If Harbaugh is coming to Michigan, why wouldn't he announce ASAP? First it gets a huge early move on retaining and gaining recruits for a successful kick off to his new job. Second he gets the last stab at some rather dumb SF management. In fact either Harbaugh could drop the announcement soon. I could see Mattison being retained by John to run the show until he finishes the year or Ravens let him go.

Bless you Brady Hoke. You are a good man who cares for the program and its integrity but we do have to win and return to dominance. Sadly, that means you have to go. We wish you well.

Jim Harbaugh, welcome back! We missed you!

My 13 year old sister and I are having a conversation and she asks ''So have they fired Brady Hoke yet?'' I say no, and she says ''What are they waiting for?''

I just laughed.

Might have the last laugh here.  I personally think he was saving up to fire Hoke as he'd fired coaches of other varsity sports for far less.  However when all the vitriol started, he was the guy who said "whatever" and volunteered to fall on his sword because he knew it was an easy button Schlissel would instantly press, however thereby taking out that nest egg for himself.  Someone else has to now come up with the money to buy the currrent staff's contracts out, and then buy a new coaching staff away from their current contract with wherever they are employed.  It could theoretically be done with a budget in mind, forcing a new HC to keep existing coordinators but you all can probably see the the problems therein.

I personally don't get all the joyousness with the possibility Hoke could be fired.  One way to look at it is he did the hard work of rebuilding the OL and the defensive front 7 to a sense of decency with not very much to start with, armed with several season ending injuries to key players Morgan, Peppers and Green and the absence of Ty Isaac.  If I were a potential replacement I'd be chomping at the bit.  You graduate 3 seniors this year, 2 years of probable success are in-hand before the actual work of stabilization begins again in earnest, just built upon the simple percentage of upperclassmen in the program.

The Wins and Losses story of Hoke is simple enough, my 7 year old son could understand the numbers and see the trends.  But just the fact that every writer scratching for a story for the last 14 weeks decided to pile on about the incredibly dire situation has really done the most vast injustice to Michigan.  I get that the media has newfound powers in he modern era but i will say i don't believe it is all for the good.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.  Nebraska, Florida, Auburn, and aTm are already rolling the dice this year.  Not every single one of those is going to meet with guaranteed success.....

How geeked up most of you are that a man is gonna loose his job along with his staff and there families will have to find work. All this because a bunch of 19-21 yr olds didn't play so good. Kills me cause Hoke would kill for Michigan and he had the task of starting over, and in my eyes he has done a good job of getting the pieces moving forward in that regard. We easily should of had 2-3 more wins and I was thinking that Hoke has done a excellent job w getting kids to buy in. Here's hoping that The TEAM will figure it out on the field.

Just kills me to listen to all you talk about firings like its nothing, kinda sad imo

There is a reason guys make 7-figure salaries to coach football here. The expectations are extremely high and nobody gives a shit about the feelings of the coach. This is inherent with the job. Brady knows that public ridicule, rumors, negativity, and a hot-ass seat are all things that come along with losing. He knows what he signed up for. He has not gotten the job done. He has and will still make a lot of money from doing this job. I could never waste time feeling sorry for this man's situation other than to be disappointed that he wasn't more successful here. Best of luck to Brady. I wish him well in the future.

I fully agree! It's nothing personal, you had your chance, on to the candidate. He had more than enough chances to make the necessary adjustments and failed. Michigan IS NOT a stepping stone job to get the opportunity to get higher in life. He knew that the situation was a tough one when he signed up. Maybe he is suited to be a mid level coach, that's fine. Some people can't hack it, some people can. Time to part ways. Good luck where ever he goes next!

Brilliant. Well said. If he sat and read this blog like we all do, maybe he would have hurt feelings. But he does not. He feels bad because he was unable to succeed in his dream job just like any normal person would. The consolation and the justification for the high expectations and demands is the fact that he will be paid very very well. My guess is that Coach Hoke is on one hand comforted by the financial security that this contract provided, but genuinely remorseful for taking the salary without delivering what he had dreamed to do.

