He actually resigned several weeks ago, but he didn’t think he had to report it to the school.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
Meyer resigned, but forgot the next day, so he came to work as per usual and the administration was OK with it because they care about winning more than anything.

There was a glitch in the payroll system and he just kept getting $250,000 checks. Gene Smith “fixed the glitch”
December 4th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
Does he get to keep his stapler?
December 4th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
There was some confusion on the issue because he deleted the text.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
He meant to send it via text before the season but deleted it.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
He did tell Gene Smith, however, who checked with the Powell OH police department who found no record of the event.

I'm interested to see if the coaching staff can remain intact. Transitions like these usually involve the coaching staff remaining to support the new coach and keep the machine running. It may be a difficult job for Day if he has to replace his coordinators. Are Schiano and Wilson really the type to stick around?
December 4th, 2018 at 2:45 PM ^
Two guys that have been head coaches and clearly would want to be head coaches again. Do they hang around a year or two to see if Day implodes? With all the HC job openings filling up, their names aren't floating around out there as candidates....unless I missed something.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:16 PM ^
Are either of them past the time where people forget about their transgressions while coaching?
Schiano was dumped by Tennessee before he could be hired. His coaching tenure at Penn State is forever tainted. Wilson was obnoxious to his players. Reminds me of Durkin.
December 4th, 2018 at 5:47 PM ^
Except Durkin had a kid die.
December 4th, 2018 at 7:35 PM ^
So did Brian Kelly; it's not a deal breaker at every school.

Meyer's new role within the department.

Freaky, the guy in the pic looks like me.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
MGoBlog: still the perennial home for all threads analyzing Urban's facial expressions and general demeanor.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:31 PM ^
You’d be pissed too if you had to give up your dream job because of medical reasons. Just ask Ace.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
Did you watch Ace's farewell video? Pissed is not a word I would have chosen to describe his demeanor. Sad, and appreciative of all the support he was receiving from the mgocommunity.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
Sad, pissed, bumbed, angry to an extent, all are feelings when something you hold dear is taken away from you. Yes I watched Ace’s video. Yes I gave to his cause. And yes I understand that this is not a dissimilar situation to some extent.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
I thought his dream job was Notre Dame?
December 4th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
And Michigan
December 4th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
I don't know. Did you?
December 4th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
It will be, in a couple of years.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
Well, Brett McMurphy nailed it - he said back when Meyer was reinstated that he'd be shocked if he were coaching there next year.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
So did Cowherd. 11 Warriors was beside themselves, claiming thay they were both full of shit. Now? Now they're blaming Mcmurphy and saying that his shoddy reporting was too hard on Urban and wore him out and that's why he's leaving.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
Yet, honest Urban just stated after The Game that he would be coaching next year.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ^
can anyone recall what his exit was like at UF? was it as lackluster as this?
December 4th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
I recall it very similar. Urbz saying he was leaving only because of medical reasons. The AD saying Meyer would stick around the Department as an advisor, as needed. As soon as OSU waved the big paychecks around, Urbz amazingly recovered his health and immediately trundled up to Columbus.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
They were 8-5. It was a year after Tebow left. He claimed health problems then (but it was probably co-ed problems).
To note, he left Utah the same year Alex Smith did. JT left after last season, when his 10 years of eligibility were up, and now Urban is gone. Seems like a trend for him, once the QB that ran his offense leaves, he's not far behind.
December 4th, 2018 at 4:08 PM ^
He said he would coach as long as he could. He said he expected to coach next year. But instead, he couldn't and therefore he won't. Not that Urban would lie. Doublespeak yes, mislead yes, lie, no.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
This does not surprise me one bit. When the suspension was announced and he was forced to apologize to Courtney not once, but twice, he looked about the same as he did today.
My guess is they agreed to give him one last year during their super-secret meeting before the season started but then he had to "retire" from coaching. He agreed provided Day takes over and he gets his full contract paid out (no termination for cause).
This is great fun. OSU should do this more than once every seven years.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:58 PM ^
Wait, are they really paying out his contract?
December 4th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
I honestly wonder if he’s looking pissed today because he thought the win over UM and B1G championship would make everything better but the board wasn’t having it.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
December 4th, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
They won't win as many games as they did under Meyer. I'd guarantee that. The guy's win percentage was nearly ten-percent better than Tressel's.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
People can complain about Harbaugh not winning the big game. But, I wouldn't trade him in a million years for Urban Meyer. Winning is not worth everything. That said, we will win anyway.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Loser denial.
December 4th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
agreed. What's the point after the NCAA takes away all the wins for cheating anyway.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
Yeah, completely agree. It is sad what people are willing to do to win something, not caring what they lose.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
Maybe you should take these quotes and start a company making posters that companies put in their conference rooms.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
Great Idea! We'll send some free samples for the OSU meeting rooms...
December 4th, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
Yes, in Columbus the company is called "Hooked on Phonics."
December 4th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Makes one wonder what they actually found during the investigation. I mean, they probably released what they found surrounding Zach, but they probably uncovered some other dirt.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
What they released in the report was already really ugly. I was amazed he was retained after all that.
December 4th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
You shouldn’t be amazed by the reactions of a POS institution that measures itself by its hatred of Michigan
December 4th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
Same here. But, there were some clear omissions. Not even attempting to track down the texts.. I am guessing they tracked em down but buried them and this is the outcome of the real investigation.
