4* RB commit Eric Gray no longer visiting this weekend

Headed to Tennessee instead. Michigan might part ways per Steve Lorenz. Sucks as he's the #1 all purpose back in the nation and a top 100 recruit on 247. His competition isn't the greatest but his stats are absolutely bonkers.

And I'm laughing at how seriously you take this message board stuff. I'd like to have productive conversations with people here but it seems some people including you are incapable of that. I've asked you nicely to stop doing something and you won't which shows the emotional maturity of an adolescent, so engaging with you in the future is something I'm just not going to do or when I do it won't be pleasant. Whether that bothers you or not I don't really care but given your fervent activity on this board it probably will. It would do you good to step away from the keyboard every once in awhile and interact with actual people.

If you think I'm a steady stream of negativity, I'd suggest you take a closer look at my posting history and you'd find that's not the case. The reason I get perturbed about the maizen stuff is not because it's inaccurate (even though it is) but because it derails threads and allows people to argue about the person making the point rather than the point they are making. I think getting upset at someone's POV on a message board wether positive or negative is the most beta male thing in the world. It's a sports blog, but people here act like points and commentary that fits their world view are so damn important. It's quite hilarious to sit back and watch unfold.

I'll never understand the world of recruiting and what makes one place more appealing vs. another. I'm an out of shape, middle aged man who has never played football in my life (soccer and hockey here, and only in high school).

If I was looking for a team, I'm not 100% certain I would want to deal with strong competition in the class, or moving 10 hours away right out of high school. And I'm not saying anything about this recruit, just making simple statements. Honestly, it is remarkable these kids can make the decisions they do when in comparison, I was just happy to hit DejaVu up when I turned 18.

If he leaves the class, I wish him well wherever he ends up. If he sticks around, I will welcome him to the best university in the country.

Yeah, nuts on him for having interest in his home state school where he could get early time and be the guy in a situation where he could help turn the team around!

What exactly is the definition of an "all purpose back"? I see some fairly loose definitions when I google it -- a running back who can stay on the field in all situations, good football i.q., not necessarily a burner but shifty, sometimes a bit undersized -- is that about right?

Yeah, pretty much. There aren't a lot of backs nowadays who aren't APBs, just because of how pass heavy most offenses are, but APBs to me are guys who can run routes out of the backfield and catch and maybe even be motioned out of the backfield to a receiver position. Like you said, guys you don't have to take off the field based on playcall or personnel.

Taller Chris Perry was my comparison. Not a 4.4 guy, but a guy with enough speed, great balance and vision, can make all the cuts, and absolutely loves contact. Trying to think of other NFL comps...maybe a James Conner? Matt Forte was a 6'2 guy, but Forte had a little more shake to his game, he was more of a receiver playing RB and I don't think he played at 220 or over.

Charbonnet is not Ty Isaac in that he's a guy that is not really looking to avoid contact. If you want to take him head on he's happy to play that game. Ty was never physical enough to be a feature college RB.

And how the hell does he remind you of Ty Isaac??? Give the kid a break. Isaac had mad measurables but it, far too much, ended there. This kid is a helluva football player...that's FOOTBALL!!! Zach can indeed run around and away from you but he would just as soon knock you on your ass. It has been too long since Michigan had a back like this.

Hey, good luck to him. If we had all the best players, we would be Alabama. There's no fun in that. It's more fun when you have a chance of losing.

I tell you what, the hand-wringers come flying out of the wood work at the drop of a hat. Charbonnet, Evans, Turner and Samuels...for starters, will form a great base for the RB room...and Gray may yet see the light. I expect the O-line to continue to ascend...along with every other position group on the offense. Otherwise, this "sky is falling" narrative is just plain silly.

That's too bad. I'd love to have him. Two great RBs in one class would be awesome; it can also be hard to pull off. It's not like Harbaugh won't be chasing great RBs next class, too. But it's obviously over.

That's what happens when you're in on elite players. I hope Michigan keeps finishing this class strong.
