Tarheels take down 'Zags!
And it wasn't close!
Sure, it was on UNC's home floor, but this really puts the UM win in perspective. NC is a *tough* team, and to handle another tough team in Gonzaga the way they did. Combine that with 'Nova taking Kansas down to the wire today in Lawrence, and it's probably time to start thinking Michigan may actually be the best team in the country.
Obviously, the "Transitive property of basketball" doesn't exist, but the evidence is piling up.

Damn...makes me wish Nova won today even more.
December 15th, 2018 at 9:14 PM ^
Nope. But maaaaaaybe

Clarence Boddicker and XM were wondering how many offspring a drop bear can have.

"...and it's probably time to start thinking Michigan may actually be the best team in the country."
You mean you weren't thinking that already? Dude - you were on your own without that thought!
December 15th, 2018 at 9:15 PM ^
I've been hurt before, man.
December 15th, 2018 at 9:17 PM ^
They looked average today.
December 15th, 2018 at 9:30 PM ^
Or maybe WMU is the third best team in the country. Behind NW of course.
December 15th, 2018 at 9:55 PM ^
So what? Kansas is barely beating NMSU, Stanford, and Nova. They get the 1 spot. Tennessee lost. Duke lost. Gonzaga lost twice.
Every team has played bad but of the remaining undefeated teams we look the best
Michigan has just as much of a case as anybody to be ranked #1
December 15th, 2018 at 10:54 PM ^
Are you maizens dumber half brother?
December 15th, 2018 at 9:18 PM ^
Maybe. But 3 pretty blah games in a row now. Anxious to see what we can do next time we face another real challenge.
December 15th, 2018 at 10:46 PM ^
@Wisconsin coming to a hood near you...W in the Kohl center.
December 15th, 2018 at 9:22 PM ^
Except for the fact that we've played poorly ourselves the past 3 games.
December 15th, 2018 at 9:39 PM ^
So is Purdue just poop now? They're 6-5 and have lost five of the last seven. They look like they had a tough non conference schedule but watching them play looks like they've completely devolved to hero ball. What should be the expectation in big ten play? Still a tourney team or not enough pieces?
December 16th, 2018 at 10:16 AM ^
Not enough pieces. You take care of Carsen Edwards and you have a great shot against Purdue.
December 15th, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
Michigan should be #1. #2 AT LEAST
Kansas squeaked by Nova who we beat by 27. Kansas barely beat NMSU by 3 and had to go to overtime vs Stanford
Gonzaga lost to UNC by double digits who we beat by 17. Their 2nd loss in a row
Tennessee has a loss and its not like they beat down Memphis today. Also their win over Gonzaga isn't as great as it seemed at the time considering the Zags are now a 2 loss team
Duke has a loss to Gonzaga
The disrespek smh

You cry babies can say all you want about the team not beating up on Western today but I saw Davis do some good things and X hit 3 of 4 from downtown. Add those two positives with the win and who gives a shit. As long as Michigan keeps winning, their big win against UNC will really help down the stretch. It is hard to get up for lesser opponents and we all know they bring their best games against Michigan. So I mean, that's not a recipe for an ass whooping in any universe. The great thing about Beilein's teams is that they get better and better as the year goes on or down the homestretch. That seems like a pretty fucking cool thing to me while they are sitting undefeated and a projected #1 seed.
December 15th, 2018 at 10:51 PM ^
This.
It's surreal to me that people are down on the team's performance today. It's the beginning of a 3-game cupcake stretch after a 4-game stretch against Power 5 schools. We were about due for a letdown. And yet we still won fairly comfortably, despite an off night by our leading scorer. In the second half, the game was never really in doubt. And we're still undefeated, and will likely move up a spot in the next set of polls on Monday.
So to hell with all the negativity. We're 11-0. Beilein uber alles.
December 15th, 2018 at 11:48 PM ^
Agreed. All teams will have some bad games in this sport, but Michigan has weathered all storms so far and has yet to lose. There's a strong case for #1 to be made.
December 15th, 2018 at 10:31 PM ^
Back to back B1G champs, 25-1 over the past 26 including NCAA runners up, 3 quadrant 1 wins...
December 15th, 2018 at 10:31 PM ^
Ohio almost lost today, which would have made it all extra special. But you're right, transitive doesn't work in this case, but overall strength of teams we've beaten already makes us look pretty darn good right now!
December 15th, 2018 at 10:32 PM ^
UNC now up to #5 in Kenpom as we drop to #6.
December 15th, 2018 at 10:40 PM ^
live by the kenpom, die by the kenpom
December 16th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
KenPom also has 6-5 Purdue at #18. I think I'm just going to ignore KenPom until the preseason rankings finally stop affecting it.
December 16th, 2018 at 12:18 AM ^
Is Western the second best team in the country?
December 16th, 2018 at 9:22 AM ^
Hell no. They're at least behind Northwestern.
December 16th, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
I don't care if Michigan is the best team in the country right now. I want them to keep developing into one of the top four teams in the country come March time... Then on the biggest stage, put it all together and make a run at a National Championship. IMO, that's what the college basketball season is all about.
December 16th, 2018 at 10:33 AM ^
The rankings will sort themselves out in the long run. Just keep improving and beating the teams in front of you. This isn't college football, there is a tournament the best teams will be evident as the season plays out.
December 16th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
absolutely NC is a tough team. They are a blue blood, elite program. They have been for a while. That's what makes Michigan's blowout of them so incredible. People just don't do that to them. Beat them, yes, blow them out? Not very often.