Would you be OK if you paid me millions of dollar/year to be next head coach of Michigan? I'm a good guy. My family, friends, and neighbors like me and I can read the Rivals ratings too. I don't know a lot about coaching football but hey, hire me some expensive world-beating coordinators! And since they're doing their jobs, I won't wear headphones either. So would you feel badly for me if I drove the program into the ground, leaving a smoking crater?

You act like Brady Hoke knows nothing about football or evaluating talent. If you would take your head out of your pompous ass you'd realize that this program was a toilet of diarrhea in regards to depth when he took over. The biggest problems have been QB play and OL play. The first is his fault for not trying to get a better QB in 2011 or 2012, but the latter is not his fault when the previous coach couldn't recruit OLineman to save his ass. Yeah he put 2 of them in the NFL, but you still need the Samuelssons and others that know they're never going to sniff the field, but are there in worst case scenarios and work their asses off in practice. This program was in disarray in 2011, and they willed their way to 11 wins with great leadership. Without Koger, Molk and Martin, that team goes 7-5. So spare us the bullshit that Hoke has been a failure. Already his teams graduation rates are miles above RR's and he's recruiting players that will make us proud of the program. A few games didn't go our way this year. Get the fuck over it. Do you love your university? Are you proud of the men and women it produces in the community? Do you still enjoy yourself when you visit Ann Arbor and catch a game at the Big House or Crisler Center? If yes, you'd realize that there are things larger than the game. That being said, Hoke needed to make staff changes to help the team and didn't do so. A few tweaks and this team is easily sitting at 11-1 this time next year, possibly going to a B1G championship game and fighting for a playoff spot or Rose Bowl bid.

I'll have whatever you're smoking... Many of the issues on this team are directly related to Hoke's poor in-and-out-of-game decisions. Poor clock management, develop/evaluation of talent, play-calling, poor defensive play in big games... No different than RR era. That's what he's paid for...

Hoke record has been worse each year and he does deserve to lose his job based on the past year and a half. I'm sick of seeing posts claiming Rich Rods teams got "better" each year. His 7-5 season was worse than Hokes 5-7 year and ever single time Rods teams played anybody worth a fuck we'd give up 50+ points and woyld score 14. Hoke failed AND Rodriguez failed. Dont give a fuck what he's done at Arizona he hasn't proved he can win at a school with expectations. Last thing: Fuck all you fans that blame Lloyd Carr for Rich Rod's complete and utter failure. Carr has does so much for this program and university ands yiu should be fucking ashamed. Rich Rod came in, shit all over Lloyd, former players, and tradition and then turned ariund and cried he didnt get support when he failed to win. If course he wasn't gong to get support he was a giant asshole. This program is in much better shape than when Hoke inherited it. The man should be gone but I'm so fucking happy Rich Rodriguez is no longer here.

that is going to obliterate this site when Hoke is retained around 3pm will make Jim Lahey blush. Is there nobody else that can feel the way the shit is clinging to the air? The shitometers are showing the shit pressure is off the charts & a storm is brewing. Shithawks chuggin' gigabytes, crashing tidal waves of shit destroying servers, etc. It's going to be this blog's Pearl Harbor.

don't fall far from the shitree and we're in the middle of an F'n orchard. Pray, pray Hackett has the goods because it's more Hoke or possibly a nobody and either one will bring about a shitquake of biblical proportions.

my biggest fear is becoming a WD level poster here so I tend to hide my posts (be they long, short, silly or serious) deep in the weeds. Having a post of mine end up on the front page terrifies me so I try to lay low. Again, I'm not kidding when I say I've always appreciated your humor and insight so you're kind of givin' me the vapors over here with the kindness haha. I appreciate someone even reading what I have to say let alone liking it. Truly mutual respect.

Am I naive in thinking Hackett wants to keep this job long-term and be the one who turned around the fortunes of UM football by getting Harbaugh? I think Manuel or Bates could've done the same thing if given the chance. I hope I'm wrong but this coaching hire should be performed by someone who has been an integral part of an athletic program. If this hire is half-ass, UM football will be irrelevant for the next 10 years to follow the irrelevancy of the last 5-6.
