UM still likely to go to playoff with loss to Purdue
UM likely selected to the CFP regardless of the outcome of the BIG championship, in these ESPN scenarios
Even if Georgia, TCU and USC win out, we prevail:
Certainly over 1-loss OSU.
Likely over 2-loss BAMA

Michigan is a lock for the playoff. But let’s just go ahead and win another B1G championship!
November 27th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
Just beat Purdue
November 27th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
Purdue is on of the schools that owe a debt from the dark years when they came into Michigan Stadium and acted like they had done something by beating RR. Time to pay up.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
Also for 1976
November 27th, 2022 at 1:29 PM ^
and the 1973 vote
November 27th, 2022 at 1:21 PM ^
That's the plan, but if I were Harbaugh, it would greatly increase the likelihood that I'd encourage injured players to rest.
November 27th, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
Nah Harbaugh and this team first and foremost want a Big Ten title. Not that they don't care about winning the whole damn thing because they do, but they will not hold anything back to win another Big Ten title. Very silly for anyone to think any guys who can go in this game will be rested particularly when you get a whole month after to heal up.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
This is such a dumb post. We just beat Ohio and you want to talk about losing to Purdue, GTFO.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:06 PM ^
Stranger things have happened and it’s worth musing over just in case. I did wonder about this. I guess there’s no automatic bid anymore as they sure as hell aren’t sending a 9-4 PU team.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
It's not worth musing over. Michigan will win by 20 and that'll be that.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:47 PM ^
oh ye of little faith
November 27th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
But, but, but… JJ can’t hit the long ball an an an we got two OC’s that aren’t on the same page an an Michael Barrett should be our QB cuz he played some in high school…
November 27th, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
Totally agree! OK, this would be a worst case scenario and I get it but it's not worth mentioning.
JJ McCarthy said after this big win that they are not done yet and there's more work to do. This is the same attitude they had a year ago fresh after beating OSU for the first time in forever. What happened the following week in Indy?- a 45-3 blowout win!
November 27th, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
Not dumb at all. Very relevant. Yet multiple up votes for this dumb reply.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
I've seen too many top 5 teams not take them seriously and get beat. Happened to OSU in 2018. Happened to MSU last year.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
Heather Dinich writes what her bosses want, as such her SEC and OSU bias is glaring. GTFO of here with talk about us not making the playoff when we just curb stomped OSU and PSU. Trumps any resume from the SEC
November 27th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
I generally agree about Dinich, but her analysis in this article is pretty legit. What really pisses me off is slappies like Kevin Warren pushing for an OSU berth after yesterday. No way he's out there for Michigan if they had just lost by 3 scores at home.

November 27th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
I'd mostly agree unless Purdue beats us in the B1GC 42-3.
We cannot overlook Saturday's game.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:05 PM ^
Just beat Purdue is correct. But think this is why Corum, etc won’t even sniff the field Saturday. CFP committee would certainly take into account a Heisman candidate missing in the BIG championship in the event of a loss when he’s very likely to be back by the semi’s.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
The three 12-0 teams are pretty much locks, IMO.
If USC happens to lose, the committee may (in essence) punish them for playing an extra game. And reward OSU or Alabama for being idle. Kinda seems as if there's a flaw in the system.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:27 PM ^
Interesting POV but I disagree - USC at 11-1 without a conference championship game looks even (high confidence) to slightly worse (medium confidence) than OSU at 11-1 without a conference championship.
Best win: roughly even, USC: ND+UCLA, vs OSU: PSU+ND
Quality of loss: OSU is better off here, even though they lost at home by more, losing to Michigan is probably less bad than losing to 8-4 Utah
"Eye test" - not sure if thats the right term, but OSU has better margins of victory than USC, who has 4 one score wins, compared to OSU who has none.
I think current projections are based on the likelihood that USC wins the conference championship game.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:43 PM ^
Utah is 9-3 (not 8-4), and USC lost to them by one point, on the road, in the final seconds. We'll have to agree to disagree that OSU wins the "quality of loss" question.
