247Sports Transfer Portal

247Sports transfer portal is now live:

https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Football/TransferPortal/

Article with player list:

https://247sports.com/Article/NCAA-transfer-portal-names-players-destinations-127866941/

Their portal has where the players have decided to transfer.  For example, Solomon (Tenn) and Singleton (Rutger) which we already knew.  I was hoping M would recruit Luke Ford again, but he will be going home to Illinois.  The list does not distinguish between regular vs grad transfers.

Penn St has 11 players in it. How the F did the NCAA let this happen this way. That’s more then 10% of the scholarship players in the portal. Wow

Franklin is heading into his sixth year at Penn State. Any players left over from the Bill O'Brien era would've graduated/declared for the NFL no later than the end of the 2017 season, maybe 2018 season if they happened to have any sixth year students who got a medical redshirt after their fifth year.

This is all Franklin's team at this point.

That is A TON of guys. Does anyone know if this is way more than normal or if it just seems like it since we can now see it?

I’m surprised it’s not even larger.  Anyway, while they are at it, they should also formulate a “transfer” assistant coach list which charts/tracks their movement(s) as well....

We probably don't need more TEs at this current juncture, but I'd be shocked to see Gattis completely de-emphasize the position. We've seen throughout Harbaugh's time here that TEs create great mismatches (Gentry and Butt come to mind) so why wouldn't you want to utilize that?

Maybe Gattis doesn't utilize them as much as Harbaugh would (don't know, maybe he does, didn't watch Bama's offense too in depth this Fall), but they will still be a big part of the offense. They almost have to be.

I think as this transfer thing blows up it could help distribute talent more evenly across the board. Of course, it will be frustrating for fans as they watch players that they are hopeful for bolt after a season or two.

Yeah there are some game changing implications from transfers becoming more frequent.  Could level the playing field in some ways...could gut some programs.  I like the kids to have choice of course but I also think about the time (and money) spent on their development.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out over the next few years.  It most likely will accelerate the rise of programs who can use this tool to grab developed talent quickly.

Won't the rich just get richer?  If you assume these guys are good enough to distribute talent, start with the assumption that they're good.  They'll have the best options, just like high school kids.  Sure they won't want to go to Alabama if they've got 11 other 5* OT's on the roster, but there are several other blue bloods.  Chances are good that one of them would need a OT due to NFL departure, a weak class, transfers of their own, injury, etc.  Why wouldn't these kids go to Michigan/UGA/Texas/OSU in those scenarios, instead of a lower tier program like Western or MSU?

The most desired players are mostly filling holes on strong teams. The playing time transfers may help other programs, but they also clear out space for new recruits. Often a win for the player and both teams.  It would be interesting to see how many transfers are moving up vs moving down.

To all the detractors, see the evidence. Transfers happen, some are motivated by the distance from family, the difficulty of class, or money from boosters. It happens everywhere. Stop playing Chicken Lil' and realize the sky is not falling everytime someone transfers or leaves.

Are there any tea leaves in the transfer portal?  What does it mean that 11 PSU players are transferring?     Illinois has 3 offensive linemen transferring out, but one transferring in from Alabama.
