Zach Gentry to NFL Draft
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:02 AM ^
How was he utilized poorly? Of all the bitching today about how so-and-so should have been more involved, Gentry is probably the one player other than Higdon where that claim falls on its face. He was Shea's safety blanket.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:09 AM ^
Why am I having to explain that a 6'8 tight end should've been used in the redzone far more often than we used him? Gentry should've been a primary red zone target and he wasnt
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:33 AM ^
Uhhh... He was used pretty often in those situations early on and infamously in the OSU game. But the staff correctly found that DPJ and Collins were much better red zone targets.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
Zach Ertz 2.0 not burnt out and over used..i expect to excel in 1 year behind another league tight end then have his chance the following year. Sit behind a gates and learn a system and improve.

*shrugs*
January 1st, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
Best of luck. Never been a big fan of his, as drops just infuriate me. Still, he was a good player but I'm excited to have fresh faces atop the TE chart. Hopefully these guys are more made for the position, with better natural hands and blocking abilities. Looking at you, Muhammad.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:28 AM ^
If drops infuriate you how do you feel about Mckeon?
January 1st, 2019 at 11:18 PM ^
Good for him. It will be interesting to follow his career. Hopefully, he latches on with a more forward offense that moves their TEs around and doesnt require them to be inline a lot. He probably couldn't be entering the league at a better time.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:19 PM ^
This could be good for Harbaugh to use on the recruiting trail. He took a QB out of high school and turned him into an NFL TE
Im not worried in the slightest about losing him though. We need to focus most of our passing to our elite WR group. And Eubanks was actually pretty solid when he had balls thrown his way
January 1st, 2019 at 11:21 PM ^
It's Mustapha MotherFucking Muhammad time anyway
January 1st, 2019 at 11:22 PM ^
Good Luck to Gentry.
Kid has a ton of tools to work with; hopefully he's land somewhere that puts him to use
January 1st, 2019 at 11:37 PM ^
This may be good to our team as we might be forced to have a more WR heavy offense. Gentry would have been amazing as a senior IF USED CORRECTLY. He could be a matchup nightmare as a shift from our 3 big WRs. With them demanding a ton of attention on them he’d have favorable matchups. However, he would have been used as a #1 option too often which would mitigate his advantages.
Now we have Eubanks who is a better blocker and a decent pass catcher as a change of pace. This might actually work to our advantage simply because the staff will not use him as a #1 like they used Gentry.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:53 PM ^
I think Eubanks has the best hands of all the tight ends.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:52 PM ^
I think he needs 1-2 more years and he will turn into a really good player. He probably benefits more from going to the Nfl than staying at Michigan.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
So, we are still waiting on Hudson and Long’s decisions, right? Long is very likely headed to the NFL, but Hudson will probably stay. Missing anyone else?
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:27 AM ^
Hopefully Hudson stays. That would be a blow. He would be the vocal leader I think on the D. Showed it off against Florida. Expecting really big 19 year for him.
At this point, I’ll trade a Long to NFL for a Pep Sayonara. You still feeling good about this sort of swap lol?
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:46 AM ^
I haven't heard of this "Pep Sayonara" you speak of---is he a 5*? Where's he from? Does he have a Hudl video you can embed?
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:53 AM ^
Pep has been looking around the league. He was at the Detroit game for a reason. That was not a coincidence. Sorry Lions fans.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
Thanks. I am just baffled, like last year with Drevno. Has Harbaugh ever fired an assistant? Or does he just ask them to explore other options? I don’t recall any other coaches doing this.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:05 AM ^
Can't think of anybody else that has a decision.
January 2nd, 2019 at 10:45 AM ^
Long was at the Rose Bowl game last night.
January 1st, 2019 at 11:56 PM ^
We'll be alright
January 1st, 2019 at 11:59 PM ^
Congrats on the decision.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:06 AM ^
Got to wish him best of luck with his pro career. Will be interesting to see which teams drafts him and how he develops.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:11 AM ^
Wait, wait, wait, we had a 6'8 tight end, 3 all-American level wide receivers and a 5 star QB and out number on option on offense was Karan Higdon.
My God Harbaugh is a goofball
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:15 AM ^
Late brah.
Welcome to a 4th round selection and probably 500K in your bank account for most likely a 3yr washout NFL career. Hope you don't hate M too much for fucking up your whole life.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:54 AM ^
I'd take $500k in my bank account at 20-ish years old. And then another $500k per year for a 3 year career. Fuck, I'd take all that right now at 46. I have an engineering bachelor's degree from Michigan, a master's degree in engineering, and a decent job.
This is what fan boys don't understand. Get the money when you can. You can spend 35 years working at a job that your degree affords you and it might just equal the pay from a semi-productive 3-year NFL career.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:03 AM ^
4th rounders don't get 500K signing bonuses you dumb fuck. That would be his total pay for the average 3 year NFL career.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:07 AM ^
Was the insult necessary? If you were currently working for a non-profit, are you saying that you wouldn't leave your job on the spot to take a $200k salary tomorrow?