November 27th, 2022 at 7:34 PM ^
My mistake - I wonder wth I was reading that made me think 8-4.
Looked real quick to double check - kinda crazy that there's only two 1 loss teams this year (so far), that seems unusual to me.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
We are not losing to fucking Purdue.
We're the best team in the country.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
YEAH!!!
November 27th, 2022 at 1:15 PM ^
Beat. Purdue.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
Doesn’t matter. I want that 2-3 matchup with Tcu.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:18 PM ^
Teams with good QB play can always be dangerous.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
So Stroud sucks?
November 27th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
Yes they can; but look at this season that Michigan faced with "dangerous QBs: Maryland then Penn State then Illinois and then the buckeyes. (maybe add Peyton Thorne of MSU) So, we're 12-0 and I'll call that great!
Trust that defense Michigan has!
November 27th, 2022 at 1:56 PM ^
The funny thing is that O'Connell really hasn't been that good. He's completing a bit over 63% of his passes (which is low in a Brohm offense), he's thrown 11 picks and isn't a threat with his legs, and basically 1/3 of his completions went to Charlie Jones. Michigan's more than capable of taking away a team's first option throwing the ball and if they can do that I don't think Purdue has another hand they could play.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:34 PM ^
In general, sure, but this defense is dangerous to offenses that can't run the football.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
We just pantsed Ohio State. We're not losing to Purdue.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:33 PM ^
1976 still hurts
November 27th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
We owe Purdue and Brohm a major ass kicking for the dirty BS they’ve pulled over the years. Beat them mercilessly and do it for Wilton.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
The Big Ten Championship -- along with beating OSU along the way -- was THE (proper use of THE) goal for a long, long time.
Let's do that. Beat Purdue.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
There is no need to speak of such things on this day
November 27th, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
Rest or play Corum?
November 27th, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
I don't think they have a choice - he could barely play yesterday and that was (I assume) chock full of every pain medication they could find.
UM probably doesn't need him to beat Purdue and if there's a chance he can rehab and be ready in a couple of weeks for the playoffs then you have to sit him here.
November 27th, 2022 at 1:50 PM ^
Yeah, it's a given that UM is in; a loss maybe knocks them to 4 but there's no way they'd fall below that spot.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
Let's play like we won't. If we lose, we would have to play GA.
November 27th, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
Bite your tongue. This is not a scenario that should enter our minds.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:09 PM ^
It would be very hard to keep Michigan out of the playoff even with a loss next week.
That said, beat Purdue and remove all doubt!!!
November 27th, 2022 at 5:09 PM ^
Will everyone be healthy in time for the playoff? Is that possible?
November 27th, 2022 at 5:57 PM ^
Very possible and honestly likely based on what we know about the injuries they have. There is no structural damage to Corum's knee and I have to imagine Edwards hand would be close to 100% by then. Seemed like all the other injured guys either played yesterday or were very close to being good to play. A whole month or 3 weeks if you count needing to practice the week before for prep is enough for everyone to at least be good to play I would think.
November 27th, 2022 at 7:59 PM ^
"There is no structural damage to Corum's knee." Based off what?
Harbaugh claiming the xray was negative? Guess what? Most knee injuries aren't bone injuries, they involve ligaments or meniscus/menisci. An xray won't show diddly poo on the majority of sports involved knee injuries.
Ask yourself why Harbaugh won't leak the results of the APPROPRIATE diagnostic test after a knee injury, which is a MRI.
Blake is a warrior, but I'm just hoping it's a low grade ACL or meniscus tear. Hence the hefty brace he donned for his 2 carries vs OSU. That said, if there's one athlete in Wolverine program recent history that would put program national championship prospects over the NFL, it'd be Corum.
November 27th, 2022 at 7:46 PM ^
We should lose to Purdue if it assures o$u is left out of the cfp
