I thought he was good. You're probably fun at parties.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Mark Jones was so bad that I thought RG3 was bad, but really, it was just Mark Jones. Left tackle is the second most important position of the offense. Hayes didn’t start. Barnhart started at LT and was pulled sometime late 1st quarter or in the 2nd quarter. Neither of these details were pointed out by Mark Jones, who was more interested in dabbing the sweat off of RG3’s forehead.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:25 PM ^
Yeah he was brutal. Called a tackle a sack one time. Saying the wrong tackler or not acknowledging the tackler or someone who made a play.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
Totally disagree OP. I thought he was great. Check your Prudence meter
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
You sound like a god damn blast to hang out with....
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
I thought his Orji in the endzone comment was a little cringe, but overall I was fine with him. I was wondering how Jake Butt was doing. He was on Isiah Hole the other day and I thought he said he was doing a radio call or something.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:30 PM ^
Butt was doing the in studio halftime analyst panel for Fox (BTN).
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:33 PM ^
While i understand how some people might view it, the simple fact was that there was an Orji in rhe Endzone.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:41 PM ^
Facts
September 3rd, 2022 at 6:54 PM ^
Oh for sure it was a fact. However, to me he was somewhat juvenile in addressing Orgi's name so In the end when he made the statement it seemed more like a cringe joke than him stating the fact.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:47 PM ^
A Butt-Hole mash up?
September 3rd, 2022 at 6:52 PM ^
Would be interesting if Butt and Hole did an interview with Orji.
Could they resist the very obvious jokes and double entendres?
September 3rd, 2022 at 6:56 PM ^
Yeah, they even made the joke during the podcast/video. I enjoyed it then too.
September 3rd, 2022 at 9:31 PM ^
OrjiInTheEndZone is going to be my new burner account user name.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
The orji comment may have been much but honestly he was pretty good compared to the rest of the crews.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:13 PM ^
I'd be fine with him doing every broadcast this season.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:29 PM ^
I prefer Joel Klatt, but other than him I'm with you - I'd be ok with RGIII.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
Get off my lawn
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
You’re the only one who thinks this.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:25 PM ^
This is honestly surreal to me.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:42 PM ^
What do you mean “you people”?!
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
Why so curmodgeony OP? He was having fun. The game itself was rather boring and uncompetetive, and I found him entertaining.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:17 PM ^
I wasn't sure if the TV production crew was parodying themselves, by the end, with that clip of RGIII running the stairs for the 100th time...but it made me chuckle they kept showing it.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
I actually thought Mark Jones was the weak link. I enjoyed RGIII's color commentary, and thought he was pretty well prepared. Maybe it was the contrast against Mark Jones, who couldn't call plays correctly, told us C.J. Stokes is our fastest RB, thought Brad Robbins was kicking FGs, had no interest in telling us who was wearing which number etc etc.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:20 PM ^
I thought he was pretty good as a color commentator. The students puking observation was kind of funny.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:27 PM ^
His partner was no better,
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:28 PM ^
I didn’t thing RG3 provided much insight into anything. Though the Orji thing was funny, his obsession with it was intensely juvenile. And Mark Jones seemed like he was only half watching the game.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
Nope. He made me laugh out loud at that comment. He is my new favorite commentator. Some people need to relax. He said what everyone was thinking and was not wrong. There was an Orji in the end zone.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:32 PM ^
C’mon man, this is supposed to be fun! We’ve all been there. I have a great joke but…I shouldn’t but it’s just waiting to be made…ah fuck it, it’s too good not to say it on national network TV…there’s an ORJI IN THE END ZONE!
