Per Sam: Battle for Dax Hill may not be over

Submitted by ThatGuyCeci on December 11th, 2018 at 1:38 PM

Per Sam Webb last night on TMI and again today on the recruiting roundup, the race for Dax Hill MAY not be over. Sam cautions fans to stop with the accusations of extra benefits, one because it’s indecent, and two because of self-interest (so you’re saying there’s a chance?). So while we are all collectively upset about what went down, all hope is not lost. Sam also mentioned Aubrey Solomon as a precedent. It’s not necessarily the exact same situation, but there are definitely parallels. Take it FWIW.

They prefer to shoot the messenger than accept that high school aged kids who are being pursued lavishly by some of the highest profile names in our society (for better or worse) can be fickle.

We will see what happens, but I trust Sam is sharing the truth as he knows it. If it happens to keep him employees, so be it.

Wishful thinking, and not getting my hopes up, but I wonder what, if any, connection this has with Harbaugh's need to clarify his future publicly? Someone got in Hill's ear about his future with the program perhaps?

Hill was the last straw for me.  I will check back on signing day, but no longer will assume anyone who pledges anywhere, even after a careful evaluation process, is actually going there until he signs.

This feels like the scene in Billy Madison where the two kids explain to Adam Sandler's character that he is in loser denial.  I'm sure stranger things have happened but I'm not holding my breath.

I’ve moved on. Frankly we’ve had the number one recruit in Rashan Gary and that didn’t take us to the promised land.

As good as Dax is he isn’t going to magically make us a playoff team by himself. It’s going to take a team effort and we’re going to have to get the monkey off our back and beat OSU with whoever wants to play for Michigan.

We’ll be fine either way.

Mods please delete this.  It's over the same way an ex says "I'm just so confused right now." This is making UM look ridiculous.

I know Sam says it's not over but

It's over.

And since when is saying that a school who gives out money to recruits via a well orchestrated series of bag man on the regular considered "indecent"?

Please don't tell me Sam thinks Alabama doesnt pays recruits.   Or is just in polite society we're suppose to not say anything about it?  Like when your out on a date with a pretty girl and she farts?

You mean like when I picked Michigan to beat OSU?  Or when I picked us to beat MSU, PSU & Wisconsin?  Nothing negative there. As a matter of fact the only game I picked us to lose all year was Notre Dame....imagine that.

Look if you'd like to believe there's a chance he's going to flip back have at it.  Based on watching recruits for over 50 years and having actually recruited for Michigan myself for three years I'd place the probability of that happening at less than 1% but hey....there's still a chance right?

And based on virtually every other comment in this thread I'm not alone in thinking he's not coming back.  Does than make everybody else negative too?

Reality sucks doesnt it.

Sam never said he's coming back.   Is he supposed to report he's still being pursued by Michigan?   Obviously he has somewhat of a relationship with the dad.  If the dad told him he's a 100% Alabama it's over he wouldn't have said that.  The dad may be pulling his leg but he can't know that.  If you were him what would you have reported?

You don’t know who Sam talked to. He could be talking to a coach from here who said “We’re still pursuing him!” Doesn’t mean Dax is open to coming back. Like I stated before Sam is a great dude, but we’ve all seen this before with high profile 5-star recruits. And it seemingly always falls around this time of year.

It is a very strange recruitment. Remember, he committed just a couple of weeks after the ND game. It's not like Michigan was a top 10 team at the time that he committed. And the bagman was presumably on the table all along. And then the coaches went in home with him just two days before he flipped, and THEY found out about it the same way the rest of us did. So why didn't they say anything to the coaches at the in home visit?

If I had to guess, the family has their "reasons," whatever they are, and they have taken extra steps to ensure it never gets out, so they've decided to just flip and end it there.

Sam does this every year around this time. You'll say "what about Aubrey Solomon?" I will respond with "what about Najee Harris, Malik McDowell, Seantrel Henderson, Reuben Foster, Fournette, [insert any random 5* Michigan communicated with in the last several years]".

Webb offers valuable information. You just need a special filter to decipher it properly.

This one is slightly different though. Sam started his piece about Hill by noting that he hasn't spoken with ANYONE in Hill's camp. Not him or his family. I feel like they are avoiding talking to the media on purpose. Probably because they don't feel like dealing with the backlash from fans. So Sam stating that there's still a chance is simply an artifact of the fact that he hasn't spoken to them yet and so he therefore doesn't know for sure.

I think these kids should not commit until it is an actual commitment.  All of the flipping is ridiculous - these aren't commitments but rather just current leans.
