Hello: Kingston Davis
Michgan just received a pledge from this 3 star RB from Alabama. 6'1" 225lb out of the class of 2016.
According to his high school coach, 2016 RB Kingston Davis (@_King_LD) has committed to Michigan.

I AM NOW COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN!! 〽️
for some in-depth analysis.
and that is a whale of a gif.
Here's my commitment post for Kingston Davis:

I think your post touched on this but to expand on it I think this is a recruit for the long game in the south and specifically the state of Alabama. You have to start somewhere and it won't be 5 stars. We have 2 mid level type recruits from Bama now (who happen to go to the same school). But 2-3 years down the road - with the camps also helping - you begin to build a bridge to higher level recruits. Still will get tough to pull them out of SEC country but it helps when you can show a path with earlier players - even if they are not going to be stars.
I share your concerns about the lack of speed. Good sized RBs have not been our issue. Our best RB in the last 15 years was Mike Hart who was small. (wasnt a burner either) but I am not that concerned with RB size as long as he is >200 when he is in college. The non fake 40 times and short area quickness is a lot more of a concern go forward, along with vision. These are things we lack outside of Drake right now. Isaac is obviously a mystery. Same goes for the WR position.
Thank you. We'll come again.
to the sea?
Funny,
But given we're trying to recruit the south this may not be the best historical comparison.........
They still hate that Sherman somethin' fierce down in them there parts
Give us Matt Falcon and we're all set at RB for the class.
I don't think he's a fullback. He doesn't have great long speed and I think a lot of people will get caught up with that. But he does have really good short area quickness and burst not to mention extremely good leg drive and power. Typical Harbaugh/Trevno RB. That's a good thing.
Reminds me of Joique Bell with the balance, low center of gravity and leg drive as well as the lack of elite athleticism.
Davis has specifically said that he does not want to play fullback in college. He sees himself as a tailback. If Michigan recruited him as a FB, I don't think he would have even visited.

And taking a look at his offer sheet, he has offers from Ole Miss and Miss St, I think it's safe to say he's better than his 3 star ranking.

He does have some similarities to Smith and Hidgon in terms of his skill set. Really lacks what you look for in breakaway speed, but good feet and pretty good vision. I think all three of those guys would be tempting to make FBs (Hidgon probably the least of the three; and Michigan just picked up a FB so Davis probably won't be either), and they still need more speed at the position.
I think Davis is kind of a high floor; you know his role, you know he'll at least be able to play football for you in some capacity (either at RB, FB, LB, DE, special teams in general) and provide a team need. But he'll have to really improve and maximize his talent to be a great all around RB. We'll see though, kids can do that sometimes. Bell probably had very similar highlights as a HS player, and now he's one of the best RBs in the NFL. By no means saying he'll be Bell, just don't completely count him out because of what he now shows on film.
Yes, though I guess you could use the analogy on either (though Joique isn't considered one of the best in the NFL).
Wish we had their O-Line coach the last 4 years!
Ya, Leveonish! Hate to say it!
Guess Harbaugh is really looking for a fullback.
...now a little BJ Askew.
Matt Falcon? A-Train.
Alabama crootin.
Congrats to Kingston. Go Blue.

only for the guys that come to Michigan. If they go anywhere else, a 3* is still a 3*.
I can get behind this logic
A 3-star that goes to Blue Mountain State is a 2-star.
He just committed to Michigan, so he'll likely be a 4 star within weeks.
We're?
I think it's faith in Harbaugh's ability to assess talent.
Similar to the faith we have in Beilein to judge talent.
And possibly for good reason. Here's Drevno last week:
"That’s what coach Harbaugh does so well. I’ve never been around a guy that’s better than him at evaluating talent. Outstanding. And he can pick a lineman, he can pick a receiver, running back, DB- I’ve never been around a guy [like that]. He was a great player and he was a coach’s kid and they’ve been around it all their life. They don’t know any different.”
This guy?
Stars are for the ego - thiers (players) and yours (fans).

2016 3-star Prattville (Ala.) RB Kingston Davis - RT @_King_LD: I AM NOW COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN!! 〽️
I think you mean: Ya mon!

...wait for it.
Just took a look at his highlight reel. Interesting. Frankly looks a lot like Derrick Green to me except his team doesn't seem to run him between the tackles much (at least from the highlights).
Does anyone know anythign about the Prattville team? Are they a dominant program in Alabama? Are they playing tough competition/in a tough league?
I kept thinking to myself here is a boulder of a man who isn't that fast but has good balance and is hard to take down... but then there were times he just outran some defenders down the stretch. I'm not really sure how to take this.
about Prattville, but I have to be honest, his offer sheet wasn't all that impressive. Let's hope that he was just an UTR guy that the other big programs didn't find.
I don't know a ton about them, but this is the second year in a row we've taken a kid from that school. And I'm sure there's a reason we picked it for the camp.
