Crisler tonight
I've had season tickets for 20 years and, while Crisler can get an unfair rap, it isn't always the toughest place to play for visiting teams. So I was impressed tonight for a 9:30 game to see the place full or close to it, and the crowd going nuts (after the Matthews' dunk it really got going). It reminded me of some of the battles in 2013 (OSU and MSU especially that year), and the Duke game in 2008. Anyway, it was a great win, this is a fun team to watch and I hope the crowds keep showing up.

The second half sequence of two consecutive thunderblocks was great, the crowd absolutely exploded for that. If they would've gotten a third, I think Dickie V would've gone into cardiac arrest babyyyyyy
November 29th, 2018 at 1:09 AM ^
Man, now I REALLY wish they would've gotten that third thunderblock...

Imagine if Thierry Gilardi were 80 years old and still announcing ;).
November 29th, 2018 at 9:42 AM ^
I seriously wish he would still be alive :(!
It kinda still hurts.

Hey MgF, lots of great pictures in your flikr album from last night's game.
Thanks for posting!
November 29th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Thanks - Sorta easy when the team play like that!
November 29th, 2018 at 12:45 AM ^
I second that!
November 29th, 2018 at 1:00 AM ^
Whoa, 2013? When Trey picked Appling's pocket and took it in for the dunk and the lead! That *steal* gets me fired up!
November 29th, 2018 at 1:08 AM ^
I've watched that replay more than once. What an amazing moment!
November 29th, 2018 at 10:11 AM ^
As they say, "I see what you did there."
November 29th, 2018 at 1:03 AM ^
I was there too! In from Houston today and at the game. I second this... great crowd, into it all night, loud and definitely an awesome atmosphere! Go Blue!
Only minor complaint is so many Michigan fans leaving with multiple minutes left, and that includes tons of the students/young crowd. It's already late, just stick around with the rest of us, even up big with 3 minutes to go. Enjoy this team and show them some love. I do get it though, late game mid-week is tough.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:31 AM ^
Cant really fault people for leaving late in the game with Michigan up 15 and its like 1130 on a Wednesday night
November 29th, 2018 at 6:28 AM ^
Yeah, and if it gets too late the wife falls asleep.
November 29th, 2018 at 8:00 AM ^
You could always just wake her up. That always never works for me.
November 29th, 2018 at 5:18 AM ^
It’s a Wednesday night and at that point it was after 11 pm. People have jobs and have classes in the morning. I absolutely do not fault a single person for leaving a game early that is already decided.
I live an hour north of Ann Arbor and I get up for work at 4:30 in the morning. If I were at the game I’d have been looking at getting home around 12:30, and by the time I settled in and went to bed it’d be nearly 1 am and I’d be in for a nice 3 1/2 hour cat nap before work.
If you want students and fans to stick around for a big game, don’t schedule it at 9:30 on a weekday. I get that’s what the TV people wanted, but you can’t bitch about the crowd at that point. People have lives to live that don’t revolve around college basketball and watching the final minutes (which usually take quite a bit longer than a few minutes) of a blowout and then expect them to deal with traffic on top of it.
Games over. Have work or class in the morning, get out of there as soon as you can.

almost bought a ticket last night. really bummed that i didn't, it looked like a ton of fun. won't make that mistake again!
November 29th, 2018 at 8:57 AM ^
I almost bought stock in a fruit company in the late 80's that looks like it would have paid off well - bummer.

