Wow. I guess the crowd here really dislikes Def Leppard.

They are one of 5 rock bands to have two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the US (the other four are Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Van Halen).

They are still touring, and not like KISS who are their 20th goodbye tour, but Def Leppard is still rocking hard, are touring with other strong acts, and tickets are reasonably priced.

I don't see how people can be so dismissive of such a popular band who have had 40+ years of success.

They're right there with Bob Dylan, Genesis, David Bowie, and Chicago in total record sales. I'm glad they're finally in the HoF.

I've always thought that they should just change the name to some (better) variation of 'popular music hall of fame' or whatever, because that's what it is. I have a sore spot against them because they artists they induct (instead of worthy rock bands) doesn't fit the name of the institution. Yes, I realize my personal feelings on it don't really matter at all.

LL Cool J didn't get in. I grew up on rap, and I dunno, he doesn't feel like he's at that level. Taking from a similar age (we are now looking at 80s into the early 90s given the other nominees and people that got in): Wu-Tang, NAS, Eric B. and Rakim, Juice Crew (Kool G Rap, Biz Markee, Kool G Rap), KRS-One, Outcast (maybe a little early) all seem better picks. I dunno LL was good, will probably end up getting in and it won't be terrible, but feel like there are other rap groups of that era equally or more influential (but maybe didn't have the cross over appeal of LL)

Happy to see the Zombies and Roxy Music make it.

Always felt the Zombies were underrated in a similar way to The Kinks, but the Kinks kept going and justified their legendary status and the Zombies became ... Argent. There is an interesting link between the two bands in that bass player Jim Rodford was around for the original Zombies though not a member, then was an original in Argent before becoming the longest tenured bass player for the Kinks and then going back as part of the Zombies revival. RIP Jim.

Bryan Ferry was the quintessentially cool front man with Roxy Music, and though somewhat unfairly associated with club music, they had some great musicians in the group.

Definitely was into Def Leppard in 1987, when I was too young to know things like "Rocket" was a blatant bastardization of a Velvet Underground song, with zero irony or wit.

Interestingly enough, while I do like Def Leppard and Radiohead very much, I despise both the Smiths and Nickelback.  Def Leppard is an outlier when it comes to my music tastes.  I know they're cheesy, but they were my first taste of rock growing up and I'll always love them for it.

To me, Def Leppard represents the intersection of shitty bubblegum 80s music and heavy metal. They were entertaining, have a fun/catchy sound that never ceases to make me smile. Yet their music has all the depth of a mud puddle in the Sahara. They just didn’t have anything to say which is why I equate them to 80s bubblegum music.

Probably has a lot to do with my age and not being quite old enough to appreciate much from the 80s music that was popular. The “alternative”/“grunge” revolution or whatever you wanna call it couldn’t have come at a better time for me.

All that being said, if motherfucking Hall & Oats is in, then Def Leppard absolutely belongs.

And any of you making fun of Radiohead can eat a whole bag of dicks.

If it’s not apparent, I say all of this light heartedly, I love these type debates with intelligent folks which I consider most of you to be. We all have different tastes, doesn’t make us wrong. Unless you like Kiss, then you are a dickwad.

They didn't have anything to say on "Pyromania," "Hysteria," or "Adrenalize" because that was the point. They placed all the emphasis on music and melody, and the lyrics we're purposefully shallow and nonsensical.

If you want better lyrical content, check out their "Retroactive" and "Slang" albums. The music is a lot darker and the lyrics more meaningful. Those albums are seen as a departure from the traditional Def Leppard sound, which is probably why they didn't sell a whole lot.

I was (I guess I still am) a big fan of Pyromania, but when Hysteria came out when I was in high school, I hated that album.  It was huge, but I couldn't stand how over produced the music was and how it was terribly over played.

Def Leppard, radiohead, janet Jackson, but no Joe Cocker, no Harry Nilsson, no Moody Blues, no Dire Straights? Fucking joke. Should call it the pop music hall of fame instead.

Lost in all the Def Leppard talk, was that The Cure will also be inducted.

I have always loved them since the early 80s when I first found rock and roll. I like some existentialism in music, so they fit the bill. I will be honest and assumed they were already in.
