattan, you'll see Michigan caps, shirts, etc., on a daily basis, but very rarely will you encounter a Rutgers sports fan.

Simply put, the notion that the B1G gained any substantial NY media exposure by adding Rutgers is incorrect.

(1) He drove down to Princeton in order to meet with the professor, while making sure that he was wearing plain clothes (e.g., nothing that identified him with Rutgers and made it more likely people could identify him) for said meeting.

(2) People tried to give him the "stop sign" multiple times during the process.  Yet, he still plowed ahead, straight through the "stop signs."

(3) As another poster noted, he made sure to use his personal e-mail as opposed to his Rutgers' e-mail, to minimize the likelihood of him being caught.  (that didn't work)

Reckless and dumb.  IMO, he's VERY lucky he still has a job right now.

Why wouldn't Rutgers fire Flood and save the buyout money for when they fire him at the end of the season? They could use that saved money to hire a real coach.

How mixed everyone's opinions on football are at RU. I'm currently a student there, typing this from the library and I can tell you all that the student body's opinions on our football program are as diverse as the school itself.

Many complain that we have a football program at all; some complain about the program's expenditures, and others complain that the atheletes do not deserve to be here because football is the only reason they're here.

Many of the ones who do support the team and go to football games, know next to nothing about Big 10 football or college football itself. The majority attend the games just as an excuse to get hammered early in the morning, and they leave by the end of the 3rd quarter. Very few have the understanding of college football that we do.

Interacting with Rutgers fans quite a bit, one thing that is fascinating: there is a rather significant portion of RU fans who thinks their athletic peers are IVY AND PATRIOT LEAGUE schools.  Like Lafayette and Lehigh!

If you objectively look at Rutgers --- public research-intensive university, AAU school  --- RU's "peers" are schools like Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State, Michigan State, Virginia, et cetera.  Not private, elite schools like Lafayette, Lehigh and Princeton.

In one way, RU is a good fit for the B1G (peer school to many already-B1G schools).  In another way, inviting RU to the B1G is like inviting other-planet aliens.

"elite", yes, that wording was not exact and precise.  Princeton is elite, Lehigh & Lafayette are a tier below that.  The latter two are "safety schools" for kids who don't get into the Ivy Leagues.

But --- there are of course further tiers.  Penn State and Rutgers and Maryland are perfectly good schools and you can get a wonderful education at each of them, but they are also "safety schools" for those upper-middle class kids in PA, NJ and MD who get rejected by Lafayette and Lehigh and the like.

Anyway, my original point remains: Rutgers peers are not in the Patriot League.  They are in the B1G.

I remember thinking "Poor Kyle Flood" having to follow Jim Harbaugh at B1G Media Day. Hardly a soul stuck around to listen to him, having followed Jim out to the lobby. The facilitator kept asking "Any more questions for Coach Flood?" Crickets.

Most of his questions were about The Harbaugh anyway.

Leave it to Rutgers to keep inviting further PR fiascos upon itself. A head coach trying to tamper with student grades should probably be an offense worth firing for.

I'm betting Flood is gone after this year, and their AD, Hermann, may not be too far behind. That school, in terms of its athletics, has been a walking disgrace since it came to the conference, and they need someone who can go in and clean up that mess.

Must say after having endured the Dave Brandon clownshow last year it is a welcome change to sit back on the deck of the SS Harbaugh and watch the misfortunes of others