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:12 AM ^
Wow you're fucking dumb.
500K / 3 years = $167,000 per year for a three year career. If that can sustain you and yours for a lifetime congrats man.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:16 AM ^
Your and you're is second grade stuff. But I'm sure it was an iPhone auto correct error and not your fault.
Nice edit, BTW. I'm glad you caught that one error.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:20 AM ^
Corrected in about 20 seconds. You were obviously waiting to pounce.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:22 AM ^
The quality of your posts makes you second guess yourself.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:24 AM ^
Talk to me when Gentry is starting for an NFL team in his 4th year.
In the meantime get a job that pays more than 15K a year fuckstick.
January 2nd, 2019 at 6:46 AM ^
A 4th or 5th rd pick will sign a 4 year contract in the $2.5M - $3M range. That's a bit more cheddar than $167k/year. And that was based on 2016 contract values.
January 2nd, 2019 at 9:00 AM ^
If I was a 4th or 5th rounder with that contract, I would be ecstatic!
After a few years (if I wash out), there may be a few Michigan fans in the corporate world that would appreciate what I did for Michigan football and hire me.
No a bad career path. Just need to be humble, work hard, and appreciative. And keep clear of 'Harball sized HAIL', lest I be ridiculed at the water cooler ever day.
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:12 AM ^
4th rounders don't get 500K signing bonuses you dumb fuck. That would be his total pay for the average 3 year NFL career.
Dude, 4th rounders make a shit-ton more than 500k if they play for 3 years. Yes, 500k would be the approximate signing bonus. A 3 year career would net a 4th rounder out something around $2-2.5 million dollars probably. So, yeah, pretty ruined life.
https://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-draft-contract-values-2017-4
Once a player falls past the third round, most draft picks will sign a 4-year deal in the $2.4-2.9 million range. The only major difference late in the draft is the signing bonus, ranging from $400,000-600,000 in the fourth round to slightly more than $60,000 in the seventh round.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:54 AM ^
Pathetically bad comment: "...fucking up your whole life." Seriously?
I have to believe Gentry has been getting much better advice than anything you just said and besides, if he doesn't already have a Michigan degree in hand he almost certainly will soon.
I kinda like his plan.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:08 AM ^
Gentry had his pick of schools to go to. Do you not remember? Seems like every half witted fuck on this site knows every kids recruiting status from the time they're 12. Harbs brought him here and turned him into an OK TE. Yay. We got to watch Speight and O'Korn tho so that was good. Zach goes anywhere else and he's being drafted as the next NFL QB for their franchise.
January 2nd, 2019 at 5:32 AM ^
And you know this to be true...how?
And if that was the case, why wouldn't a future franchise QB transfer - especially in a climate where QBs are transferring at a higher rate than in the history of the effing sport.
You mean to tell me BOTH guys you mentioned...John O'Korn and Wilston Speight transfer to get PT and "showcase their skills," but Gentry was just like..."okay, I'm an NFL QB, but gee golly...I'll grab a number in the 80's and start blocking."
If that's the case, then 1. He's an idiot and 2. NO ONE on this Blog should fault him for ANYTHING because he truly gave up being an NFL franchise QB (your words) to try and help his TEAM and this program.
So you all pick one, because I'm seeing right through you.
January 2nd, 2019 at 8:18 AM ^
So his worst-case scenario is entering the non-professional sports world of work with zero school debt AND a $500k cushion? Poor guy.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:24 AM ^
I don’t really get it. He has the potential to be a solid TE. But he is still so raw. His run after catch ability is lacking right now. His blocking is still developing.
These are all things he should stay and work on.
January 2nd, 2019 at 9:18 AM ^
The NFL is probably better equipped to develop players because its a full time job. I don't see a way that he gets into the first round, so it's probably a good time for him to jump especially considering an injury would cripple his stock.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:27 AM ^
I don’t agree with his decision but I wish him the best of luck. I think he should come back for one more year. He would make a huge jump in the draft with another good year. I can’t see him going any better than 4th round right now.
January 2nd, 2019 at 12:28 AM ^
Good luck.
Really was hoping he’d return, he was a total mismatch and becoming a really good weapon. Next year he could have really been something.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:12 AM ^
Good luck, Zach! Wish you would have stayed one more year though.
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:46 AM ^
1.6% of all college football players, Make it to the NFL.. Good luck to Gentry and those current players who sat out a meaningless bowl game to advance their careers..go blue..
January 2nd, 2019 at 1:52 AM ^
Oh no! who will drop 3 passes, including a touchdown against Ohio State, now?
January 2nd, 2019 at 2:34 AM ^
Good luck
