Nevada is such a joke. I know lots of people think on here Gonzaga is a joke too, but atleast they have a quality win or two. They should be no higher than 15th. Houston has the same record with way more quality wins and is way lower.

As silly as it may be I think the only thing holding back Houston in the rankings this whole season is Jordan Poole's shot. Houston would have made it to the second weekend just like Nevada did. Maybe Houston would've even beaten Texas A&M and hung with Florida State.

I think you're right.

Gonzaga obviously has pedigree.  Nevada does too - Sweet 16 last year and they had 4 NCAA wins in the 2004-2007 time span also.

Houston has 1 NCAA win over the last 35 years. Even if, in retrospect, that Saturday night game in Wichita last year was the real Regional Final.

I watched UC @ Houston yesterday.  Houston is just as good as last year.

net is totally oblivious to these things, I don't know why every week people keep posting polls and then getting upset at them.  They're totally irrelevant, they matter a little in football, they matter zero in basketball and hockey.  net has Houston at 7th, and a 3-seed in the top-16 revealed on Saturday.  Nevada is a 4-seed.  The committee does have biases for sure, but by and large they have kept to the net rankings, at least for the top-16.

You used to be able to use Crashing the Dance for that, but don't -- they still seem to be basing things on RPI.  That may be fixed between now and Selection Sunday.

In the meantime, go straight to the source: the NCAA's SharePoint server (yes, really).  You can get daily NET and Nitty Gritty reports, and you can get Team Sheets almost every day (they don't seem to be updated as frequently).  Make sure to select the men's data, not the women's.

Through Saturday, Michigan is 6-2 in Q1, including 4-2 in Q-1A.  They're 8-0 in Q2, 1-0 in Q3, and 7-0 in Q4.  To the extent that the résumé has blemishes, they're chiefly in the form of the non-conference teams that were expected to be half-decent (GW, Air Force, Western) actually being awful.

Michigan currently has 6 Q1 and one Q2 game remaining.  Keep in mind that this is fluid; for example, PSU is #73 in these rankings; if Michigan beats them badly enough tomorrow, they'll likely drop down past #75, moving the road game to Q2 and the home game to tier 3.

BTW, Michigan is definitely benefiting from the NET so far.  Here's the comparison with the RPI-based team sheet on CtD:
Q1: 6-2 via NET, 5-2 via RPI
Q2: 8-0 via NET, 5-0 via RPI
Q3: 1-0 via NET, 5-0 via RPI
Q4: 7-0 in either system.

Michigan is going to be a couple of slots higher on the S-Curve -- maybe an entire seed line -- just because the NET isn't as braindead as the RPI.

The question of whether Michigan is being helped by NET depends on how other teams near them are being affected by NET and I think Gonzaga is being helped far more by NET.  1) the unadjusted efficiencies have skyrocketed them to number 1 in NET overall.  They are getting a lot of credit for 50 point wins and 2) for the same reasons, their opponents like St. Mary's and San Fransisco are being helped by NET compared to RPI.

OK, that's a fair point.  Here's the same comparison for Gonzaga:

Q1: NET 3-2, RPI 5-2
Q2: NET 6-0, RPI 4-0
Q3: NET 4-0, RPI 6-0
Q4: NET 10-0, RPI 8-0

Gonzaga is #6 in the RPI, so the NET helps them there.  However, the NET isn't helping their team sheet at all.

I think the Top 16 thing is just a reflection of the fact that Michigan hasn't played MSU yet.  If Michigan picks up 2 wins over MSU and ends up with 5 losses or fewer, I'd say they're a 1 seed.

The top seeds are going to be interesting as it gets toward the end of the season.  I also don't understand the Nevada love, but whatever.  Look at it from a conference perspective knowing that these teams will have to fight through the end of their seasons and conference tournaments:

  • Big Ten:  Michigan (#6.5), MSU (#11.5), Purdue (#11.5)
  • ACC:  Duke (#2), Virginia (#4)
  • SEC:  Tenn (#1), UK (#5)

I'd like to think that each conference gets a 1-seed to their top performer and that none of those conferences earn a second one.  My fear is that the B10 eats itself over the next month and we lose our shot at a 1-seed so that the second team from these conferences gets one.

DAMN IT MSU loses at home to a 6-14 team by double digits, and drops TWO FUCKING SPOTS!!!

Why the hell do we drop like bowling ball when we lose, and MSU almost stays even when they lose!

Holy shit Izzo gets waaaaay too much respect!!

Holy shit. UT fans are SOOOOOOOO easily triggered. Check the SportsCenter twitter about the poll and then scroll to see how amazingly triggered the Vol fans are. It's insane.

There are seven Tennessee basketball fans.  You'll have to forgive their insecurity.

Also, Tennessee is a very good basketball team this year.  They really are.  They're not the best team in the country, but they're in the top 10.  For Tennessee, in basketball, that's an accomplishment.

I see this a lot on this site, more so in football threads m - is there any evidence whatsoever about all these "bagmen" theories, or is that the go to conspiracy of the board when things don't go our way?  Comes across as childish.

UT football has recruited suspiciously well lately as compared to their performance on the field. IIRC there was a noticeable uptick in their recruiting performance recently

It is fairly well known that top players often get benefits on the side and some places provide a lot more benefits than others

I dare the committee to give us the Two-Seed in the West (opposite #1 Gonzaga).

Let us play "home games" again in the Regional round in southern California at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

I dare the committee!!

Gonzaga is a great team. People on here tend to hate on them, but they are legit. They don't realize they've been playing a lot this season without one of their best players, Tillie.

Gonzaga is legit and I hope we somehow play I to a 1 seed to avoid being in their region

Also, this will work out like it always does. Michigan will be a seed or two lower than they should be, they'll be given less luxuries than MSU does (I'm sure they'll play in Columbus and we'll play in Buttfuck, Montana) and we'll still make the Final Four while MSU gets bounced in the first weekend. It's the natural order of things. Only thing we have to worry about is whether we're going to beat Gonzaga by 20 in the Elite Eight or Kentucky by 20 in the Elite Eight

This shows again how absurd it was of the Committee to have Sparty on the two seed line.  They just came off two bad losses and even the polls have responded appropriately.
