Will Muschamp Out as Florida HC
FLorida dismissed Will M. So our turn now right?
Meanwhile in college RT @Andy_Staples: http://SI.com has learned that Will Muschamp has been dismissed at Florida. Story upcoming.
[EDIT]: Will may have stepped down (Brandon-style). Regardless, he will not be coaching Florida next season.

Really? I thought I saw Rich Rod take a 9-4 team and turn it into a 7-6 team.
November 16th, 2014 at 1:04 PM ^
3-8 to 11-2 or 9-4 to 7-6. But if you look at the returning talent from the 2007 team compared to the returning talent from the 2010 team, you can quickly see which is more logically defensible. Furthermore, Rodriguez had coached the 2011 team for 3 years. He coached the 2008 team for 3 months.

He always recruited that state, but just imagine being able to land the top athletes there with his system.

There were many comments similar to this when RR took the Michigan job.

Rich Rod is the next coach of the Florida Gators. You can book that shit.
November 16th, 2014 at 12:29 PM ^
Not sure why people neg you, because this is a very possible scenario. My best friend went to UF and is as obsessed with following them as I am with Michigan. Even he is having a strong feeling that if no Mullen, RichRod is going to be the top candidate according to their insiders.

Harbaugh's gonna need a DC
November 16th, 2014 at 11:18 AM ^
So is Muschamp a DC with a top salary next year or a head coach in a lesser conference?
If Mattison is gone there probably won't be a better DC available (if he'd take the job).

It's happened before.

Mack Brown to Florida, Muschamp to Illinois, and then Mack Brown to Illinois and Charlie Strong to Florida in 2018? Except for Mack's age that seems hilariously plausable.
November 16th, 2014 at 12:18 PM ^
After what Charlie Strong had to do to clean house at Texas, Mack Brown to anywhere is hilarious.

Very appropriate, considering that Dave Brandon was the first domino to fall this season.

Why can't Hoke just do this?
November 16th, 2014 at 11:26 AM ^
There is no toughnes in quitting?
He has two more weeks to wrap up the all time practice championship?
That's all I got
November 16th, 2014 at 11:31 AM ^
It's very possible Hoke has had some conversations like this with Brandon/Hackett. All the anger and vitriol aside, I think the smartest thing to do with Hoke is let him exit in a way that would allow him to stay connected to Michigan after he's no longer the football coach.
I know nobody is happy with him as a head coach but it seems crazy to ruin any chance for him to stay active with the school/AD in a constructive way moving forward. I think he could have a lot to offer, and that would be flushed with a public mid-week firing with two weeks left in the season.

your ex wife to babysit your new wife's kids. I'm afraid it would not work, just uncomfortable situation for everyone, as good a guy as he is.
November 16th, 2014 at 11:49 AM ^
I'm not talking about Hoke coaching, I mean staying active with Michigan causes and maybe accepting a role in the AD after a new coach has established himself.
November 16th, 2014 at 11:56 AM ^
It worked with Bump Elliott.

November 16th, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
Swollow his pride? The lack of ability to do that very thing is pretty much what's gotten him into his current situation! And you think he'd take a lesser role as an assistant coach or something? Man pass me what you're smokin'!!
November 16th, 2014 at 1:26 PM ^
We are talking about completely different aspects of his personality structure. We all have our strenghts and blind spots. You are referrring to his liminations as a strategic thinker i.e. his inabilty to see past his ideas of what the team should be to see the situation objectively and respond accordingly. I am referring to what I see as his capacity to swallow his pride and act in the best interests of the University and the players he recruited and coached -- even if he can no longer serve as their head coach. The reality is that he still has a lot to offer UM even if not as its head coach. Just look at the inroads he has built restoring recruiting relationships with Michigan high schools. After this season, he is going to have to take a lesser role somewhere. If (and only if) the next head coach is okay with having Hoke involved with the program, then I would be okay with it. Likely? No. But I agree with justingoblue's comment that nothing constructive will be served by destroying the relationship and running him out of town.
November 16th, 2014 at 3:23 PM ^
His capacity to swollow his pride in terms of scheme/game concepts/etc operates completely separate from his ability to swollow his pride in his role with UM? Are the two not intrisically connected?
November 16th, 2014 at 2:18 PM ^
Yeah, that worked out well when they let Carr hang around for a while.
November 16th, 2014 at 12:00 PM ^
He's potentially an asset to the program in the future. If Moeller can be invited back, so can Hoke.
It didn't work out here with Hoke, but not every guy has to be run out of town and then bad-mouthed (as Rodriguez was by Brandon). There's absolutely nothing to gain from that kind of garbage. Hoke worked hard for Michigan and represented the program well. It just didn't work out with him as head coach. It happens. He should be thanked and welcomed back if an opportunity arises in the future.

This is the move Michigan should be making. The 2014 season is lost. I'm unsure whether I want to bear seeing this team in a bowl game on national TV. However, given LSU's current state, Coach Miles may soon be on the market. Florida is definitely getting ahead of Michigan for the chance to take Mullen.
Given the past few coaching searches, I have little confidence in the AD and University adminstrators to behave properly and get it right this time.
November 16th, 2014 at 11:42 AM ^
And firing Hoke right now--mid season after two consecutive wins--would make us look even stupider than we already do.
Keep your pants on. He'll be gone after OSU and our pursuit of Harbaugh, Mullen, or anyone else we might want will be completely unaffected by the timing.

Do you actually think Miss St. could stop Florida or Michigan or anyone from talking to Mullen?
November 16th, 2014 at 11:58 AM ^
They wouldn't talk to Mullens. They would talk to his agent.
November 16th, 2014 at 2:21 PM ^
"Allow"? Have you ever looked for a job that you think is better than your current one? You don't tell your boss, "Oh hey, I'm interviewing for another job tomorrow. Can I take a day off?" All Florida has to do is to contact Mullen's agent and ask if there is interest.
November 16th, 2014 at 11:27 AM ^
Why does everyone keep saying this is such a smart move by Florida? This has been brought up ad nauseam with regards to Hoke; generally firing your HC mid season doesn't get you a whole lot and just causes the program to sink that much faster leading into the next cycle. People seem to want to do it out of anger at poor results rather than any rational benefit.
Then again, the fact that they got Muschamp to coach out the season is a bit of a crazy coup.

How did firing Zook mid-season help they get Meyer? Why would they not have gotten Meyer if they fired Zook at the end of the season?

I think ND was after him, but he picked Florida.
November 16th, 2014 at 11:36 AM ^
Keeping Hoke entrenched as our coach has already hurt our onfield performance and our recruiting class has imploded. This cannot sink much faster. When USC fired Kiffin, they improved remarkably and salvaged their season. Their recruiting continued as usual. What are the positives of dragging this out?
