What are you going to drink tonight?

Submitted by Hotel Putingrad on

Approaching the noon hour, just wondering what everyone's beverage of choice will be tonight to usher in the Harbaugh era? I'm generally a beer guy on game days but might have to kick it up a notch for tonight's special occasion.

Or should we abstain so as not to dull our senses?

What say you? Or should I say, what ales, you?

Any recommendations on what to drink and what not to drink with a cold? I heard whiskey is sometimes used as a cold remedy.

I used to try killing the cold with copious amounts of whiskey in college. Never worked...I only ever felt worse the next day because I was hungover, dehydrated and still sick.

Or maybe a Hot Toddy--hot tea, whiskey, lemon juice and honey. Sometimes I still do that.

Absolutely nothing until after the game is over. I want to have all my senses going at full speed to take this all in.

Afterwards,

If we win: Vodka shots/mixed drinks (#college)

If we lose and it's a hearbreaker: Red Wine, plus crying

If we lose and it's a blowout: Beer, plus lots of anger

You might go ahead and crack open that 2012 KBS. Someone pretty knowledgeable about aging these bourbon barrel beers once told me that 2-3 years is the max before it starts going bad.

I have one left from 2014, and six (count 'em!) still from 2015 which will be saved for the Ohio State game tailgating.

Short's Bellaire Brown, supplemented by Lagavulin in victory or defeat (but obviously victory).

I used to have Short's as one of the second-tier Michigan brewers. Boy, was I wrong.

Bud light bottles, Jameson/rocks

Bud light bottles because I'm a nervous drinker during Michigan games, and I can't take down 12 Dortmunders.  The Jameson serves 2 purposes- It celebrates victories and soothes assured defeats.

Jimmy's first win would be special though, may have to pour an Oban tonight.

I'll be at a bdubs in St Claire Shores tonight, so since that's the case I'll be drinking beer. I'll probably only do michigan brews, but depends on what they have on tap. I like my IPA's.

When i'm home, depending on how things go, I also have a bottle of 21 year old glenlivet as my backup.

Buffalo Trace and Snapple peach tea. I will definitely not be drinking "Blood of Christ"-a drink my buddy and I made up and dared each other to drink last weekend at Treetops.. It is a Jager bomb into a glass of Cabernet. Ugh. (I drank 4 of them). Do not recommend.

From my trip to Michigan in early August. I know they sell it here (Tampa), but something about it being from home made these cans worth saving for kick-off. After that's done, it's on to the homebrews. I have a kick ass Wee Heavy on tap. It will numb the senses at 13%.

which has been stocked up for the game.  Sierra Nevada Octoberfest seems like a good one.  I've got some Bell's Two Hearted and Stone Delicious IPA (which is delicious) if I want to go that route.  Allagash White for 4PM happy hour to get things started.

I live down in Lauderdale, been in a bit of a financial pickle lately, so I am going to buy a four back of busch light 16 ounce cans when I step off the Tri-Rail at 730pm.  Insurance Defense will do that to you.

I will probably break into one of the packs of Guinness pints (I hoard beer - my wife believes this to be a bad thing) in the basement fridge and go from there. I am pretty sure that I might be in no condition to do more than show up tomorrow at work regardless of the outcome of the game because I am that excited, but maybe I will call it a day after the two meetings I cannot get myself out of.