Blackberries?
November 29th, 2018 at 1:07 AM ^
I can say on TV it gave me goose bumps watching it and hearing the crowd. Dickie V made it better. He is a homer for us as far as I'm concerned. And hearing a guy who can't sing with a darn sing HTTY (Hail to the Victors) was so cool.
Hey...give JH another year before bashing him vs. OSU. JB took over a mess, too. And now we are kings of hoops!
GO F-ing Blue!!!!!!!!
November 29th, 2018 at 1:25 AM ^
Lolwut. Dickie V is awful (repeats the same stupid phrases over and over), and was constantly slurping UNC while they were getting spanked. Then sang Notre Dame's fight song. Dude is a certified knob-goblin.
November 29th, 2018 at 1:28 AM ^
He's like Lee Corso - respect him for the past (Dickie has been a big UM fan mostly) and accept that his brain is getting mushier.
November 29th, 2018 at 1:31 AM ^
If his brain is getting mushier, shouldn't they take him off TV and not allow him to humiliate himself?
November 29th, 2018 at 7:05 AM ^
I don't love listening to him for a while game, but sheesh, he's not humiliating himself. He's having a ton of fun doing what he loves. Same with Corso.
November 29th, 2018 at 11:41 PM ^
They are entertainers. They know what they are doing.
They are very good in that role.
November 29th, 2018 at 7:33 AM ^
I prefer Dickie V over Corso. Vitale can still string together coherent thoughts without stuttering or slurring words.
November 29th, 2018 at 8:09 AM ^
Corso had a stroke a few years back, that's why he slurs words and has trouble organizing thoughts. The entire crew helps him out because GameDay is now what his life revolves around, and they love him. Suck it up...
November 29th, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
exactly. sometimes you just gotta just embrace the fact that this - all of it - is pretty silly and disposable. give in to the fun part of it.
November 29th, 2018 at 11:12 AM ^
This is a great post, matty blue. I wish more people could/would buy into this perspective. It's ALL silly (bread & circuses), so embrace the silliness.
November 29th, 2018 at 8:58 AM ^
If he’s talking up UNC while they’re getting whooped by Michigan then isn’t that a good thing for us? I say yes
November 29th, 2018 at 9:21 AM ^
HE'S A PTP'r !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 29th, 2018 at 8:11 AM ^
He wasn't so much pimping Michigan as he was acknowledging an ongoing ass-kicking. He was all over UNC all night, telling us how every kid off Williams' bench was a HS superstar. He never once said anything like that about Michigan. And then he sang ND's fight song - for what? He lost me last night...
BTW, the title is simply "The Victors".
November 29th, 2018 at 11:50 AM ^
Yeah singing Notre Dames fight song was aggravating but him talking high about unc and their stars highlighted the fact that what Michigan was doing was something special.
November 29th, 2018 at 1:08 AM ^
Love watching Matthews laugh in an opponent's face. Don't ever stop, you badass.
November 29th, 2018 at 1:20 AM ^
The best is when the ref has to pull him aside to warn him, then he just takes that and lights up the court. THEN he keeps running his mouth and finally coach has to have an aside with him, to only have him make more great plays. He and Iggy were exchanging laughs through it all.
November 29th, 2018 at 5:35 AM ^
It looked good on the tube. Refs should have whistled #4 for the untucked shirt, or is that just the NBA?
November 29th, 2018 at 8:15 AM ^
That UNC kid (Leaky Black) had got right in Simpson's face after a bucket, which is why Matthews went over to him. Black bumped into him, looked at him, then looked and walked away. Matthews smiled the rest of the night. Dude is stone cold and had his teammates back!!
But something tells me that Simpson could hold his own in that fight...
November 29th, 2018 at 12:33 PM ^
Love seeing him just laugh at dudes. This whole team has an attitude that's fun to watch. If they stay focused all season they can do some special things. Can't wait to watch.
November 29th, 2018 at 1:11 AM ^
Crisler is becoming intimidating too now?!
BASKETBALL. SCHOOL.
November 29th, 2018 at 1:27 AM ^
I'm just hoping we start selling out for the game vs. Bradley, etc.
Then it would be complete fulfillment.
FWIW: TGIF for the heart/other surgeon who kept JB alive with his procedure!
November 29th, 2018 at 1:23 AM ^
Makes me so happy we got the best WVU coach possible - and for hoops!
November 29th, 2018 at 1:33 AM ^
I had only one regret about tonight ... I am stupid and I forget my hear plugs!!!
that was something.
November 29th, 2018 at 2:28 AM ^
You're right! I didn't realize how loud it was there until I got outside and I felt like I was leaving a concert.
MG! Saw your photos from tonight -- they were amazing! I sincerely appreciate your work and am lucky to cheer for a team that you cover. Thanks!
November 29th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
Thank you "Mediaunion".
That my dear is a heck of a nice word :).
November 29th, 2018 at 1:47 AM ^
Great to hear. They were saying it was loud and obviously the crowd looked pretty fired up, but it's always a bit hard to tell how loud it really is watching on TV. Depends how loud they wanna make it on the broadcast. They did mention the time no one heard the whistle on the dunk (I think that's the Matthews' dunk you're referring to).
I also don't think I've seen so many famous spectators at a game in Crisler. That has to look good for recruits watching on TV when Crisler becomes a premier basketball destination.
November 29th, 2018 at 1:52 AM ^
Very impressive considering a 9:30 tip is extremely late for a weekday game. Most of the fans probably didn’t get home til well after midnight.
November 29th, 2018 at 3:35 AM ^
Checking in here as a season ticket holder.
We got home at about 1:30am. Still can't sleep.
Thank God this game was right after what we just experienced this past weekend with Football.

Name checks out.
Kudos to you.
