Nothing too spectacular came up, but maybe mork has a communication problem with his team, I'm not sure if I should be pointing thumbs or if that is a bad thing?
November 17th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
Damn you auto correct, the title got me and I don't see a way to edit
November 17th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
I don't want to point thumbs or anything...but it seems like MSU might want to reshuffle the coaching staff on defense.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
He put up an MSU backdrop (wrong size) to do the press conference? This guy has his priorities all mixed up.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:33 AM ^
He's worried about backgrounds, so long as they aren't the criminal sort.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:38 AM ^
Wrong size but still better coverage than the MSU secondary
November 17th, 2019 at 12:21 PM ^
I see the irony here, the MSU backdrop is smaller than the Michigan. Fits where their program is at. By next year, their backdrop will be the size of a post card.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:29 PM ^
He’s used to covering things up.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:37 AM ^
His backdrop couldn't cover ours and his DB's couldn't cover our receivers...
November 17th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
He looks tired, like a man who knows the walls are closing in around him.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:49 AM ^
Well, after his dog shit season is over he gets to look forward to the Blackwell deposition.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:51 AM ^
Their season is eerily similar to ours in 2014, right down to the broken senior QB and mishandled concussion fiasco. Now we just need them to lose to Rutgers.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I'm a little torn. If they lose another game, they're not going to a bowl and can get rid of Mork early in the cycle. If they go bowling, they're stuck with him deep into bowl season.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:58 AM ^
Yeah that top 500 recruit might look elsewhere if they make a late coaching change.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
Think big - it's not recruits, it's the potential coaching pool. No decent coach is going to sit around waiting for MSU to come calling after shit canning Mark.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:20 PM ^
And their cupboard is BARE after this season. That roster won't attract a coach. It will repel.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
I know, just making a joke at their expense. I would think Dantonio would announce he's "retiring" before the bowl game though and any coaching decision will probably be made before that in any event. Think U of M LLoyd to Rich Rod. But with less talent. And morals.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
You're assuming that the athletic department is going to actually invest resources in getting a top notch coach.
November 17th, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
Their puppet AD won't have the stones to fire him. If he's gone it will be his own decision.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
It all adds up to more doom and gloom in EL for years to come. Doubt if Fickell comes up there unless he's paid a crap-ton of $$ and has free reign on his program and that's no guarantee.
MSU football is a train wreck now.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:32 PM ^
Fickell would be insane to take that MSU job over something in the ACC or Pac 12. He's a good coach, and coming into the B1G East to slug it out every year with UM, OSU, and PSU in order to even look decent would be career suicide. Maybe for one of those destination schools, but for Moo U?
He could very easily slot himself into the role of "not as good as Clemson but still clearly better than everyone else" and get a ton of 11 win seasons in the ACC. He'd be lucky not to lose 3 times every year in the B1G.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:10 PM ^
This is correct. For that matter, who else would want to come coach at MSU, given the state of the Big Ten East? At this point, MSU is fighting with Indiana to lay claim to the 4th best team in the division. It will be next to impossible to get MSU to the place where they are at the same level as UM and PSU, let alone OSU.
November 17th, 2019 at 8:56 PM ^
MSU is career suicide.
That fanbase now has expectations that are based on Michigan still being in self-destruct mode and Penn State still being in pedo-sanction mode.
Those were one-time unicorn events for MSU that benefited them tremendously that are not going to repeat.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
The AD won’t fire him, he became their winningest coach ever this year. Unless he faces criminal charges or resigns, no way he is gone this year. If he cleans house with his staff he might be able to buy himself a couple more years. I think a potential resignation with Mork having a say in who his replacement would be(Narduzzi)is a possibility though.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
He was never staying more than two years. This or next was his last before the season ever began. I agree he won't be fired and a shitty on the field product isn't going to change his time line. He will leave when he wants to and keep getting his assistants paid in the meantime. If he leaves after the season I have to believe that was his plan all along.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:08 PM ^
And hire Rich Rod
November 17th, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
Classic BPONE...enjoy Mork!
November 17th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I hope State wins the next two games, and he keeps his job. I want to see him pummeled again next year. Their recruiting won’t improve with a dead man walking as coach, and their coaching won’t improve with a guy who simply shuffles the deck chairs to fix what ails the offense.
November 17th, 2019 at 2:23 PM ^
Screw that turd. I don't want his ass to come back and somehow luck into a 10 win season and watch him retire feeling good about himself. I'd love for him to get canned right after a Rutgers loss and live the rest of his life with shame (because he certainly doesn't feel bad about running a dirty program or aiding and abetting criminals).
