Snowflakes Thread: Coaching

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be the thread for your various snowflakes about the coaching and decision-making in general throughout the game. We can even throw in special teams at no extra charge and offer a factory warranty on this thread (not valid in Morristown, NJ due to a very dumb ordinance).

I give gratitude to IU's coaching staff for sitting the starting RB and 3/4 of the starting defensive backfield for a good portion of the first half.

I also suspect there may be some Tom Crean related plot to let Hoke win to prevent Harbaugh from ending up in Ann Arbor.

Tom Crean...be very cautious when dealing with Tom Crean!

Where is the anti-hoke crowd? We played a well-coached game today and Hoke made amazing case of why he should be retained. If Brady isn't coaching this team in 2015 and 2016 then our program is truly doomed for the next decade or so

My only gripe is the lack of  2-minute drill at the end of the first-half.  We have 1:20 to work with and rip off a 16-yard run to put it on the 36 . . . why not try to air it out and get another score?

The problem was that they didn't use a TO on 4th down before IU kicked. It cost them 30 seconds. Then a big gain followed by the same exact running play with no deception like they may go for it. That kind of conservative BS when you stink leads to fans not wanting to stick around. So they didn't.

The team is up three scores, going into the wind, your QB had just made a couple of poor decisions on some of his passes, and you get the ball to start the second half. The right move is to play conservative and go into the locker room up by at least three scores.

I've never understood why you should care whether you're getting the ball in the second half--a wasted possession is a wasted possession.

But your other arguments are spot-on...except that Gardner's last throw on the prior possession wasn't a bad decision, it was a bad throw, one that he didn't step into and underthrew by about 20 yards (maybe more, I'd have to look again). If I'm right that those underthrows happen when an injury flares up (I'm convinced there's still something wrong with his front foot) there would have been even more reason to get 20 minutes in the locker room before you asked him to drop back again.

Looked not so good after the offense stars the second half poorly and Indiana takes the ball and scores points. Every possession counts. Packing it in was a no vote of confidence for the offense as a whole. Really, it was gutless. They could have kicked Indiana while they had them down. Instead, you let them get up off the mat.

I'm mostly happy with what happened today. According to Glen Mason, there were a few questionable calls on offense today. He obviously knows everything. But looking at what happend today in a vacuum, I have no reason to be sad. So I'm happy.

welp, NW looked more beatable today- but that is a road game and we know how that must go (crazy how that works isn't it?). Terps looked better so it will be an interesting 2 games- I am not even considering a chance to beat OSU in C-bus.

Was when Hoke was caught on TV twice asking Greg what the defensive play call was. I'm sure everyone else who saw that too had the same reaction as me #headset

He is lost and looks absolutely ridiculous on the sidelines. It's actually comical to watch him bumble around the assistant coaches staring off into space.

was prepared today, they played with energy, the OL did some good things, the DL (despite injuries) showed up, etc. So let's ridicule the coach?

Still baffled by the Drake show yesterday. Like Amanda Bynes at a dollar store. Our running game sucked all year and they let Drake sit the bench. Nice job Freddie.

the expectations have obviously dropped so far that we take a win over a sub-mediocre, horrible team, worse than ours team and call it progess.  Devin still throws horrible passes in the arms of the defense and into double coverage that even confounds the announcers.

A median Michigan team should crush that hapless Indiana squad 55-6.

Regardless if we get to a bowl game or not, this staff has to go. T hey are inept and devoid of the ability to develop talent.  Don't let the firing of Brandon and a win over a cripple in a pillow fight cloud your judgement and memory.

Not trying to steal anyone's joy over the win.  I'm happy the kids get to feel the joy of a win, but this staff has no clue how to coach in a game against competition with a pulse.
