Coach Prime and Colorado - real deal??
https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401523994
Coach Prime and Colorado didn't seem to be given much of a chance in their game vs TCU
Upset City!
45-42 Colorado
They will definitely be exciting to watch this year!
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
That was pretty impressive. He has equaled their win total for last year, on the road against a ranked team.
Colorado has some pretty ridiculous athletes at the skill position. They are going to beat some folks.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:26 PM ^
Tcu will be lucky to go .500 this year. Not a top 25 at all.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
True but I'd guess Colorado was ranked 75th or WORSE and has about 40 true scholarship players, and just went on the road and beat TCU in their house.
Color me impressed.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:10 PM ^
Insufficient data.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:11 PM ^
Thats the only real answer at this point. The rest is just hot take city
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:37 PM ^
He took his team on the road against a team who played in the NC game less than a year ago.
A road win of that caliber is not "insufficient data".
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:10 PM ^
He gets the result, he gets the credit.
Last year's Colorado team does not win this game. Not even close.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
His kid threw for 500+ yards - that's impressive against anyone.
They'll fit right in Big 12 - no D league.
Beat a ranked team on the road - an amazing start, considering all their turnover.
They clearly have weapons and a very dangerous QB - even Sanders haters have to grudgingly agree that was an amazing first game.
Gonna be a ton of buzz in Boulder.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
Colorado went all-in on Coach Prime in order to rebuild their program... so far they have to be feeling pretty good about the decision.
I do think he will do pretty well there over the next several years.
And then bolt to something bigger.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
Another USC. The Pac12 once again will eat itself in a randomizer of 52-45 games.
Kudos to him for fielding a very good offense so far.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:19 PM ^
7-9 wins this year. I am, and have been, a believer.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:45 PM ^
After today, I would like to subscribe to your newsletter. (I agree lol)
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
Already thought that TCU was a fraud going into the season, but despite that didn't think they would lose today. Guess they're even bigger frauds than I gave them credit for, especially their "defense". Gave up 45 to Colorado? Is Alex Grinch also running the Frogs defense in his free time?!? Going to be a bit of fools gold now, as Buffs will likely start 3-0 (Nebraska and CSU next) and then get smashed against Oregon week 4 - hype train will become unbearable
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
Colorado won ONE game last year.
If they win the next two (as you predict) they'll probably be ranked going into the Oregon game. IMO there's no rational way to consider that anything short of wildly successful.
Pretty much their entire team is new - just to line up and play competently is impressive.
I'm neither a Deion lover or hater - but wow, that was quite a start.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
Entertaining, sure. Real deal…can’t say that yet.
But they got playmakers
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
Colorado has 88 new players this season. Predicting anything about them at this point is a fool’s errand.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:51 PM ^
I predict they will win more games than last year:)
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
There's gonna be a lot of angry white guys about this one
September 3rd, 2023 at 1:27 PM ^
I guess this isn’t considered racist. Why is that?
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
Is CU “the real deal”? I don’t know what you mean by that. I doubt they are CFP contenders, but they are definitely much better.
Also, TCU is not very good. They lost a lot from their team last year, and that team had several narrow escapes. I suspect that TCU is a 9-3 team at best this year, more likely 8-4. Regardless, a very good win for CU.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
Geez, 9-3 or 8-4 after losing their opener is "not very good"? Sure, it's a step back from CFP, but that's still a pretty good team IMO. They may well fall short of that.
TCU is not a powerhouse; they had one magical season. Beating them at home is still a damn good win.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:10 PM ^
9-3 or 8-4 is a good record. That doesn’t mean the team is good. The Big 12 is hot garbage, so they have a chance to get some wins. They had lots of really good players last year and were very lucky not to win 4 games at the last second. This team is substantially worse.
That said, I agree that this was a great win for CU.
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:00 PM ^
That's fair. i agree the Big 12 isn't very good, though they certainly have had some great QBs and skill guys.
Again, I think Colorado will fit right in w Deion at the helm. Lots of crazy games like today.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
Sorry I was rushing to post and didn't add a lot of context.
Before the season everyone seemed to dump on him as not a good coach and only succeeded at a HBC due to importing superior athletes not seen normally at that level.
They then further dumped on him for turning over most of his roster to the point where I believe only 37 scholarship players remained at one point.
Real deal meaning able to coach and succeed at a higher level despite not having those same advantages at a P5 school.
Sure, he may be more of a CEO type and figurehead but GOD do those players want to win for him.
Much remains to be seen but I'm starting to believe.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
His kid is going to win the Heisman either this year or next.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:24 PM ^
Any good QB will look like a Heisman winner against that defense.
September 3rd, 2023 at 1:59 AM ^
What's the difference between that defense and literally every other defense in the Big 12?
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
Maybe, but they both could end up 3-9 this year, so still out.
There’s something to be said about throwing for 500+ yards and having four different 100+ yard receivers against anyone though.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
During our game , I said “JJ is going to be a problem this year for the haters “
and
“ Deion is going to be a problem for the next 5 years for the haters”
The people that don’t like him are opposing fans from when he played and white people , and neither one of those demographics mean shit in winning college football games.
