247Sports Transfer Portal
247Sports transfer portal is now live:
https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Football/TransferPortal/
Article with player list:
https://247sports.com/Article/NCAA-transfer-portal-names-players-destinations-127866941/
Their portal has where the players have decided to transfer. For example, Solomon (Tenn) and Singleton (Rutger) which we already knew. I was hoping M would recruit Luke Ford again, but he will be going home to Illinois. The list does not distinguish between regular vs grad transfers.

Penn St has 11 players in it. How the F did the NCAA let this happen this way. That’s more then 10% of the scholarship players in the portal. Wow
January 24th, 2019 at 6:06 AM ^
What do you mean "how did the NCAA let this happen "??
January 24th, 2019 at 9:08 AM ^
He means there aren't enough restrictions on the student athletes.
January 24th, 2019 at 6:34 AM ^
Three wide outs and a tight end! Guess they do not think highly of Frame's potent passing attack!
January 24th, 2019 at 6:37 AM ^
In the portal does not mean 100% going to transfer.
January 24th, 2019 at 7:57 AM ^
If you put your name in the portal, you are not happy at your current school. Exploring other options usually means the current option ain’t working.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:11 AM ^
One of the bigger names was WR Jeff Thomas of Miami. Not only did he put his name in the portal, he announced he was transferring to Illinois. He changed his mind and went back to Illinois.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:52 AM ^
I'll FIFY: He changed his mind and went back to Miami.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:44 AM ^
The portal is football's equivalent to an 'open relationship'?
January 24th, 2019 at 8:54 AM ^
It's complicated.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:56 AM ^
it's not you coach.... its me.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:55 AM ^
PSU took a bunch of lower rates guys when they were freshly sanctioned and Bill O’Brien went to the NFL.
Their portal kids have mostly been passed over by very good classes by Franklin. Thankfully, Franklin is a terrible coach and doesn’t have Moorehead.
January 24th, 2019 at 9:01 AM ^
Franklin is heading into his sixth year at Penn State. Any players left over from the Bill O'Brien era would've graduated/declared for the NFL no later than the end of the 2017 season, maybe 2018 season if they happened to have any sixth year students who got a medical redshirt after their fifth year.
This is all Franklin's team at this point.
January 24th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
I logged in to say this. 100% spot on. There are some highly rated recruits that may have been passed over, but highly rated just the same. Makes Michigan's transfers not seem so much like a big deal.
January 24th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
You do realize that a 3* kid is not really a lower rated kid based on the amount of kids that actually get rated? Some don’t realize here how algae’s it is to even get a 3*.....
January 24th, 2019 at 4:56 AM ^
Is there a way to sort or search this database (by team for example)? It's probably obvious and I'm just missing it....
January 24th, 2019 at 6:42 AM ^
I don’t think so. That’s something they’re probably working on, but it is not available yet. I wanted to filter by class year and such, but it wasn’t there.
January 24th, 2019 at 6:44 AM ^
That is A TON of guys. Does anyone know if this is way more than normal or if it just seems like it since we can now see it?
January 24th, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
I’m surprised it’s not even larger. Anyway, while they are at it, they should also formulate a “transfer” assistant coach list which charts/tracks their movement(s) as well....
January 24th, 2019 at 5:52 PM ^
It is! Guys like Ulizio aren’t listed on there
January 24th, 2019 at 7:56 AM ^
Michigan does not need more TEs...I believe the Gattis offense will de-emphasis the position-as traditionally employed.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:03 AM ^
We'll see about that. If you look at Alabama's roster, there are a ton of tight ends - and Michigan recruited most/all of them.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:13 AM ^
I think Gattis specifically mentioned in his interviews that we will continue being multiple in formations and that 12 personnel would be one of the options which is 2 TEs.

