Michigan now leads in Harbaugh Sportsbook odds

Submitted by MGoVictory on

As many of you know, last Monday morning, Sportsbook opened new odds for Harbaugh's coaching destination for next year. The odds were as follows:

  • Oakland -120
  • Other NFL Team +200
  • Does Not Coach +250
  • San Francisco +600
  • Michigan +600
  • Other NCAA Team +1500
Oakland was obviously the clear favorite.

Within just a couple hours, Michigan was down to  +300, and Oakland was down to -200 (IIRC).

By Tuesday, Michigan was down to +200, and Oakland was up to -160.

Around noon (EST) Saturday, Michigan was down to EVEN, and Oakland remained at -160.

By 9:00 PM Saturday night, Michigan was down to -120, and Oakland up to +110. Not sure what happened in the course of the day Saturday, but there was big movement in these odds. Clearly, according to these odds, Michigan is now the favorite for Jim's services. Current odds:
  • Michigan -120
  • Oakland +110
  • Other NFL Team +300
  • Does Not Coach +700
  • San Francisco +800
  • Other NCAA Team +2000
Take it for what is worth. I'm not sure what it means. It could simply mean a lot of bettors are pretty confident Jim is coming to Michigan.

EDIT: Sportsbook has pulled the bet (again) after Michigan moved to be the heavy favorite (again).

As fun as rumors are, I just don't know what to believe. And I don't think any of us will get any worthwile information until the end of the NFL regular season.

But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

If Harbaugh was determined on staying in the NFL he would have told Michigan that he's not interested at all by now. That hasn't happened yet so the odds of landing him are getting and better. So yeah, it's happening!

Harbaugh is a lot of things but I don't think one of those is disrespectful asshole to his peers and former teammates. Michigan's outcomes matter to generations of former players. Certainly, Harbaugh would have bowed out by now, if not interested, if only to not disrespect the Charles Woodsons and Anthony Carters of the world.

I offer a different look that I hope isn't true but I think is a valid way of looking at things. What if Michigan is his 2nd choice and he's simply waiting to see if his first choice will pursue him/ give him what he wants (whether that's money or GM power)? Is it really an impossibility that he's waiting to see who courts him before he decides who to get into bed with??

it's not even Michigan. it's about whether he can live without a super bowl ring. there is no doubt in my mind he bleeds blue. but the AFC championship loss to the steelers still eats at him. just as much as the past three NFL playoff exits. I think he is really struggling to walk away from his life's goal. should be an interesting Monday after the sea hawks game.

Derek Carr is very legit and considering the lack of play makers available, he should get rookie of the year. Harbaugh could turn the raiders into a playoff team in year to IMO. The raiders have great cap space, a franchise QB, and some good young defensive players. I think the raiders are the only competition.

Has he been quoted as not being able to live without a Super Bowl ring? Not doubting he wants one, but where's the evidence he wants that more than, say, the glory of restoring his alma mater's storied football program and maybe bring a national title along with it? There's only one place he can do that. After that, the NFL will always be there.

The crowned one said sources report his wife is in awe of the outpouring of M love towards Harbaugh and now "gets it".  Do not say the crowned one's name in vain...

I wonder, from where do they receive this "outpouring of love"? Does that mean she/they read blogs or sports message boards? Is it the handful of former players who've stated their approval/desire to see him take over at UM? Or could it be the epic contract that Hackett has drawn up and offered? I personally like to think they read MGoBlog, but I may just be having delusions of granger.
