09/04/2018 - 4:08pm I've been thinking the same…

I've been thinking the same for years now.  I have no data – just wild-ass speculation.  But it does seem to me that back in the days before conference consolidation and the BCS bowl system, there was room for more elite teams and plenty of room to debate who was among those elite.  Perhaps there were more choices (or fewer “obvious” choices) for recruits and the talent was spread accordingly?  Now, with just 4 in the playoff and those 4 often the same, elite kids know where they have to go if they want to be in the playoffs.  If you were a 5* athlete and wanted to win a national championship, your options with any degree of certainty are pretty limited – and don’t include M.

09/03/2018 - 3:43pm I confess ... I've been in…

I confess ... I've been in the BPONE for over a decade, although I never knew what to call it.

09/02/2018 - 1:41pm I really don't know.  I was…

I really don't know.  I was shocked last night at just how lifeless and unprepared we seemed.  My football emotions are just numb.  Which, frankly, is about where they've been a few years now.

08/05/2018 - 5:13pm Agreed about Trammel.  I'll…

Agreed about Trammel.  I'll go one step further ... Ripken Jr one of the most overrated stars in MLB history.  a few great seasons.  The rest is all about the streak.

08/05/2018 - 5:10pm Herman Moore over Megatron? …

Herman Moore over Megatron?  Hell no!

06/29/2018 - 2:18pm

It's new and different. …

It's new and different.  I'm at an age where it takes me a while to get used to things that are new or different.  But I'm getting there with this place.

I'm reminded of complaining about every single release of Windows.  And the features I liked best about a new version were those that looked like the features on older versions.

I just realized I probably need therapy.

06/11/2018 - 12:22pm Agree wholeheartedly about…

Agree wholeheartedly about City of Thieves.  So so good.  I read it years ago and still think about it.

05/17/2018 - 12:15pm HOF decides

The HOF decides.  They consider input from the player, but it's ultimately the HOF's decision.

EDIT: This was supposed to be a response to Sledgehammer's question above.

05/07/2018 - 2:04pm
Ellenson is going to be a

Ellenson is going to be a good player for someone someday.  Should have been Detroit.

At least the Pistons found plenty of minutes for Tolliver, which saved us from missing the playoffs by a lot (vs. a little).  /s

05/07/2018 - 1:59pm such a bad move

When presented a choice between talent and a system-fit, he chose the latter.  And then hardly played him.

05/02/2018 - 8:17am That's a first...

I don't think I've ever heard the phrase "preferably North Campus" when discussing dorms.

04/20/2018 - 3:20pm This is the answer,

yet I find myself wanting to answer it anyway.  The internet is devious.

04/18/2018 - 11:10am In theory,

but I've found Spirit doesn't really save that much by the time you factor in all the fees (to pick your seat or any luggage-- even a carry on).

04/18/2018 - 11:01am Kayak, but also check Southwest

Agreed.  Kayak is the best and it sends you directly to the airlines for booking.  But it doesn't include Southwest, so check that separately (if you live near an airport serviced by Southwest).

I hate Spirit.  Never again.

03/05/2018 - 9:14am True

This is true. And as I said above, I think also very true of Langford.

03/05/2018 - 9:07am Langford

I think Langford would have been a great player at Michigan.  He's wasted at MSU.

If I remember correctly, taking Battle pushed Langford to MSU.  And then we lost Battle.  No?

02/16/2018 - 1:55pm fire!

It appears to be a misguided attempt to save a little dignity.  There is no hiding from what Nassar did and their role in it.  They’ve lost their beloved (and fund-raising expert) President and AD.  The academics are against the Trustees and Administration.  All that’s left is to try and show that they still have good sports.  It’s like an inferno, and MSU is rushing back in to try to save the family photo album.

02/15/2018 - 12:08pm "In Harbaugh we trust"

It seems many no longer do that.

02/09/2018 - 4:27pm Finally

I'll join in the fun as long as it doesn't hurt my longtime lurker status.

09/20/2015 - 7:57pm future is clear

O'Korn. And then Peters. Many wins. We will rejoice often and enjoy merriment and victory.

08/22/2015 - 8:25pm belgian ale

enjoying belgian ales at Stormcloud in Frankfort.

01/13/2015 - 2:27pm Hesitate to type this, but . . .

. . . East Lansing is a great place to raise kids (I have 4 of them).  Small town, very good schools, distinct neighboods, progressive, relatively diverse, great community feel.  Plus, MSU and most student housing is segregated.  You can live there and enjoy the benefits of a large university (yes, even MSU has some) without the disruption of undergrad life.  My wife and I lived in Ann Arbor for years.  Loved it, but we prefer a smaller environment when it comes to schools, sports, etc.

01/12/2015 - 7:43pm ot: schiano

I know there's little love for Schiano around here, but I'm surprised he didn't land a job during this season's coaching carousel. I didn't even see him seriously connected to a job. That big of an ass?

12/20/2014 - 8:47pm well...

screw Harbaugh. Hire Caldwell!

12/19/2014 - 5:33am TGIH

Thank god it's Harbaugh!

12/18/2014 - 1:22pm If . . . shudder . . . Harbaugh says no

We clearly have no idea (beyond speculation) who fills out the Plan B list.  But the public nature of this offer might change that population.  I presume M will not be offering $8M to all candidates, I can imagine a scenario where -- say -- Stoops for example would have little interest in M for $5-6M, but might be calling up his agent for $7-8M.

12/17/2014 - 9:03am Good for him

I think he could do very well there.  And if he does, poor Pitt will be left behind again when Schiano moves on (Miami?).