January 24th, 2019 at 8:40 AM ^
I first read your comment as "12 personnel would be one of the options which is 12 TEs." Which I believe Harbaugh dreams about.
January 24th, 2019 at 10:21 AM ^
Well, he probably dreams about 6 fullbacks and 6 TEs, but 12 TEs is close enough
January 24th, 2019 at 8:13 AM ^
Good TEs pose mismatches. What offense wouldn't want that?
January 24th, 2019 at 9:45 AM ^
Rob Gronkowski says hello.
His blocking is a thing of beauty and is overshadowed by his route running and catching ability.
He is a weapon for unpredictability.
January 24th, 2019 at 9:48 AM ^
Solar Plexus Gronkowski agrees with this post.
What happened to Rib Gronkowski? In before the edit. Now not meaningful :(
January 24th, 2019 at 9:04 AM ^
We probably don't need more TEs at this current juncture, but I'd be shocked to see Gattis completely de-emphasize the position. We've seen throughout Harbaugh's time here that TEs create great mismatches (Gentry and Butt come to mind) so why wouldn't you want to utilize that?
Maybe Gattis doesn't utilize them as much as Harbaugh would (don't know, maybe he does, didn't watch Bama's offense too in depth this Fall), but they will still be a big part of the offense. They almost have to be.
January 24th, 2019 at 12:14 PM ^
Can't have enough good tight ends.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:37 AM ^
I think as this transfer thing blows up it could help distribute talent more evenly across the board. Of course, it will be frustrating for fans as they watch players that they are hopeful for bolt after a season or two.
January 24th, 2019 at 8:56 AM ^
Yeah there are some game changing implications from transfers becoming more frequent. Could level the playing field in some ways...could gut some programs. I like the kids to have choice of course but I also think about the time (and money) spent on their development.
It'll be interesting to see how this works out over the next few years. It most likely will accelerate the rise of programs who can use this tool to grab developed talent quickly.
January 24th, 2019 at 11:17 AM ^
Won't the rich just get richer? If you assume these guys are good enough to distribute talent, start with the assumption that they're good. They'll have the best options, just like high school kids. Sure they won't want to go to Alabama if they've got 11 other 5* OT's on the roster, but there are several other blue bloods. Chances are good that one of them would need a OT due to NFL departure, a weak class, transfers of their own, injury, etc. Why wouldn't these kids go to Michigan/UGA/Texas/OSU in those scenarios, instead of a lower tier program like Western or MSU?
January 24th, 2019 at 1:07 PM ^
The most desired players are mostly filling holes on strong teams. The playing time transfers may help other programs, but they also clear out space for new recruits. Often a win for the player and both teams. It would be interesting to see how many transfers are moving up vs moving down.
January 24th, 2019 at 9:08 AM ^
Illinois has 4 OL transferring? Rather odd.
January 24th, 2019 at 10:21 AM ^
And a TE, that’s almost a full lines worth.
January 24th, 2019 at 5:54 PM ^
South Alabama is close behind with 3
January 24th, 2019 at 9:14 AM ^
To all the detractors, see the evidence. Transfers happen, some are motivated by the distance from family, the difficulty of class, or money from boosters. It happens everywhere. Stop playing Chicken Lil' and realize the sky is not falling everytime someone transfers or leaves.
"Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish."

Love the JQA quote.
January 24th, 2019 at 2:56 PM ^
That's a great post, well written and thoroughly thought out.
January 24th, 2019 at 10:10 AM ^
Are there any tea leaves in the transfer portal? What does it mean that 11 PSU players are transferring? Illinois has 3 offensive linemen transferring out, but one transferring in from Alabama.
January 24th, 2019 at 10:28 AM ^
Is that list missing Nolan Ulizio who reportedly entered the transfer portal earlier this month? LINK Did he change his mind?
January 24th, 2019 at 1:01 PM ^
I'm guessing 247 doesn't have a direct feed from the NCAA's official portal, so they would have to update the page themselves. So the list could be incomplete due to error, timing, etc.
January 24th, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
The report I linked to is dated January 14 from The Michigan Insider on 247sports.com. They wouldn't need a direct feed from the NCAA's official transfer portal to know information from their own website that was reported ten days ago.

Blast from the past George Campbell.
January 24th, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
It's kind of amazing how long it takes coaches and scouts to notice a receiver has no hands. That seems kinda, you know, fundamental to the whole receiving thing.
January 24th, 2019 at 2:32 PM ^
Although George Campbell still has his hands, it seems that he hasn't used them very well to catch a football thrown in his direction,
