Michigan dark secrets
The offseason can be a long and difficult time for football fans, but it is a time that generates some really interesting threads occasionally. In light of this, I pose this question to you all:
What are your deepest and darkest secrets relating to your Michigan fandom? Are you a convert from the other side? Do you have any regrettable stories from watching Michigan games? Do you have any dark secrets now?
I'll start: I love Michigan and cherished my undergraduate years there, but next year I start my PhD at...Ohio State.
Being with your team through the good and bad times is one thing. Watching a game that you know is hopeless at halftime is another. Everyone on here supported Michigan in all their games (even this year), but when you're as emotionally invested in a game as I (and I'm guessing many others on this board) are, it actually ruins your weekend to constantly watch Michigan lose.
Found the masochistic Lions fan (speaking as one).

Yes I do. My expectations are higher than yours.

I stayed for every game in which I had a choice, but I can't fault people for leaving some games. It's one thing if someone's just drunk and leaves early to keep partying or whatever, but there's no reason anyone needs to sit in the rain and watch UM get pounded by Iowa in 2004 or 05 or whenver it was in what was then the worst home loss in Michigan history.
I used to own a Notre Dame starter jacket, had tons of Notre Dame clothes, enjoyed the Notre Dame fight song, frequented South Bend on a regular basis, and have eaten dinner/hung out with multiple Notre Dame athletes (including football players). Worst of all, I never realized how disgusting I was even though I was a lifelong Ann Arbor resident and diehard Michigan fan.
I have an excuse though, my eldest sister played basketball for Notre Dame, so I was kinda brainwashed to like ND for 4 years.
I find the rest stops on the Ohio Turnpike to be far superior to the ones in Michigan. And I highly doubt I'm alone.
Perhaps, but you are much more likely to get a speeding ticket after leaving an Ohio rest stop than a Michigan rest stop. .
Agreed. I don't even need to see the sign for Michigan/Ohio to tell which state I'm in. I can just tell by the quality of the road. Love the state of Michigan with all my heart, but Ohio definitely has better roads.
To be fair, the rest stops are way nicer there because of the toll road nature of the turnpike. Does Michigan have toll roads? I lived in Detroit suburbs for 10+ years and never was on a toll road, maybe up north?
I hear Ohio has superior glory holes at their rest stops as well.
And Cinnabons!
That's what they're calling it now these days?!?!
I'm from Northern Michigan. No toll roads except the bridge.
No toll roads. Every few years there is talk of making I-75 a toll road but it never goes anywhere (no pun intended).
might be a good idea in Michigan. Privately funded roads are much better taken care of. (see I 80/90) It must have something to do with federal $$. But free is good, too, as long as you don't blow out a tire in a pot hole.
I went with my girlfriend and her parents. They wanted to leave early so I felt obligated to go with them since they got the tickets. I watched Brabbs kick the winning field goal on a tiny tv @ Brown Jug...
I left early from the Braylon game... you know, this one:

I was so disgusted with how we were playing I couldn't handle it anymore. The walk back to my apartment was probably the most bittersweet moment of my sports life. I could hear the damn stadium going nuts. Man, that was so dumb. Funny thing is, the guy who left with me is probably the biggest die hard I know.
And ya know, I have never left any sporting event (that I cared about) early since then.
I am 5 different users that are "legit". This allows me to log in to my other accounts and then upvote the "troll" acoount very quickly and aquire 100 pts.
This one will now be banned too. Seriously, you are pathetic and deranged. Get a fucking life.
It takes 7 seconds to block an account. How long does it take you to reach 100 points?
but BiSB's comment takes the cake. that was funny.
see a therapist.
You are really pulling one on the old MGoBlog community. Nothing quite like being an idiot and then telling everyone else about it. I'm sure your other "legit" accounts are full of amazing observations.
Also, smart move outing your pattern. It would be incredibly easy to do a quick query on the upvoting patterns of users and see which 4-5 accounts always upvote the guys who upvote the new accounts.
Like some others here, I couldn't miss a UM football game this year, but I didnt always want Michigan to win. I wanted all the ambiguity about the coaching position to clear away.
I was rooting for the Michigan football program rather than for an individual Michigan team.
I gave up my tix. Now I'm on the waiting list.
Sigh!
I love how the responses to a deleted post now look like over-the-top responses to my post.
whatever you do, don't mention Bucky the Badger.
When Michigan plays OSU I'll bring my OSU friend to the game. :/
As long as she looks as good as your avatar I am in
Hi Friend.
I am a Michigan fan.
Ditto... A good female friend of mine went to EL. Many a road trip to go see her and some friends she introduced me to. Much better scenery in EL (or even Ypsi) than A2.
That's not a dark secret. That's just good common sense!
I hate MSU more than Ohio St.
Did not used to be, but I agree now, The MSU hubris is unsettling. Used that word so any RCMB trolls will have to run to the dictionary.
I do too. At least tOSU has been there and done that and got the t-shirt. Moo U people are just fucking mouthy.
