CC: Cowherd On Coaching Change

Submitted by brewandbluesaturdays on

FWIW - Cowherd is reporting a source close to him is telling him knows who the coach will be and we will find out this weekend. He said it's someone currently coaching a team and not someone we had heard of as a serious candidate and it's not Schiano and someone we will be very happy with. He won't give the name, as to not ruin his source.

Cant rememember if it was Scout Or Rivals rumor, I beleive it was Rivals. But, they may be right.

Honest question, do we know if the search committe has been hired to start the search?

After hearing the news from Nebraska hiring Mike Riley, maybe they confused Michigan's hire with Nebraska's as the out of left field name?

It's Harbaugh.  We're going to buy out the rest of his contract for him to start after Sunday's 49er game.  Eric Mangini will take over as SF's interim head coach for the rest of the season and Harbaugh will have most parts of his UM staff assembled by next week.

49er players will be happy not to deal with Harbaugh anymore.

UM will be happy because they can move forward with putting their recruiting class back together.

If we hire Stoops would he bring Jerry and keep Nuss? It was rumored that Bama fired Nuss because of his interactions with Stoops before their bowl game last year. That could mean something. I think if Nuss is given the chance he will be just fine. He did well everywhere he was prior. Gardner had no confidence and it doesn't matter what play is called if the guy can't perform. Idk, just speculation.

I think when Cowherd says it's someone not considered a serious candidate, I think he's really only excluding harbaugh, Miles, and maybe Mullen. ESPN has been listing Mullen for a while now and the other 2 are obvious. I think stoops might be the guy. I'd love it. People may be disappointed with recent results but maybe it just got stale. A new start and close to home with the chance to punch osu every year might be an awesome way to get the energy and drive back (if that's the reason why ou hasn't done as well).

In perusing the top paid coaches that haven't been mentioned as possibilities, here's a list -

Jimbo Fisher

Bobby Petrino

Art Briles

Bill Snyder

Dabo Swinney

Bob Stoops

Gary Patterson

Urban Meyer

Gus Malzahn

Chris Peterson

Charlie Strong

Mark Dantonio

Mark Richt

Butch Jones

Kevin Sumlin

Steve Spurrier

You can do your own eliminating, but that's pretty much anyone without a filter.

I hate to throw it out there... Tom Coughlin?

Too old but old school, used to be college coach.  I also threw out Rex Ryan a while back... and then Ace Williams threw out Sean Peyton but I can't really see that.

But "this weekend" implies "playing in a championship game," and/or "BigXII."  Sumlin?  (Say goodbye to defense, ever -- "well we let them score real fast so we could get the ball back".)  Missouri's coach?  I rule out Paul Johnson (Say goodbye to the forward pass, ever -- "wait, you're allowed to do that? stop it you're killin me").

Cowherd: I know who the coach at Michigan will be.

Fans: Who?

Cowherd: Oh, I can't tell you, it would compromise my source.

+++

Cowherd: See? I was right about who Michigan would hire!

Fans: But you never gave us a name. You're making this up.

OP - please revise your post. Cowherd never said he knew who the coach WOULD BE, just that he heard the name of anew candidate that will be circulated. This is a very misleading post.

If it's a top coach no one has mentioned, my money's on Mora or Richt. Both run good, clean programs. Both have pro-style philosophies. UCLA can't match the money we'd provide. And GA has gotten stale for Richt.

It's so obviously Bill Belichick. Lets look at the evidence:

1) Bill's clearly tired of coaching in the NFL, I mean have you seen how grumpy he is during press conferences?

2) Brady is obviously going to retire soon, the man goes to bed at 8pm every night. You know who does that? Retirees.

2a) Brady has to retire to start spending time with his wife. The whole world has been watching her kiss other dudes on national TV every night. There was even a thread about it here on MGoBoard.

3) Bill's clearly tired of how easy it is to win in the NFL. The only real challenge left as a football coach is making every Michigan fan in the world happy simultaneously. That's the kinda man Bill is, he wants the ultimate challenge.

He never said he knew "who the coach would be". He said there is a really interesting name that is being mentioned in agent circles, that totally makes sense and that we would be very happy with it. We will learn of the name this weekend. That is what he said. It was a comment he made (clearly to stir the pot), to make a point about his sources. He then found great joy in that the Michigan fan base blew up as a result. We can not take sound bites seriously. So, is he a blowhard? Probably. But we will take this and twist it into stuff, and this is what these talking heads do.

Plan b option in case Harbaugh doesnt take it. He's not the only one talking abt a big name option & this option is being mentioned bc he has already communicated his interest in the job. If its not jh, then i believe hackett has a great second option locked up. We'll see, it cld be worse, look at how pissed off nebraskas fans are.