That was gold.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:28 PM ^
Mark Jones is usually pretty solid- he was not good today. He was stumbling all over the place.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:32 PM ^
RG3 did just fine
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
It's his first game, give him a break. He needs to calm down a bit, and give some actual game insight now and then, but he will. Relax.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:41 PM ^
Fuck are you talking about? Enjoyed listening to him
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:48 PM ^
I enjoyed listening to them. Yeah they didn’t provide all the details but jeez it was a blowout.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
I thought RG3 did a good job today. To me there are a lot of guys they could have put in as commentator that would have been way worse. Doug Flutie comes to mind as boring as hell. RG3 knows football and I thought he did a fine job. The Orji comment is probably why you are saying this but don’t let one comment base the entirety of the body of work. I believe RG3 is relatively new to this so with that in mind I would give him a B+ for his work today. I think he will get better and have nothing but respect for those guys. It’s not easy to call a game and there have been a lot of guys that are way worse than RG3 that have been doing it for years.
September 3rd, 2022 at 4:54 PM ^
Everytime you post something for the next 365 days I will downvote it.
You should not insult RGIII, he was outstanding all the way around.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
Best color man in years. Both insightful and funny. Reminded me of Jalen doing college hoops color in the old days. Love that he took time to go into the tunnel, into the gym with players, around town. More please!
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:22 PM ^
Hit the mute button, turn on the “local” radio coverage, and enjoy. Life’s too short mi amigo.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:26 PM ^
Hmmmmm....I disagree.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:27 PM ^
You’ve lost your mind. He’s the most entertaining color guy in a long time not named Peyton manning
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
I liked him. Needed to let the Orji thing go but he was good.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:47 PM ^
He wasn’t THAT bad but his quasi-sexual references could result in him being benched.
September 3rd, 2022 at 9:33 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing. People have gotten sacked for less these days.
September 4th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
I’m guessing it came up when they were reading through the rosters and maybe permission was asked?
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
I thought he did a great job announcing. I was pleasantly surprised. Former athletes don't always translate well to the booth, but I thought he nailed it today.
September 3rd, 2022 at 5:54 PM ^
I like him. You’re a turd
September 3rd, 2022 at 6:12 PM ^
I'm not a big RG3 fan but his commentary was actually hilarious and at least
September 3rd, 2022 at 6:13 PM ^
I liked him. I laughed at his Orji line after he said he wasnt gonna make any jokes about the name twice. I only shook my head at 'star trooper.' Cmon man.
September 3rd, 2022 at 6:13 PM ^
I might create some sock puppet accounts so that I can upvote this thread. This is the first time that I have watched a college football announcing pair and come away wishing that I could have gotten Pam Ward or Beth Mowins instead. Actually Pam Ward doing color commentary with Beth Mowins doing PxP would have been better than the guys we had today. They were so bad.
RG3 was a babbling idiot who spewed either shallow banal crap or stuff that's not relevant to the game. He wasn't funny at all. He was praising McNamara at the end of the first half for his performance. He's the only guy watching the game who thought he was any good. His discussion of technique, Xs and Os, etc was non-existent. Michigan's starting left tackle being out of the game had a significant effect on the flow of the offense in the 1st half and nobody on the broadcast mentioned it. I don't remember either guy in the mike pointing out a single thing that made sense that wasn't already obvious.
Another pretty significant development in the game was CSU electing not to punt in the 2nd half. It led to multiple Michigan scores that sealed the game away. Was the punter being benched because he was bad, or was the coach just being unusually aggressive? That's the kind of insightfulness that your color commentator is supposed to provide. I don't think that either guy even noticed.
Right after our game, I flipped on the Cincy-Arkansas game and caught the tail end of NCSU-ECU. When the ECU kicker missed an extra point, the color guy immediately pointed out that the holder did not get the laces pointed out and that it probably affected the kick. With that one comment that guy added more value to his broadcast than RG3 added in the whole game today.
It was an all around "F" effort by ESPN. Worst football broadcast that I have seen in a long time.
Yeah, I know I'm uptight. But if you're going to stop the game every two minutes for a cut-in to an ACC game or for a commercial, at least earn your damn pay broadcasting the game.
