OT: Kliff Kingsbury to the Arizona Cardinals... as HC

Do the Cardinals have any fans? If so, they're probably pissed.

I don't know about that. Their whole fan base was ok with firing a coach after one year after being given minimal talent. Doesn't sound like their fan base is very football smart.

FWIW multiple reports that the Browns look like they're going to make Freddie Kitchens their next HC. Kitchens took over the offense once Jackson & Haley were fired and definitely clicks with Baker. I would be very happy with this move if it happens.

Seems a little underwhelming, doesn't it? Do you think that basically retaining everyone, post-Hue and post-Haley, will be enough to keep things growing over there?
I mean, they looked pretty good. But that can be a playoff roster next season.

Talk about failing forward

If you’re the owner of an NFL team and your GM wants you to fire the coach he just hired after only one season, then plops Kliff Kingsbury’s name on your desk - you fire him on the spot. Why would you trust this person to hire another coach? Insane.

Agree 100%.
The only question I have for you, is what if the dipshit is the owner? Who fires him? Asking for myself on behalf of the Bengals fan base.

Good to see Kingsbury pulling off the ol’ Lane Kiffin model: failing upward.
Flamed out at Texas Tech, and then somehow turning that into a head coaching gig in the NFL.

This just in, Brady Hoke to be announced as the new HC of the NY Jets.

Maybe he'll be available in two years and we can run an offense that's not from the 1950's.
January 9th, 2019 at 8:54 AM ^
congrats on creating yet another new account to type in yet another variation of the tired "our offense is bad" take.

Gotta start somewhere. Sorry to share the popular opinion.

Larry Foote, current Cardinals LB Coach, to Michigan????? Maybe? Hopefully?
January 8th, 2019 at 4:22 PM ^
The Cardinals are similar to the Lions in their personnel selection processes except they are for the birds...

Yeah, I never expected him to stay at USC. I will point out, though, that he anyone who complains about how kids should show loyalty to programs, Kingsbury undoubtedly recruited kids to USC while their OC and then bolted about a month later. I don't blame him, but there are guys who he straight-up lied to.

I think the opposite may be true. The adage “pick the school, not the coach” is more true than ever given the way coaches move without regard to the impact on their employer or players. As long as players don’t get a get out of jail free card when coaches leave they are betting that school will be able to find coaches that are good teachers and recruiters so as to keep the program moving forward.

Who has got it worse than us????
USC!!!
January 8th, 2019 at 5:17 PM ^
And MSU. We’re about 50 nut kicks better than MSU.
January 8th, 2019 at 7:58 PM ^
Seriously...when you read the public meltdown on USC message boards, it makes me feel better about our situation.
January 8th, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
Is Ann Arbor still in play?
January 8th, 2019 at 5:35 PM ^
Well now what style of offense do we refer to as pro style?
January 8th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
Not one where 42 of the 11 offensive players on the field are tight ends..... hah
January 8th, 2019 at 5:48 PM ^
So he’s not coming?
January 8th, 2019 at 5:52 PM ^
Probably because of the women.
January 8th, 2019 at 5:54 PM ^
The coaching carousel is spinning fast and furious. Music hasn't stopped yet.
January 8th, 2019 at 5:55 PM ^
so a young P5 college coach gets fired then is hired as a head coach in the NFL. well, ok. good luck with that. don't think i've ever heard anything close to that.
January 8th, 2019 at 6:01 PM ^
Who’s got it worse than Us....USC?
January 8th, 2019 at 6:41 PM ^
I did not see that coming. I thought someone might go outside the box and hire him as an NFL o.c., but I never thought someone would see a failed mid-tier college coach and see a future super bowl winner. I like that teams aren't just rehiring the same old retreads, but AZ and GB both seem to be going a little too far the other way. Good luck to them both. I'm sure both teams will be winning playoff games before my lions.

Only stupid Michigan fans thought Kingsbury would be an option for Harbaugh.
January 9th, 2019 at 8:51 AM ^
jeez, i get that you want to hire a young guy with potential, but give me a break. the guy took tommy tuberville's 8-5 team and went...8-5. i guess if you want a consistent 8-8, 9-7 nfl team, he's your guy.
kliff kingsbury = lane kiffin 2.0
January 9th, 2019 at 8:54 AM ^
Not sure I want to give him the Lane title yet, but a little loyalty would be nice to see. Don't get me wrong, coaching an NFL team might be his dream.... but OC of USC might be more glamorous than Arizona HC lol
