Cliff burton, and Dave Mustaine. Over than that every ounce of it is garbage.

Uggg. between the digital clipping and the HORRIBLE instrument sounds, I don't know how anyone can listen to it without getting a headache.
Nirvana - In Utero is similar. Good songs, but sound so horrid it literally causes physical pain.

PING! PING! PING! PING!

Blondie, the Pretenders, etc. It was a golden two or three years.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:43 PM ^
Also, the Eurythmics. Annie Lennox is amazing.
Re: The Pretenders ... Chrissie Hynde is one of the best female rock vocalists of all time.

Blondie?
February 13th, 2015 at 5:15 PM ^
of any genre. The rest of their work, not so much.
February 13th, 2015 at 6:26 PM ^
The current issue of Wax Poetics has a good article on Blondie.

New Order rules.

I am not much of a fan of the Beatles.
I'm old enough to be a Beatles fan from when they first hit the scene ... I just never developed much of a taste for their music.

first was the "uncle tom-alabama" comment in the last thread. Wow!

Agreed. Some good tunes in their history, but so much blah overall. Especially the early stuff.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:30 PM ^
Not unpopular, but the Hail and Unite idea should Burn and Die.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:30 PM ^
John Frusciante is a musical genius, not sure if that is necessarily an unpopular opinion or not.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
Highly agree, but I don't know what the hell he's been trying to do on his last few releases (Letur-Lefr wasn't that bad, imo)
February 13th, 2015 at 4:39 PM ^
This is probably more a popular opinion, but the Chili Peppers kinda suck without him on guitar, at least on their albums. Klinghoffer is pretty good with them live though.
February 13th, 2015 at 5:02 PM ^
I agree, I much prefer RHCP with Frusciante. I hope he gets this electronic music thing out of his system soon. His album "Curtains" is one of the most beautiful albums ever in my opinion.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:45 PM ^
Agreed. He was the real genius behind RHCP

Tito Puente's gonna be dead, and you're gonna say, "Oh, I've been listening to him for years, and I think he's fabulous."

I agree with you partially because of Johnny Rotten's infamous "I Hate Pink Floyd" shirt, but also because of my personal opinion.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
I'm under the age of 25.
There is barely any real music made anymore. What the kids today will grow up calling country, rap, and rock is actually pop, pop, and pop. Jason Aldean is pop. Kanye is pop. Fall out boy or whoever tf is "rock" nowadays is pop.
I love Bluegrass music.
I got to the "get off my lawn" stage of life pretty quickly.

It's Pop.

Kanye West has been trash since like 2004 dude...
Havent heard a song from him that I liked since I was in middle school

If you're 25 and already have that mindset, then you are well on your way to elite curmudgeon status. Dream the dream, young man.

Cheap Trick is the greatest American rock band of all time.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:48 PM ^
sarcasm right? right?
February 13th, 2015 at 4:58 PM ^
Not at all.
Name me a better run of quality than the records Cheap Trick, In Color, Heaven Tonight, At Budokan, and Dream Police.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:59 PM ^
The Stooges, Fun House, Raw Power.
February 13th, 2015 at 5:04 PM ^
Totally love those records but 5 > 3.
February 13th, 2015 at 5:10 PM ^
Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, Nebraska, Born in the USA. or Sell Out, Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia. The Beatles, U2, REM, and Stevie Ray Vaughan (and a diverse cast of others) also disagree.
February 13th, 2015 at 5:17 PM ^
You'll have a really tough time convincing people that The Who, U2, and the Beatles were American.
February 13th, 2015 at 11:58 PM ^
"American" part.... I give you The Repacements from around 80 to 85' , Dylan until around 73, the doors until the very end. If need be we can go to Leonard Cohen or the Alman brothers, my God... Cheap Trick? How about The Knack? or Styx?
February 14th, 2015 at 10:11 AM ^
Styx is probably not the greatest band of all time....but it is my favorite band of all time.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:36 PM ^
This is a super popular opinion or literally the worst opinion ever depending on who you ask:
Kanye has put out the best and most influential music in the last decade (and done so with a ridiculous consistency).
The only other groups (I can think of off the top of my head right now) in the last 10 years that has had a similarly high quality and consistent output over the last decade are Sufjan Stevens and Animal Collective.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:44 PM ^
vampire weekend?
February 13th, 2015 at 6:51 PM ^
I love me some Vampire Weekend, but honestly I wouldn't put them in that category. They've only had 3 albums, and what I think is their strongest work (Modern Vampires) is as not as good as Kanye's (MBDTF and Late Registration) or Animal Collectives (Merriweather Post Pavillion and Sung Tongs).
They're definitely up there for one of my favorite though, I just wouldn't put them up on that tier yet.
February 13th, 2015 at 4:50 PM ^

If you think Kanye doesn't know music you know nothing about Kanye, and music in general.
He was one of the top producers in Hip-Hop before he ever released a song of his own. So to say he doesn't know music or is an insult to true musicians is complete bullshit.
Bruce Springsteen (link), Elton John (link) and Liam Gallagher (link) and a ton of others have said they love Kanye's work. He's had extensive collaborations with some of the best musicans (Bon Iver and Paul McCartney for example). He's just about more critically loved than any artist out right now (pitchfork gave his last two albums 10.0 and 9.5, rolling stone gave them 5 and 4.5 stars, etc)
If you say Kanye ruined music, you don't know music.
