Official: Michigan at Iowa on Saturday at 7pm
December 13th, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
Seriously, let's blow this corn dog stand of a conference and join the Pac-12. I'm beyond tired of the B1G bending every rule to benefit OSU and screw us over.
On the other hand, this could be Harbaugh's last clear chance to show he can win in an upset, or maybe get his team to play with heart at the end of the season/in a big(ish) game.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:29 PM ^
The big 10 would be bending the rules to benefit Michigan too if we were any good. We aren’t.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:56 PM ^
You mean like in 2016 when we were the best team in the B1G and they assigned OSU fans to officiate The Game?
December 13th, 2020 at 3:02 PM ^
Exactly, literally assigned refs who had been barred from doing the game in the past

Source?

I do not understand why so many in this fanbase expect the Big Ten to kiss Michigan's ass when they've done NOTHING on the big stage in years to elevate the Big Ten's perception.
December 13th, 2020 at 4:50 PM ^
It's not ass kissing to expect that we as the #5 or so team in the East won't have to play the #2 team in the West, in their stadium, at night on national TV, when we are without substantial numbers of our starters due to various health concerns. Especially after the conference changed the rules to allow an ineligible OSU play in the B1G Championship Game. This is as galling as Alabama consistently getting a mulligan into the playoffs even when they don't win the SEC, but I digress...
It's not ass kissing to expect that OSU and Michigan get divisional cross-over schedules of comparable difficulty averaged over several seasons, instead of the systemically downey soft schedules OSU consistently receives (footnote to a Diary entry from earlier this season), including and especially this year.
It's not ass kissing to have a problem with the Conference turning a blind eye to grabby defensive backs so much that our opponents (MSU and OSU) tailor their defensive schemes to it, and then change the enforcement back to the rules as written when we have done likewise on defense, and just in time for a season when we have a relatively weaker defensive backfield than in years past. Especially after our best team of the Harbaugh era (2016) was forced to go to overtime in Columbus because of multiple uncalled DPIs by Ohio State (so much so the national network broadcasters commented on them).
Eff 'em all! Let's switch to a conference where we can still go to the Rose Bowl, just as the nominal home team.
December 13th, 2020 at 8:21 PM ^
Imagine how bad our road record would be if we were in the Pac. Utah 2015, Oregon 2003, Washington 2001, UCLA 2000 ...
Have we *ever* won a true road game out there?
December 13th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
Yes because west coast trips four times a year would be so great. I can imagine a lot of 8PM Pacific starts. By the time a game is over our players body clocks would be at 2:30 or 3AM.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
They should have just put us in the championship game by looking at these metrics.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:23 PM ^
Hmm.
Let's do the math here, shall we?
Wisconsin - 49
Michigan - 11
Iowa - 28
Wisconsin - 7
Oh, and also? That UM-Wisconsin game was held when we were much healthier than we are right now.
Yeah. We gonna die.
On the plus side, hey, I hope Dan Villari gets the start. Why not?
December 13th, 2020 at 2:54 PM ^
I’m sorry, I can only give you partial credit as you also forgot to include:
Iowa- 49 MSU-7
MSU-24 UM-21
Iowa-41 PSU-21
PSU-27 UM-17
December 13th, 2020 at 3:52 PM ^
LOL!!! This is too funny!
December 13th, 2020 at 4:48 PM ^
So by the transitive property, the best case scenario is we lose by 30.
December 13th, 2020 at 9:32 PM ^
And who would send their kid to play football at Iowa now? Good solid fundamental football instead of the latest flashy fad, aka Gattis and Brown.
If we played the same boring Iowa style with the talent we have we could at least win 9-11 games a year and maybe beat OSU like Iowa has.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:29 PM ^
The final nail?
December 13th, 2020 at 2:30 PM ^
One would hope. The Jim Harbaugh era was ass.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:41 PM ^
But he's 49-22 including:
6-0 against Rutgers
5-0 against Maryland
5-1 against Indiana
3-0 against Minnesota
2-0 against Northwestern
2-0 against Illinois
1-0 against Purdue
12-1 against unranked non-conference teams
Who has it better than us?
December 13th, 2020 at 2:42 PM ^
Homeless people
December 13th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
EVERYBODY!!!
December 13th, 2020 at 4:12 PM ^
Fuck, Harbaugh is underpaid!!!
