Sam Webb says two of his sources are telling him Harbaugh to Michigan is unlikely

Submitted by Raskolnikov on

"The feeling of two sources that know and talk to Harbaugh (one of which has been actively selling the 49ers coach on the virtues of returning to Michigan) is that he isn’t likely to choose college over the pros.  It’s a sentiment that has grown stronger over the past few days."

Youre exactly right.  Respect flows both ways in a relationship.  She should respect the fact that he earns the big moneuy.  The other people commenting on your post are morons.

Another M grad, is a geologist and did his PhD work at Stanford. I used to drive him crazy when I would say that "California is going to fall into the ocean."

He'd go on and on about how the Pacific plate is sliding under the North American plate, blah-blah-blah, and then I'd ask, "And in 10 million years, what, pray tell, is going to be where California is right now?" Inevitably, he'd say "The Pacific Ocean."

"Right. California is falling into the sea."

"GGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!"

It's kind of like that old Kentucky Math gag and it never gets old.

That she doesn't want to move to the Midwest, the weather sucks compared to Cali, I'm sure she has different things she likes to do out there, etc.. What I can't comprehend is that I'm sure Jim has told her how much Michigan means to him personally and much it would mean to him to go back and create a lasting legacy and re-establish the program. How can she say no to that!? All things considered, if marriage is an equal partnership and this is his "dream" job, she can't really be like F YOU JIM AND F MICHIGAN! That just doesn't add up to me! As Harbaugh's wife, if he takes the job here, she would be treated like GOLD, becuase we would all understand that she helped to seal the deal for this to happen! Heck, I will start a GoFundMe to buy her manicures and pedicures for the rest of her life if she signs off on the deal!

My wife loves me, and she loves living in Michigan and being close to family.  I love it too.  However, if me getting my dream job meant we had to move across the world, she would go along without hesitation.  And I would do the same for her.

Unless the job was in Ohio.  That's a bridge too far for any marriage.

Is one place - along with Ontario - that my wife said she WOULD go if I had the offer of a lifetime. Her family is here in Michigan (my family is irrelevant) and anything outside a +/- 3 hr drive is a non-starter.

So, pretty much the only place we could move would be Toronto.

This is so stupid. She married an ambitious football coach. Not only that, a family full of football coaches. Potentially moving around the country at any time is part of the gig.

Also, Harbaugh was pushing to get traded to the Browns last year. Would you rather live in Cleveland or Ann Arbor?

If Mrs. Harbaugh has a chance to weigh in on the decision and has an opportunity to not uproot the family a little longer by staying with San Fran or coach the Raiders for the same amount or more money, how can you fault them for that decision? So he can take a potential pay cut with crappy weather, more work and rules to make fans happy? Makes less sense AND YES, Cleveland may be just as good or better place to live than Ann Arbor. If you have not spent much time...or at all in Cleveland, you are making idiotic comments about a city you know nothing about. There are dumpy parts of the city but eclectic and "artsy" areas as well. Diverse places to eat, outdoor places to be, decent art and cultural places to see, and lower cost of living. It is in Ohio, the biggest downfall obviously but better then throwing out unsubstantiated ramble about a decent city.

I've been saying this for weeks. The Harbaugh or bust crowd will be vocally critical of the administration for failing to land Harbaugh - even though staying in the NFL is 100% Jim's choice. The HorB group will then be criticized for not supporting the new coach, and the cycle will continue.

So much this. I too have been saying this for weeks not only on here but to any Michigan fans I know, who will listen. If he wants to stay in the NFL, then Michigan has nothing to do with the decision, and nothing they can do to change it. I have every confidence that if he did return to college it would be for Michigan and only Michigan. But that's moot if he doesn't want to go back to college. He's coaching at the highest level of the game, in a situation that's easier than coaching in college. I know there's the supposed issue of his coaching style, and I'm not saying there's nothing there, but people have been pinning far too much hope on that. That's not going to be enough to scare other NFL teams away from him, I'm sure. If the guy wants to stay in the League, he wants to stay in the League, and that's it.

I say this as someone who absolutely considers Harbaugh to be Candidate 1A. But "1A" doesn't mean "one and only". Sure, members of idiot rival fanbases are going to say what they're going to say if Michigan doesn't get Harbaugh, but the reality of the matter is he's not the only guy who can come in and succeed. But those people have fodder because of the extreme, sole orientation on Harbaugh that so many in our fanbase have exhibited. People need to adjust perspective, because what I fear isn't merely not getting Harbaugh, it's how people will react to the guy who isn't Harbaugh - and how many good candidates might be scared off anticipating that.

There's a resolution. The University has to pull all the stops to get him but then he has to publicly make a choice. There can be no doubt the University pursued him because if that happens a second time then yeah I'd be pissed. If he makes the choice on the record then fine I can be mad at him even though I understand it his and his family's choice. It just seems hard to reconcile that he would literally idolize Bo yet not want to save his hometown school and the program to which he is inexorably linked.

I still think there is hope though, because it seems like we are nearing the point at which Jim would simply say 'no' if that was his answer. I don't see him leading us on for the hope of contractual leverage. I don't think we'd be at all necessary for a massive payday.

Does not mean "no".

And honestly, the chances of getting him were always in the "unlikely" column. If he wasn't at least thinking about it we'd know.

One can only hope Hackett has a very strong sales pitch...

And then when you're done in Yankee Candle, go into the LUSH store next door, where all the products smell like Yankee Candles on steroids and are made of chemicals that wre easily airborne so they plant themselves in your nostrils - you get to take home the awesome scents and live with them for days.

I always thought it was a long shot, but I was starting to believe Harbaugh might actually take the job.  It will be an interesting next couple of weeks either way.

2 of my sources (which is an octopus and a kitten) point to Harbaugh as a done deal. Webb knows zip about coaches. Get back to recruiting and interviewing high schoolers big cat. Sam is the man on recruiting.