November 17th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
It's always funny to me, the different ways coaches come up with to try to discreetly word their answers to blame the players.
Frost isn't very good at that technique. I think he quit trying with yesterday's post-Wisconsin presser. Said hopefully the recruits will be better... Players not even signed to his team yet.
Mork's "point the thumb" fumble up in this one made me laugh. They're starting to ask the tough questions now and he's not used to it. Same type the Michigan media asks Harbaugh every week, even after a win.
Our players get asked harder questions than some of the other Highly-paid coaches of other teams.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
Meanwhile, Harbaugh is careful not to badmouth his players to the press. Some fans seem annoyed by it, but I like it.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
Absolutely. Harbaugh doesn't throw his players under the bus. I appreciate that, and I'm sure the players do too. Imagine what some other coaches would have said after the 2015 game, losing on the blocked punt return at the very end of the game. Harbaugh just said he told his players to "put steel in the spine."
November 17th, 2019 at 3:16 PM ^
it wasn't blocked. it was dropped and then the punter was hit from the side. all he had to do was handle the snap, msu didn't come close to blocking it.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
All great leaders, criticize privately, praise loudly and make sure their "troops" eat and rest before they do. Also, when the opposition taunts your wife you put up 44 on them.
November 17th, 2019 at 6:18 PM ^
Yeah I'll never understand the guys who get angry that Harbaugh doesn't sit in front of the media and toss his staff and players under the bus because 'I pay his salary' and 'We deserve answers as fans'. Criticizing publicly is a terrific way to build a terrible culture and lose the locker room. I'm glad Harbaugh takes the heat for everything - everyone under him knows he's got their back and that's a great way to lead
November 17th, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
Is MSU still a "destination job"
Stupid Mork...should have left when he was still a hot coaching prospect.
MSU will always be a regional program, specifically when OSU, UM, and PSU are recruiting well.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
Yuup. I know it's a broken record but his success was built when Michigan was in a crater from a bad hire and PSU was in a crater from the pedophile stuff and it continued through recruiting classes he got at that time. Now that those programs are straightened out MSU and Mork are back to what they always have been and always will be -- clawing for 4th in the B1G east.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
Bad Michigan, Bad PSU AND Tressel throwing his castoffs that way/locking UM out of the state.
Now that Michigan and PSU are good, along with Kentucky and Cinci taking away that pipeline... no good for MSU.
November 17th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
also good recruiters at places like U Cincinnati and other mid-majors have made it hard for old Mork-o. so sad for him ...
November 17th, 2019 at 12:35 PM ^
He built a legacy for himself at MSU. I can see why he didn't go to another program.
He just should have retired a couple of years ago. He's older than both Bo and Carr were when they retired.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
Had he announced his retirement after the 2015 win, he could've gone out as a legacy and revered for decades. Since then the shadows only grow deeper over him and his program.
'You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.'
November 17th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
Was it ever? The B1G East is a murder's row and MSU is... MSU. Add a little Nassar on top and that place becomes toxic.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
it also doesn't help that MSU is no longer avoiding most of the top end teams year to year. Conference realignment along with Michigan and Penn State improving all played a role in the downturn of Sparty.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:30 PM ^
Honestly I don’t want Mork to leave, give me one more reshuffling of assistant coaches before he goes.??
November 17th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
It's hilarious to me that he thought he had the right coaching staff, just in the wrong positions.
November 17th, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
Shall we have a moment of silence?
November 17th, 2019 at 1:19 PM ^
I just want to know if he still believes it will never be over.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
Personally, I'd like him to stay around long enough so he doesn't have a career winning record against Michigan.
Worst part of yesterday was U---n M---r's "I know 7-0" to the question as to whether he knew the words to The Victors. Best part of the day was everything else. But it kind of pisses me off that Meyer gets to say that. I hope Dantonio will never be able to brag about a winning record against Michigan. So: Four More Years!
November 17th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
He's 7-1 against Michigan. He lost to Lloyd. But I guess that's his old memory acting up on him again.
November 17th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Tl;dw
November 17th, 2019 at 3:29 PM ^
Interesting fact: Michigan's 34 point win was the 15th largest margin of victory by Michigan in the series history, and matches MSU's largest ever margin of victory in the series (1967).
Takeaway: when MSU wins it's rarely a blowout (mostly it's a fluke), when Michigan wins its a monster blow out 20% of the time.