12/17/2014 - 8:20am like christmas eve

I'm more excited about the possibility of Harbaugh to Michigan than my kids are for christmas.

12/11/2014 - 12:54pm "spread coach"

So someone posted a rumor over at the MLive Michigan chat that during the Hacket/players meeting, he gave them a timeline for a new coach and also indicated that it wouldn't be a "spread coach."

Can anyone confirm this "spread coach" rumor is pure bunk?

12/06/2014 - 11:53am best wishes

get well soon!

12/05/2014 - 8:40am How does this work?

I've been around forever with virtually no points.  I should stop lurking and comment more.

12/04/2014 - 1:01pm some other names that might fit

Graham, Mora Jr.

01/13/2011 - 9:36am Hope ----> Doom
Hoke's employment has changed Brian's commentary from one of hope to one of doom, frustration, and despair.  Anyone care to guess on whether this new tone is permanent?  Will Hoke every sway Brian?  Or will Mgoblog now serve as Hoke's critical foil?
I love this blog and this community.  But I'm mildly concerned about where "we're" headed given Brian's open, obvious, and long-standing loathing of Hoke.
01/11/2011 - 10:56am An all-in kind of guy might say something like this:

He may be a scoundrel, but he's *our* scoundrel.

01/11/2011 - 10:51am gruden
Until I hear Gruden mentioned as a candidate from someone real (not a single questionable tweet or that pigskinguru guy), I will continue to view his candidacy as a myth.  Even Brian's comments on Gruden seem to be coming from "buzz" -- which I take to be general internet chatter rather than credible sources.
10/11/2010 - 11:56am wouldn't necessarily go that far . . .

. . . but would say that the refrain heard not that long ago of "go to the best law school you can get into" shouldn't be blindly followed.  For most people, cost and debt matter and can impact your life and career options for a long long time.  Of course, my career and educational path are testaments to the fact that life often gets in the way of the most rational planning . . .

10/11/2010 - 11:19am Good grades, a good LSAT, and
Good grades, a good LSAT, and a good life story will get you pretty far with admissions.
Now, let me be a giant downer and ask:  what exactly do you want to do with your law degree?  Because if the answer is anything other than get a federal clerkship, work for the DOJ, or practice BigLaw in DC, Chicago, or the Coasts, then I'd think long and hard before going to UM (and let the negging begin!).  That is, if you want to stay in Michigan or practice in smaller markets, you can go to a number of other law schools and -- as long as you do well -- be very successful.
I went to UM undergrad and law, broken up by a half decade of work out west.  I wanted to practice in Michigan.  A UM law degree opens a lot of doors.  But if you want to stay in Michigan, you may find that other options are worth exploring -- especially if those other options come with significantly less debt.
09/29/2010 - 5:41am Threet

Although he transferred out a year later.  So maybe he doesn't count.

09/28/2010 - 12:48pm I live in East Lansing

Have yet to meet an MSU fan, alum, etc that doesn't think Dantonio will be on the sidelines Oct 9.  Already hearing the talk of the emothional lift his return will have on the team.  Yawn.

08/29/2010 - 12:55pm Value RBs

Forte and Foster are going to outperform their ADP.  In fact, Foster may well end up a top 10 back, but you can get him for much cheaper than that.

Unless you have your heart set on Rodgers or Brees, you should probably just wait on QBs.  You can get a top 10 QB after the halfway point of the draft.

03/07/2010 - 7:05am not so bad

I had one a few months ago. You get lots of happy pills. That's nice. But when they say take it easy for a few days, LISTEN. I didn't and my recovery took a bit longer. And taking your kids to a UM basketball game, sitting in the very top row, and having to run to and from the concourse a half dozen times because your kids can't synchronize their potty breaks is NOT taking it easy.

10/25/2009 - 3:43pm Radio

DId you listen to his 1st quarter bit during the game? How could you listen to that and NOT think that they were going through the list of all the issues Lloyd wanted to address. Sorry, but that sounded perfectly scripted. You didn't get that?

10/25/2009 - 11:29am No conspiracy theory, but . . .

. . . anyone else get the impression that the only reason Lloyd broke the silence is because Bill Martin and/or Mary Sue sat down with him and said "enough already, make a few rounds and try to silence all these Leachesque rumors?"

10/25/2009 - 11:24am Disappointing.

Presumption from many on this blog is that Michigan spent both this week and last (Delaware State) preparing for this very game. I hope that wasn't the case. Talent gap or not, if you have 2 weeks to prep for a team, you should show better than we did yesterday.

10/25/2009 - 11:22am twice a day . . .

for every day of the rest of your life. If we're dreaming, why not go big?

10/25/2009 - 11:19am I don't even like . . .

. . . listening to him with the Pistons.

10/20/2009 - 6:16am just have to wait . . .

It took a month or two after I signed up before I got an invite. Doesn't look like I have any invites associated with my account, otherwise I'd send it one.

On a similarly note, anyone have a google wave account yet?

10/20/2009 - 6:06am East Lansing?

Is there such a thing as a UM friendly bar in East Lansing? I haven't found one yet, but I'd like to. I'm usually left to a small muted TV in the corner while the other 40 TVs at Reno's show Sparty.

09/25/2009 - 7:20pm A few homebrews . . .

Just finished a pumpkin ale I brewed a a month or so ago. Thinking I'll grab a brown porter next.

09/04/2009 - 7:59pm Frasiers

At least, that's where I used to go when I was living in the area. Half townie bar, half dive. Just how I like my bars.
