1) I really wish Beilein didn’t gift Penn State those 3 points; 2) Poole better get out of this slump that he’s been in for more than a month or the team’s not gonna do much in March. Singlehandedly ended Michigan’s rally with back-to-back awful 3s.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
I don't think it was Beilein that gifted the three points. Blame Rabbit Ears Ref.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:54 PM ^
what if the performance is the catalyst they need? With Beilein and this team, this isn’t going to carrying over to other games. Hell, the way we started the year we should of won every game.
It just happens, it’s sports...worse game they played
February 12th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
I’m sorry, am I still allowed to critique the team after a god-awful performance before a key stretch in the season against the worst team in the conference?
February 12th, 2019 at 11:00 PM ^
No. You have no credibility, especially after a loss.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
Dead.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
Would have forced a game if we hadn't been in a huge deficit because of thin skinned morons.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
And look...they’re carrying the refs off on their shoulders! We played like shit, but we still would have won with a fairly called game. Just fucking painful.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:54 PM ^
Right- refs fucked us otherwise guaranteed win probably by 20 or so.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
@Maryland and @Minnesota are Ls. Nothing on offense will suggest anything different right now.
Still have to play MSU twice. We’d be lucky to win the conference
February 12th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
Fuck the Big 10 officials. This was a joke and the guys out there have no business working another game.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
Oh, they’ll be back. Those fucks get extra points for this performance.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
February 12th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
Never gave up. Played like crap but that halftime ref needs to be fired immediately.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
You know your a worthless piece of **** program when you rush the court over a #6 win. What a bunch of losers.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:54 PM ^
The stands barely had enough of those assholes to cover the floor.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
For once, I will blame the refs since JB got ejected from the game...that’s all I need to validate my point
February 12th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
STFU. PSU is terrible. They beat a 2-loss team ranked 6. That is worthy of rushing the court. I remember when UM students rushed the court when our team was shitty and they beat a number 15 team. It was a long time ago, but it happened. We lost. We’re the bunch of losers. Take the loss, learn from it, and move on. We’re still in first place. It’s really not a huge deal at this point. We cannot afford another ugly loss, though. We need to at least split with MSU. Thankfully Purdue lost today, so they didn’t gain ground on us.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:05 PM ^
We’re not a bunch of losers. You can speak for yourself. I’ve played in a lot of basketball games and I’ve seen thousands off basketball games. THIS WAS THE WORST EVER. Our coach has never been ejected in his career. I call bullshit on your,”we are losers!”
February 12th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
We are the best, just not tonight. Settle down there turbo. Sydney is right
February 12th, 2019 at 11:27 PM ^
Lol. Thanks there Ozone. Especially since you’re the next loan officer in the thread. You have your opine, and I have mine. Not a follower. This was by far the worst refereed game ever and without Beilein our adjustments were harder. Thus, my opinion of us not being losers just because they did to our team what they’re used to covering up there is not incorrect. They $&:(:$& us!
February 12th, 2019 at 11:19 PM ^
February 12th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
You might consider that fans rushing the court when we lose is a nod towards our program. Since when is a #6 ranking chump change for a poor team in the league?
February 12th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
February 12th, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
Correct all around.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
Looks like that double technical was pretty important!
February 12th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
Beilein’s a good guy, so he probably will, but he really needs to apologize to the team. Made it nearly impossible to come back. Those 3 points were huge in the final 10 minutes of the game.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
Michigan played much better basketball in the second half. The first technical was absolutely intentional -- Beilein was using it as a motivational tactic. The second one presumably surprised him.
Beilein was right to be steamed, though. It's one thing to call nonsense fouls on three-point attempts, but not calling the moving screen was inexcusable. It's dangerous. The referees sent a clear signal that it was OK to injure the opponent.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:05 PM ^
Are you serious?
February 12th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
I take it you’ve never played a sport competitively. JB doesn’t have to apologize for shit. He went to bat for his player and got T’d by a zebra with a hard on. Good for Coach B and his players should have had that same fire.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:12 PM ^
February 12th, 2019 at 11:00 PM ^
Don't think JB doesn't feel pretty shitty about it, too.
The ref called the 2nd tech way too quick, but Beilein has got to feel he hurt the team tonight.
Michigan showed much more fire the second half; maybe they'll come out angry the next few games.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:56 PM ^
Can't wait for the inevitable "perspective" thread in about 5 minutes
February 12th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
2013 team lost at Penn State. Moving on.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
Came out flat and we can't make a 3 to save our ass. Not what we want to see our guys do. Regroup and move on.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
Iggy and Poole need to get their heads out of their asses. Matthews has turned a corner. Teske and Simpson both with off nights but can’t get on them too much because they’ve been the anchors all year.
The bench play sucks. It’s Livers and...
It’s pretty much 4 on 5 with Brooks out there.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:04 PM ^
That was probably Simpson's worst game of the year.
He's been a rock, despite inconsistent shooting. Tonight he seemed a bit off his game. Hope he got it out of his system.
Teske looked tired; Stevens is a good player, but Teske has played much more effectively against better players.
A few games ago Matthews was in a deep funk; Iggy and Poole will get it together.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:56 PM ^
Z was passive in breaking the press. Needs to be aggressive, imo. Wonder if that was coached the past two days.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
Just match energy and intensity from the start. This team is “too cool” sometimes.
Every team brings their best. They certainly know that by now.
Match it.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
That was the story tonight. Never get down 16 if Michigan plays with intensity from the jump.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
Penn State booth playing a top song from the Sandusky era in the stadium. Fitting.
February 12th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
1-11 Penn State. Losing to them is bad.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:01 PM ^
I don’t even know what the fuck I just watched. The team may have a high ceiling, but they also have an unbelievably low floor as well. Just awful.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:07 PM ^
You’re on drugs!
February 12th, 2019 at 11:17 PM ^
Lets be generous and say that this is the team’s floor. Losing to a 1-11, worst-in-the-conference team is a pretty low floor.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:03 PM ^
#62 in KenPom Penn State, on the road. A Quadrant 1 / KenPom A game.
The 1-11 is incredibly misleading.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:06 PM ^
As usual, good point J.
This one had trap game written all over it.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:11 PM ^
1-11 is not misleading. Good teams don't go 1-11.
February 12th, 2019 at 11:21 PM ^
This isn't football.
Penn State is a good team. They're not a great team, by any means, but Michigan was an 8-point favorite, not a 20 point favorite. 1-11 in conference is misleading: lost by 7 at Maryland, by 2 at Indiana, by 6 at Nebraska, by 7 vs Iowa, by 1 at Minnesota, by 4 to Rutgers, by 9 in overtime to Purdue, and by 4 at Ohio State.
If they get a few more bounces -- or tonight's referees -- they're 6-6 instead of 1-11.
