Bumped: Petition to Fire Brandon (Students/Alumni/Faculty)
I'm re-posting this to keep it on the MGoBoard because I find it important, and for some reason it hasn't been pinned to the site banner yet. Maybe it will mean nothing, but this kind of stuff is all many of us have to express discontent and disgust with the leadership of the athletic department, especially for those who do not want to resort to boycotts for the players' sakes.
ALUMNI - you can sign it too. You don't even have to remember your unique name.
Follow the 'Login' link and click the 'Create a Login ID Now' on the left hand side, click 'create uniquname', and follow the instructions. I haven't used my umich login in 7 years, and it took me literally 87 seconds to recover it and reset a password. Just need your name, birthdate, year of first UM degree, and last four of your SSN. Theoretically it also allows you to create a login ID for those who were alumni before the advent of the uniquenames. Haven't tired it myself, but saw a '91 grad say they could sign.

What about the petition to keep Brandon/extend Brandon's contract? How many signatures does that have?

Hmm...There's just one...And it's signed 'B-Rand43va'

I saw that. It was weird that that signature was sponsored by Kraft noodles.

The (actual) petition to keep Dave Brandon as AD is bringing up the rear with a cool 0 signatures so far.

Campaign to get 10,000 shirts with "Maize Out Dave Out" printed on them to be distributed to students before the Penn St. game. Spread this around! If someone could start a new thread with this, that would be awesome.

The system won't let me sign in. But I see it's up over 3,000 signers as of 11:25 AM.

We are currently unable to accept the information you provided as ID verification due to a problem with the Alumni Uniqname Management system. This problem may take some time to fix.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

No, We The People (petitions.whitehouse.gov) is for the white house. Change.org is for anybody.
The thing I like about this petition is that every name on that list is a Michigan student, alumni, or staff member. We're all real people with a real stake in the university. I mean no ill will towards fans without that connection, but there's something so much more solid about "five thousand students and alumni" than "five thousand people on the internet".

While I agree with firing Brandon, that petition is awful. Wish someone had taken the time to write a good one.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
I imagine at this point the content of the petition is not so important as the number of signatures. It could just say "@REGENTS: FIRE BRANDON #YOLO #SMH" and that would get the message across.
EDIT: #SMH is "shake my head" but could also work as "Shane Morris's Health/Head"

Add the fact that Braden signed to the OP, OP.
FALSE ALARM. It's the other Braden. See downthread for confirmation.

There is an alumnus who shares this name with our esteemed hockey captain.

I think you mean there is a hockey captain who shares this name with an esteemed alumnus.

I think Hoke signed it.

I double checked the UofM email system, and there are two Benjamin Braden's with UniqueNames. So it's possible that wasn't the football Ben Braden, but a different one

From what I quickly glanced at too from the architecture department.

I'm not advocating that anyone does or does not sign this petition. Just make sure you read it and think through what you are signing your uniqename to. This is requesting that someone lose their job and have a major black mark put on their career. I just ask that you don't get caught up in a lynch mob and act without truly thinking the whole thing through.

Of those poor millionaires!
September 30th, 2014 at 11:36 AM ^
I think Brandon will be okay.

This is requesting that someone lose their job and have a major black mark put on their career.
If you don't think that's entirely justified at this point, I don't know what to tell ya.
It's not like he's going to be homeless out on the street begging for change if he loses the job.
September 30th, 2014 at 11:45 AM ^
1. This is already a huge black mark on his career. Not really the first. We hope to make it the last.
2. He'll be ok. He can never get another job, and he'll still be ok.
3. Plenty of others have lost their jobs (Jon Falk, Bruce Madej, etc), and while they weren't "fired" I'd still be more worried about them.
4. How about Madej for the next AD? Maybe he doesn't have the administrative/executive skills, but he sure does know what Michigan should be, and how it should be run. Would have handled this way better than Brandon has.

I think you make all good points. I am just uncomfortable with some of the postings that seem to take personal pleasure at this. I think if a personal revels in someone else's misfortune (even if they brought it on themselves) that is a bad look.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:06 PM ^
Some do seem to be enjoying this too much. A bit of a mob mentality.
I don't wish Brandon ill in the future with whatever he does, I just don't want that to have anything to do with UM. He did the best he knows how (with the possible exception of the past few days), but it's just not the right fit here.
September 30th, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
For the record I take personal pleasure in this. I wish him ill-will. I am a hater.
September 30th, 2014 at 5:01 PM ^
Also for the record, I'm really not a hater and I rarely wish anyone the least bit of misfortune. And I'm taking personal pleasure in this. I appreciate the spirit of Kilgore's post and feelings; I just can't summon up that emotion in myself with this.

Madej should definitely get his job back if he wants it. I want a proven AD with experience in that position though.

I thought he retired?
