Wisconsin has always lived in a bizarre scheduling vortex.  Ironically, the Big Ten splitting in the divisions did nothing to change that.

About 16 of their 20 seasons prior to the divisions, they ALWAYS missed one, sometimes two of the best teams in the Big Ten.  (Their 90s Rose Bowl teams had the habit of losing to Michigan and then missing Ohio State or Penn State).

Then when divisions started, they were put in the East.  And now even a pandemic gets them the luxury of no OSU, PSU and MSU.

The scheduling gods long ago looked at Wisconsin and declared, "we are giving you a road and it shall be very easy."

It's pretty favorable, actually.

Yes, Devoted. We know this is the first time OSU and UM will play each other on a date other than the final game of the season since 1942.

I take this as good news.  We still might have a season.

Is irritating that we play Wisconsin and Minnesota and both OSU and PSU don't play either.  I guess we don't have to play Iowa, at least.

Wisconsin the week after OSU.  Ouch.

Glad to get rid of the MSU and OSU all home or all away problem.

Please give us a season.

Every week should be interesting to see covid impact. As things stand now week two is a potential issue for Illinois and northwestern. Nebraska and Wisconsin are states which Illinois currently requires a 14 day quarantine when arriving from. If that does not change I would expect those games will have to be canceled or postponed.

Why not go full on with the gallows humor and have the OSU game on Halloween? You had a perfect opportunity to troll us there, Big Ten, and you didn't do it. I am disappointed quite honestly.

Minnesota and Rutgers start of the season... woof.

Overall, this has a very old school B1G feeling. I like it.

Exciting to be discussing actual football related topics. Now let's all do what we can to let these games take place.

now onto a different topic... did anyone else see this about Jim and Day during B1G coaches call?

https://twitter.com/jbook37/status/1290839392660029441?s=20

Jim accused OSU of not following the rules (coaches apparently working with players)

Day says How about you worry about your team and I worry about mine

Day tells his team They better hope B1G has a mercy rule because we're going to drop 100 on them

This was posted earlier but looks like it was taken down. I would love to see nothing more than for Day to fail miserably. Urban Meyer was a bit scummy and morally ambiguous but I respect the hell out of him as a coach. He had a strong track record of building teams into national contenders. Day to me is like that douchey rich kid who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and thinks his success is from all the hard work he's done. He inherited one of the greatest OSU teams of all time. I'm willing to bet Harbaugh would have also run the table in the BIG 10 if he had the best or one of the best QB's, RB's, DE's, and DB's in the country along with one of the best OL's. I for one want to see what he can do without a cupboard stocked full of Heisman candidates before he claims superiority amongst his coaching peers. Zero respect for those that came before him. Be careful what you wish for.

Uh... have you checked the composite recruiting class rankings? Day is doing just fine filling his own "cupboard" with blue chippers. As far as "hard work", who do you think called all those crossing routes in 2018.. there's a reason Meyer and Gene Smith promoted from within.. the dude can coach (and recruit).

Can you point towards anything that Ryan Day has built himself? He's been coaching since 2002 and this is his first head coaching gig. He might be a fine offensive mind but it does take more than that to be a coach on Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, or Dabo Swinney's level. He was set up better than anyone to succeed by Smith and Meyer (kudos to the OSU administration) while other coaches inherit dumpster fires. It is almost unheard of to have three heisman candidates on the same team at some of the most important positions in football plus two first round DB's (Okudah most likely being best in the nation).

Given how talented that 2019 OSU team was, anything short of a deep run in the playoffs and national title should have been a bit disappointing. I think it is totally fair to say that we should wait until we see him coach a team to success that is not supremely more talented than every team in the country before we anoint him the next great head coach.

In terms of his class ranking, it's impressive for sure. He's shown to be a great recruiter so far but we have no idea how those players will translate 3-4 years down the line because we have no idea how good of a talent evaluator/developer he is. Other first year coaches have done more with less than he did and still turned out to be busts down the line. So I don't think he has earned the right to speak with this level of arrogance as if he is a storied head coach like Meyer, Swinney, or Saban. Have some respect.

I wouldn't make that jump. We were equally as enthusiastic about Harbaugh back in 2015 and 2016 when his teams overachieved and he was starting to ink top 5 recruiting classes. He inherited a 5-7 team and turned them into a 10-3 team. Day took a 13-1 team and turned it into a 13-1 team. I'm not saying Day won't be a great coach one day but he hasn't proven anything based off on one season. We won't know how good he is until we see a larger sample size that was not gift wrapped Urban Meyer.

So yes, right now i'll still take Harbaugh's history of coaching excellence over the one year of coaching Day has shown. Maybe Day is the real deal and changes that opinion. He could just as likely fizzle out like many before him.

I thought the MSU thing could be a simple thing but if we then go to East Lansing in 2021, that would leave us with 3 home conference games.  Either full schedule would need to be revised or we will play Sparty 3 years in a row at home which I am obviously ok with.

I said I wasn't going to fall for no banana in the tailpipe, and here I am failing for the banana in the tailpipe.  even though it's not likely to happen, just seeing a schedule get's me excited

and my man cave is ready to go.  Been completely revamped and upgraded due to extra time during covid.  As a result of my many hours of sweat and toil,  we are going to win the BIG.  The sorry state of where I was watching the games since moving up to Portland has been holding us back for years.  I apologize to the mgo team for these terrible years of not winning the big or beating OSU, but I have fixed the errors of my ways through diligent preparation and attention to detail resulting in almost perfect workmanship.  With two sliding glass doors leading to two new covered decks I built on my college football watching shed, we should finally get some good QB play this year and for many years to come.   And I also have a beer fridge, so the running back position should also see a step jump.

Let's play some football! (please happen)

So this was in my Facebook feed today, one right on top of the other.  Notice the difference:

  • The "OSU" version (from a local station in Columbus, NBC4i) focuses specifically on when OSU plays Michigan.
  • The "Michigan" version (from MGoBlue.com) focuses on medical protocols.  But not the schedule.

It shows you what's important in Columbus: when OSU plays Michigan.  That's really all that matters.  People here in Columbus are already planning combined Halloween/OSU watch parties for October 24, complete with socially-distanced coolers.

If we get destroyed by OSU on the road, then playing WI could be a tough game in which we could lose. I think it is very possible we enter the OSU game undefeated. I think there should have been 3 bye Saturdays, that can be floated in case our team or the team we play have a lot of players who get ill, then those games could be made up if we had floating bye weekends.

This is taken from MSU AD Bill Beekman's statement:

I know there has been a lot of attention given to our scheduled game against the University of Michigan being flipped from Spartan Stadium to Ann Arbor. This is one of six games which were flipped in location throughout the conference, including our game against Indiana. The Big Ten has indicated that the rotation of these games in future seasons will be reset based on this year’s location, meaning we will host Michigan in 2021 at Spartan Stadium, while playing on the road at Indiana. Playing this year’s game at Michigan provides us with a drivable road game on our schedule, which will provide some cost containment.

So, they flipped the sites of the games between MSU, UM, and Indiana. This season Michigan will play home vs. MSU and @Indiana, and next season will play @MSU and home vs. Indiana

This is Michigan we dont sit here with all this talent we have on this team and lose to teams like Indiana, Minnesota or even Penn St and Wisconsin at home. I understand that Michigan is breaking in a new quarterback but it’s year two in this offense and the oline should be fine.