No doubt he can recruit because of clout , and after today , it appears he can coach.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:45 PM ^
You know there are tons of white people rooting for Prime to succeed, right? Most of their fanbase is white as well as the media that was groveling over him all week. He’s not at an HBCU school now, he’s either going to succeed or fail based on what he does as a program, not his race or his hater’s race.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
Thanks for that analysis ! Reading comprehension is still a thing right ?
I didn’t say ALL white people , I generalized , just as you did.
PS : I’m white !
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
Me too, so what? I grew up a fan of him. Was a Niners fan who followed him even when he was at Dallas. I’m sure not ALL black people are rooting for him either. As big of a fan of his I have been over the years, the hype train has been over the top to me. Good win today though!

Because all modesty is "feigned." Because the concept of modesty is bogus. Either you tell everyone how great you are at every opportunity, or you're lying.
Sigh.
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:55 PM ^
I am a Black man who grew up in Detroit, lives in Northern California and has family roots in Atlanta. Literally every Black person in my family and in my social circle is rooting for Coach Prime.
Why? Mainly because we are so familiar with the subtle digs, the doubts about ability, damning with faint praise, backhanded/begrudging compliments and other attempts to undermine success in our own lives and careers. It’s a dynamic that marks almost every Black coach at major college and NFL levels, but it’s also one that the Black pilot/architect/physician/data scientist knows all too well.
Additionally, we don’t tend to carry the same level of disdain for Prime’s style. In most Black circles, self-promotion is not discouraged, and is sometimes openly encouraged. Many of us grew up in churches where men in flashy suits who sounded a lot like Deion Sanders preached prosperity gospel. It’s familiar…even reassuring.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:43 PM ^
You know...both of these things can be true
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:27 PM ^
Yeah dude, and people that don't like Jim Harbaugh are just a bunch of angry black guys! I'm mixed so I obviously don't like either of them. That's definitely how this works.
September 3rd, 2023 at 11:52 AM ^
I watched this interview as a young lad and exclaimed "F that dude!" when the conversation turned to the Lions.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
Max Duggan made TCU what they were. Jury is still out on Prime and Colorado but they will at least be interesting to keep an eye on. They lack size and talent but they are fast and exciting and play hard.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:46 PM ^
Sounds like it was a fun game to watch. Colorado only won one game last year yet beat a team that was in the championship game last year.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:49 PM ^
So much hate for coach Prime on this site I don't get.
He is fun just like coach Leach and not boring.
I had CO 4-8 and losing today by 2+ TDs. But Jesus so much hate for this guy who has only been a winner. Hall of Fame NFL and starter in baseball. Name anyone aside Bo Jackson close in 2 sports at elite level. Jordan wasnt. Guy chopped off 2 toes so he could get back with his team 3 weeks early.
CO still going to struggle this yr but I hope he gets that team to high level in 3 yrs after tuck coming ran it into the ground and moves on to a top 10 job. Why is anyone against this guy. It's the media fault he is hyped up not his. Blue hairs clutching pearls including a lot on this site are hating on him. It's a joke. Root for variety.
September 3rd, 2023 at 2:07 PM ^
Yeah it’s weird how much hate he gets. Is he polarizing , sure, but he has been that way from day 1 of his playing career , and now coaching career. So what did everyone expect?
i mean, that outcome was a Big12 game as we all have known them for a while now….and both defenses looked god awful, but they still got that W. So good for them.
Colorado will be entertaining to watch…will win some eye popping games, but then will lose some games that will be headscratchers.
And Now teams have tape on how his team will play, who to watch out for, adjustments will be made and good football will be had.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:55 PM ^
Travis Hunter is the real deal. Curious to see how/if he can manage that workload for a season. I’m doubtful but he is an exciting player regardless.
September 2nd, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
I'm impressed how coherent they were on offense; defense was awful. Also, TCU shouldn't have been ranked, but still a big win for CU. I am all for rooting for the Buffs, I just can't stand Sanders and so it's hard to be too excited.
Will say that Travis Hunter looked amazing in this game but you can't expect him to play 129 plays every weekend. Will be interesting to see how he plays in the coming weeks and if CU doesn't need to rely on him that much.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:06 PM ^
I’ll take the L here as I was not Prime believer. It’s only one game but I’m open to being wrong. At least the won’t be boring to watch!
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
Credit to Prime's kid and a few of their skill position players. Nice road win.
Next week hosting Nebraska couldn't feature two teams with more different offences and defenses.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
Tcu's defensive performance was one of the worst I've ever seen for a D1 team. Players were open by 10 yards consistently for Colorado.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:01 PM ^
Agreed. It was a one-possession game in which CU was throwing to guys that TCU was simply not bothering to cover at all. Kudos to them for taking the free plays, but TCU’s defense was atrocious. They make Tucker’s MSU pass defenses look like worldbeaters.
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
Now they get to play Nebraska. If they beat Nebraska, Prime is 2-0 while Matt is 0-2... That will say a lot!
September 2nd, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
Rhule is a good coach and I feel like next week CU will have a harder time against them than TCU for various reasons.
That Minny game was a stinker though.