December 14th, 2020 at 11:11 AM ^
And did what they had to do to keep that unbeaten record against Maryland in 2020.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:30 PM ^
Iowa -42
December 13th, 2020 at 2:32 PM ^
Hmm, maybe Mich should call in sick for this game too?
December 13th, 2020 at 2:39 PM ^
So stupid. I can’t wait for Iowa’s boring, low scoring, slow offense to put up 50 on our defense.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:47 PM ^
Yeah. That's kinda/sorta what they do: their defense wears down ineffective offenses into submission (see last night's Wisconsin result), and then their offense just takes advantage of those situations and grinds out points...very, very slowly.
To say that our offense is "ineffective" would be an understatement -- and saying that it would be an understatement is, in itself, a HUGE understatement.
December 13th, 2020 at 4:03 PM ^
On a bright note it looks like one of Iowa’s better players kindly took himself out the game thanks to a needless flip into the end zone.
December 13th, 2020 at 4:53 PM ^
That used to be our MO. Then, OSU went and hired a modern football coach, dastardly villains!
December 13th, 2020 at 2:42 PM ^
Fire harbaugh!
December 13th, 2020 at 2:44 PM ^
Nothing really matters.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:45 PM ^
I realize this may be an unpopular opinion around these parts, but I'd really like to see the team play again, and Iowa would be fun.
Precious and few are these moments.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:47 PM ^
Nebraska would be funner.
December 13th, 2020 at 3:12 PM ^
That would be more funner, and slightly less embarrassing. But with this defense... and offense, could be just as bad, knowing g how Scott Frost feels about Michigan.
Or was it his mom?
December 13th, 2020 at 4:05 PM ^
Based on what has happened so far I expect Michigan would lose against Iowa or Nebraska. Given that, losing to Iowa somehow seems better than losing to Nebraska.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:45 PM ^
Why didn't we draw Illinois, Nebraska or Purdue? We are 2nd to last in the B1G East. We should have drawn the 2nd to last place team in the B1G West.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
That’s what I’ve been wondering. Giving Michigan this opponent is not only a middle finger but but rubbing salt in the wound of road kill.
December 13th, 2020 at 9:22 PM ^
Because it's not about logic or the rules as they were or what makes sense. It's about what makes money.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:47 PM ^
Sure, one more fist up the ass to send out 2020.
If Milton starts I'm turning it off. I'm sure he's a great kid, but I'm not spending one more minute watching him play QB.
December 13th, 2020 at 9:39 PM ^
Exactly this.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:48 PM ^
Not tuning in. I’m sorry, but fuck that shit. Michigan literally never pulls upsets. At least my Iowa fan wife and her Iowa-fan friends and family will be happy. This is going to be bad.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:53 PM ^
Michigan has pulled many upsets, against the fanbase, like MSU, and almost Rutgers.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:58 PM ^
A lot of the country gets off on watching Michigan get blown out so merry Christmas to them I suppose.
December 13th, 2020 at 2:59 PM ^
Can there be a more damning testament about Harbaugh than the fact that, 6 years in, we’re all sitting around here bemoaning the fact that Iowa completely kicking Michigan’s ass is pretty much a foregone conclusion and wishing we had drawn an equally pathetic Nebraska squad instead.
December 13th, 2020 at 3:03 PM ^
But Michigan has been dealing with Covid, injuries, opt-outs, young players, road games, and not being able to travel to Italy this year.
December 13th, 2020 at 3:54 PM ^
Yes , wait until after
December 13th, 2020 at 2:59 PM ^
So this is the Big Ten protecting their other ranked teams, to make sure they don’t lose again.
They want Iowa and Indiana to stay in the rankings so they get invited to more lucrative bowl games.
A lame and transparent money grub.
Pay the fucking players.
December 13th, 2020 at 3:02 PM ^
Uh, can you blame them?
Hate to tell you this, but UM SHOULD be one of those teams whose bowl eligibility the B10 is trying to protect.
The fact that we’re not and being used as fodder for Iowa instead isn’t the conference’s fault.
December 13th, 2020 at 10:55 PM ^
And why should they protect us ? We suck this year and no amount of " protection " would get us into a bowl game, especially with the reduced number .
December 13th, 2020 at 3:03 PM ^
With Covid being as bad as it has ever been I don't understand why the B1G is playing the extra games besides the championship. They're all meaningless. But gotta get those tv ad revenues somehow.
