Teams can't play in the same bowl as the year before with an at large bid. UCF was in the peach last year, hence the selection.

Don't think that's true (though I did hear the Peach Bowl chair didn't want UCF back for a second year in a row - can't confirm or deny), but even if it was true, I'm guessing Michigan, Florida AND LSU fans would all have preferred UCF-Florida in the Fiesta Bowl, and Michigan-LSU in the Peach Bowl.

4 p.m., Cotton Bowl, AT&T Stadium, Dallas, TX, ESPN
No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Oklahoma (CFP Semifinal)
8 p.m., Orange Bowl, Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, FL, ESPN
So, not only are we playing Florida -- AGAIN -- our game will be completely overshadowed by both semifinal games taking place on the same day.

We get to beat up an SEC team in an important recruiting ground. We can get the young guys more practice and see chase and Bush and hopefully Gary one last time.

The team laid an absolute egg and relegated itself into a who-gives-a-fuck matchup that will do zero for recruiting or going into next season unless we get blown the fuck out. It's an absolute lose-lose. Nobody cares about the Peach Bowl unless it's a G5 team. This is not good by pretty much any standard. We have a right to be annoyed that the season and any reasonable amount of excitement is completely buried now.

Sure, that's technically true. But playing in a dome in Atlanta in a bowl game with no significant history against an opponent nobody's excited about and we've already played twice in the last 4 years is about as bad as it gets for making a NY6 bowl game. I'm usually not one to act like an asshole and I tell you the truth that I didn't freak out after the Notre Dame loss. But the end of this season has been completely demoralizing as a Michigan football fan. The only good I can glean from it is a chance for Harbaugh to get that elusive 11th win, but even then, the narrative is going to be that Michigan didn't beat an actual good team the entire season.

This sucks so bad. Yes Florida beat LSU head to head but they lost to Georgia (who LSU beat) and didn’t have to play Alabama (which LSU and Georgia did). I don’t understand why the Peach Bowl just by default selected UF. Basically, if UM played LSU I would have paid good money to get into that game. But not now. Also, what about Washington State? I feel like they deserved a NY6 bid over the fourth freaking SEC team. I would have booted Florida out of the mix, so it would have been UCF-WSU in the Fiesta and LSU-UM in the Peach. Way better. Bowls are stupid.
This extra-sucks because OSU knocked us out of the playoff and then because they played so shitty all year except for against us, they knocked us out of the Rose Bowl too by not making the goddamned playoff either.

I'm with you, but sadly, the reality is they are not interested in creating interesting matchups or awarding the most deserving teams. It's ALL about trying to maximize their revenue as they see it. It's all about the money and nothing but the money.

Here is the thing, I get the sense that while the SEC will tear itself apart in the regular season, behind closed doors they are really united as a conference to project their self interests.
However, with the Big Ten, I get the sense that we support each other outwardly but behind closed doors we have a ton of infighting and bitterness, not supporting the conference for the greater good.
Guarantee the SEC people in the room banded together to prevent UCF playing Florida. Big Ten probably bitched and moaned they were left out of the Playoff and said fuck it, who cares
