I didn't expect Chatman or Doyle to be very good this year, but Donnal has been a massive disappointment. He's in his second year and looks like someone pulled him out of a high school game and dropped him into a college one.

nobody should expect them to be able to go inside to score.  That comes after the made shots for this team.

With Irvin, Walton, and Spike unable to make anything, well, this is what it looks like. If they get going, the offense will be fine.

They have one of the better players of 2014 in Chatman, a couple of other young pieces in Doyle and Wilson (before he was injured) that should be able to contribute, plus Irvin, Lavert, and Walton.

They have more than enough talent to compete; it just happens to be incredibly young in the frontcourt and struggling a bit in the backcourt.  They've also had a string of bad luck.  But looking at a roster full of guys who have a better-than-average shot at the NBA, and with 1-2 likely in the first round, and saying it is "talent-poor" ignores the vast majority of teams that aren't even in the same stratosphere in terms of available players.  Michigan had a bad week in basketball, and that's it.  Arizona is much better at basketball right now than Michigan; they are one of the top teams in the country.  But that doesn't mean Michigan lacks talent by any conventional measure.  Michigan will probably never recruit the type of talent you see at the Kentucky/Arizona/Duke levels, and that's fine.  There's more than enough capable players to succeed with beyond those instant NBA-level talents.

we can't get anything to stay down, and they are way better and way bigger than us.

The kids are trying hard, they just have a long way to go.

If you wan't to thank anyone. thank the fucking NCAA for ruining our season over a joint. A joint.

we can't throw it in the ocean, we've slipped like 6 or 7 times, not two like Bilas said, the NCAA killed this year over a fucking joint, and we're even missing free throws.

their confidence is very low right now, but you take the team that played Villanova and put Mitch on it, and things are different.

But it's nice to see - and not saying you're doing it, although I think you might have last game thread - people bailing on the staff that lost Mitch McGary and managed to win the best conference in the country by three full games.

Until Belein starts filtering in athletic big men a la mcgary or robinson iii on a yearly basis in the recruiting field....we are gonna have lots of teams like this. You simply cannot build a championship level team on 3s alone. If we are gonna play young big men, they have to be 4 and 5 star athletes that are physical, not projects like donald and Doyle. We can either do this or actually become a quality defensive and rebounding team.

All this being said, I still llike JB, but teams can defend his system when there are virtually no elite athletes on the court or people that can get offensive rebounds.

He was very athletic and played the 4 albeit at 6'6'. Basically until we start playing real defense, competing for rebounds, and have a legit inside presence, we will have multiple teams like this one. Why do you think izzo's teams are always good?

I'm sorry for committing an mgoblog cardinal sin and criticizing belein while giving a nod to izzo, but it's the truth. We will rarely if ever again get another recruiting class like 2012.

Not saying it matters, but remember that Donnal was a 4* Player based on Rivals Rankings, so it wasn't like he was some scrub that was picked up.

What makes Donnal very frustrating is that during the Tournement last year, Morgan and Horford when on and on about how he was unguardable in practice, that he was basically kicking their ass.

chatman is a top 25 recruit.  and you can't go and offer schollies unless your players are leaving.  stauskus, mcgary, GRIII and horford were all good bets to stay as of Jan 1 last year.  we aren't kentucky.  we don't oversign guys then deal with it later.

over-reactions.... this team has a ton of potential. we are currently flailing, but they will be a fun group to watch next year and beyond. not everyone is pro ready, though the bright side is that maybe caris and levert stay for another year.
