Full Uniformz For Penn State Released
At 8:15 on a Friday, so unless they're trying to bury their publicity stunt—not likely—they were blindsided by the catalogs for like the third straight time and released them early because the cat was already out of the bag. It's 2014, guys: the internet is fast.
The cat:
Goofy numbers were already known, and then the monochrome blue. They're running out of options before they start tossing around all yellow, aren't they?
Yes. Exactly.
All told this actually doesn't look awful. I think the block M on the pants pops nicely; I have, at different times in my life, occasionally wanted to try out blue pants (which, by the way, we are almost guaranteed to see on the road this year, because why not?).
The thing is, our home uniforms are absolutely awesome. Sure, the kids like it, but USC and Alabama recruit just fine with uniforms that are quite a bit less interesting than ours. We have the best uniforms in football--why not wear them?
The worst thing about the UTL 1 unis is that new unis became a perpetual theme for the year--they put numbers on the helmets, the stripey things against State, the alternate bowl unis, etc. It got ridiculous. If this is a one-off for a night game on an otherwise drab home schedule, fine. I'll even accept one (1 [that is, <2{seriously, the only two numbers acceptable here are zero or one}]) occasion of blue pants on the road. But that's it. We have a uniform; wear it.

I like it.
I would be completely, 100% fine with this. But hands off the helmet and the home uniforms, Brandon.

with your 100%, Turd. Does that make me 200%?
Anyway, I decided to let it soak in overnight before commenting on the uniform controversy. Those things we're going to see at Michigan Stadium vs. Penn St.? If it weren't Michigan, they don't look half bad overall, other than the striped #'s (which look like TV screen used to look on my folks' TV when I was a kid).
But WTF is it with f***ing with the best home uniform out there? Do it on the road, where tradition isn't nearly as big a part of the overall picture. Now we're all gonna be subjected---until the next bastardization---to those new unis in EVERYTHING the media produces, whether it be on TV promos for upcoming televised games, magazine covers, various media /sports websites, EVERYWHERE! That's exactly what has happened with each and every variation of uniform our team has worn since Brandon got us involved with this craziness---each and every time I see Michigan Football in some publication we're shown wearing one of the UTL or the "bumblebee" or one of the bowl uni's. F that! When I see Michigan, i want to see that fantastic home uniform we already have!
It's been said by many others, but I'll say it again---when you have a perfect look already, leave it alone---the Tigers, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cardinals in baseball; USC, Alabama, Penn State, Green Bay, and several others in Football don't mess with their home unis---and Michigan used to belong to that club. It makes me sad to have to say that.
And now that we have them I'm guessing we'll see it happen.
I wish we just stuck with our original jerseys as we have the best uniform in sports, but as far as UNIFORMZ, those are the best ones yet.

but still, wtf, does Brandon sit in an office with MS Paint and then tell some Adidas toady to make it so?

Team reaction.
I can understand people not liking the original fan jersey for sale.
But this uniform is perfect. It could not be any better for an alternate.
It's perfect because you'll buy anything with an M and three stripes.
For those of us who aren't writing Dave Brandon's PR for him, these things are hideous.
EDIT: Also, note the seniors in the front row chuckling to themselves, and half the team barely eliciting a reaction.

I love tradition but it's also nice to see something new that can be used once in a while.

He's like "What in the hell" /smh the entire time.

JMFR is fairly laid back and doesn't say a lot in the LR.

Take the tire marks off of the numbers and whatever silver crap is on the sleeve and they're good. There's easier ways than this to look a little bit more modern without having to feel like you're reinventing the wheel.
I honestly believe those tire marks are there because it's a subtle way for adidas to highlight its brand (with its famously striped logo). Look back at Michigan's alternate uniforms with adidas and you'll see a pattern. Nike might not be much better - and this is college football in 2014 - but our home uniform has become a shoe company ad.

I dont understand the outrage and at this point I might as well stop trying. I could understand if we were talking about changing the winged helmet, or the perminent jersey. But for fuck sakes its one game. Its the same players, same school, same team. I like our standard uni just fine, but having something new once every/everyother year is ok in my book. Its obnoxious listening to the stream of hate every time uniforms come up and it reminds me of why i usually stay away from internet forum cesspools.
If Michigan wore these in the Rose Bowl fans probably wouldn't have a problem with them but then again given our fanbase... Yeah, I should probably back off that given there are a contingent that feel Michigan should probably wear leather helmets and wool jerseys because of tradition.

Pretty much. I think the helmet in gerneral might be too progressive for the fanbase as a whole. And we should eliminate the forward pass from our playbook because it isnt Michigan.

See, a new tradition born which supplanted a previous tradition.
I assume there will be a red ball attached to the face mask and the cleats will be large and floppy.
Who cares what we think. Hopefully it helps with the recruits at the game especially one KLC.
If Dave Brandon is reading this, plz bring back this jersey(it has the block M on both sides)
The road unis never looked better than that, and never will look as good.
This is hardly a uniquely Michigan phenomenon. In my opinion, most football teams don't look as good now as they did 15 years ago; part of that is just the apparel companies messing with uniforms, but I think a large part of it is the new lightweight fabrics that are used. While they are apparently more comfortable and better to play football in (the late-90s jerseys look like they weight 10,000 pounds in comparison) they also don't hold shape or color as well. Pants that used to be sharp, dazzle fabrics are now matte colors (see USC, LSU, especially Notre Dame) that don't look as good, but are apparently a lot better to play in.
Hopefully things will come back around.

But at the end of the day they could be much worse.
IMO - These are the least revolting of the alternative uniformz they've inflicted on us. I want to freak out because NO MAIZE PANTS and all, but I find this way less revolting than any of the previous attempts. I guess this feels like Stockholm syndrome.
I actually really like them... haha
I get that it is a little unconventional, but I think they will actually look awesome on the field. When the whole team runs out of the tunnel, I think it will be awesome.
Uniforms matter to people, especially at places like Michigan, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you think that Hoke's announcement of the OL starters on the first day of padded practice is more important, that's fine, and you should head over to that thread.
There, I said it-I like the blue on blue, and the maize shoes are pretty sweet. The numbers are okay...and I think these unis (which they'll only wear once, it's an alternate) will look pretty sweet under the lights. Judging by the reaction video, the players seem to love it too. Works for me.
I like them. The striped numbers are a bit much but the I think the pants a clean looking.
